So Wynne keeps dying on hard and it seems like she can't do anything. I intend for her to be support, but she doesn't much of that either. I didn't give her any AOE spells because I fear of them being the death of me. Can you give me some tactical advice. Here is my Wynne
Wynne Lvl 12
STR 14
DEX 14
MAG 35
WIL 27
CUN 15
CON 11
Arcane Bolt
Arcane Shield
Group Heal
Revival
Flame Blast
Flame Weapons
Rock Armor
StoneFist
Heal
Rejuvenate
Regeneration
Heroic Offense
Heroic Defense
Heroic Aura
Haste
Spell Wisp
Vessel of the Spirit

Tactics:
Self Health <50% Heal
Ally Health <25% Heal
Self Any Activate Spell Wisp
Self Any Activate Arcane Shield
Self surrounded by 3 enemies Rock Armor
Self Any Activate Haste
Self Any Activate Flaming Weapons
Self Surrounded by no enemies Deactivate Rock Armor
And I have one free tactic slot open

Just a rough guess, it's the sustainables and having Any attached to them. It's probably using up a lot of her mana and not having her heal as much. i'd limit the circumstances you use the sustainables.

Also, make sure you have set to the Support or Ranged tactic formation.

I would also change the self <50% health to using a poultice. That's at the top and guarantees a waste of mana, as it will be given top priority.

If it were me, I'd change the heal ally to 50% and add a line right below: "If Ally < 50% then group heal."

That will helps when everyone is getting hammered.

As for offense, are AOE spells necessary

I like Wynne to have earthquake. She starts with at least one spell in that line and it's a nice way to slow the enemy down.

Like 'Mousestalker' mentioned, you should really consider not using any Heal spell on Wynne, or any mages for that matter. Even 'lesser health poultices' give quite a large amount of healing for high 'spellpower' characters; saving up the Healing spells for the rogues and warriors can be a good idea in that sense.

If Wynne keeps on dying, it means she's drawing more hate than usual. Try using a dedicated tank if you want to keep things tidy. If you are already using one, then try clearing threat by using Mind Blast whenever she's surrounded. You can also try investing in the Glyph line and use Glyph of Repulsion on herself.

Make use of Regeneration; set a tactic that looks something like 'health<x% - regeneration'. In the majority of cases, Arcane Shield is not much useful for a typical mage that doesn't have a decent base defense rating; my advice would be to refrain from using it. Regarding the sustained abilities, it might be a good idea to activate them after spending some of her mana; eg. something like 'mana<100% - activate: Spell Wisp' and 'mana<75% - activate: Elemental Weapons', whatever seems reasonable to you. Being this frugal is not necessary though, if you are investing a hefty sum of money in lyrium, and/or have forced Wynne into Blood Magic. Offensive AoE spells are not necessary if you don't want to use them.

Also, complete Wynne's personal quest and augment her Vessel of the Spirit - a good spell that one.

I may need more coffee (not alert yet).. but do you have her set on "ranged" and cautious? So she runs away instead of getting in the middle of things? Have an accessory (belt or ring etc..) to reduce hostility towards her? Sometimes I'll take control of her in battles and set her not to move... stay back out of the way...

Wouldn't be half bad to go for Petrify either, if someone chases her she can just pretrify and shatter them with Stonefist. Solid tactic. Plus Petrify work on big creatures from time to time, like dragons etc. Also mindblast, crushing prison, paralyze, mass paralyze, if you've the points. All these add massive cc aspect to your healer. You can buy extra books for your mages at camp from Bodahn and at the Circle Tower from the vendor in the first room. Tome of Arcane something.

As others are mentioning, set up health poultice at 50% health. Let her heal allies on 50% instead, just trust me on that. Also set ranged on tactics. Not sure what else there is.

Thanks for the help guys. I did what you said and she actually kept us alive for once. I was amazed because I was at that part where you had to fight all of those skeletons at that Dalish Elf quest

^^I try to send a rogue in stealth and disable all the fire traps they can before getting caught :D You can also drink fire potions before entering that room. Yes, my party has died there before...

Not there, the room before that there's two stairways. You get attacked by some skeletons and after you kill them, a bunch just spawn everywhere
