If you want a good pair of headphones, you definitely should try Philips' X2/27 Fidelio. 
 
It's probably one of the best headphones that you can buy for $300 USD. They sound pretty amazing even if you don't have an amp to drive them.

As a way of life? Depends. One can get paid well enough as a new grad professional ass wiper. But, it totally sucks buying your own stuff for your job, only to get it stolen or get splashback from a soiled bedpan.

I wanted to test this first before posting it up.

My local game store got Adapters in stock today (Which I didn't even know about. Lucky me), so I grabbed one and a new Gamecube controller to go with it.

It all works. So I can now play Smash 4 like the cool kids.
