I am wondering what, if anything, does that silvery sphere thing do? I have forgotten where you get it, but all it does when I click on it back on the Normandy, is it pulses for a sec and then shrinks back to its original size. Does it serve any purpose?

It is a cabin decoration. It does not serve any other purpose.

I was kind of disappointed that we didn't get to learn more about those silver spheres from the trilogy.
I've been fascinated with them ever since I first saw one on Eletania.

You get it during the firewalker dlc. It has no purpose. If Shepard does activate it in the cabin, it will make a noise
