It's been very nice to see a relatively varied assortment of armours, especially after the limited number present in DAO. I especially enjoy being able to adventure in a selection of longcoats, robes and various other light armour - even as a warrior rather than the bland selection of bulky plate that most similar games offer. Huge improvement over previous games, adds a lot to immersion.

@OP:

I agree that armor design is really good this time. IMO, exactly the right balance between functionality and pleasant appearance. For the first time in a DA game, I find it generally pleasant to look at my characters in their outfits.

However, while within one class, the variety is great, the overall variety is less than you might think. It's basically the same standard types for every class, only with more or less metal added depending on class. I don't really mind, but it becomes very noticeable after a few playthroughs.

Edit:

As for robes, the "Orlesian Army" and "Free Army" light armors are basically that.

I meant some of the "Army" outfits as per Ieldra's post and also the craftable, non-armour, non-longcoat outfit variant with the flap. Not exactly majestic archmage robes, but at least independently animated unlike the scant robe alternatives available in DAO.

The total 3 armor designs this game has to offer were horrid.

I do like that each class has access to all three of the base armors. Warriors wearing longcoats and not restricted to a metal armor look only, mages wearing something that looks like it actually gives some protection instead of just cloth. It's refreshing.

What about the non-existence of unique armor for Qunari?

I wish I could say the same for the Jammi-ahem-Skyhold outfit...

But I do like the armor models, though I was looking forward for a long flowy robe for my mage.

I respectfully disagree. I have no problem with the coats, but when almost every armor is a coat... <_< You understand what I'm saying ? This is why I disagree with the fact that we have varied armors. We don't have good variety.. because a lot of armors are variations of a single model. No difference between enchanter and apprentice robes or coats..

I like the armour, I like the coat....But I'd like some variation too. Elves, humans and Dwarf at least have (few, rare, and many times very hard to obtain schematics) some unique models. But I'd like something for yhe Qunari too, and some uniqueness for the various classes. Almost all the armours are just exactly the same for every class/race.

Having some unique models here and there would be great. After three runs, I felt like my characters always have the seme stuff on (and let's not speak of those horrors we have to wear in Skyhold. I'm renning around with my last Quizzy because I dead to have to her in all the Skyhold cinematics in that bland tight thing.)

I got armours to begin with. Later everything I crafted ended up being jackets and whatever else.

The armor in this game was gorgeous. Sure wish I could wear it at Skyhold!  :D
