Hello y'all!

Another new thread for a specific topic: as you know, I recently finished a greyscale pencil drawing and I want to do a colour version. I've been looking for ways to transfer the pencil drawing to the watercolour paper and found mainly two: using a grid or using transfer paper.

Which one do you think is best? Do you know any other techniques to do this? I'm only transferring the main lines, the details I can do straight on the paper. But I want it to be as clean as possible, so the pencil doesn't stain the watercolours.

Thank you!  :wizard:

I would probably use a light box, but not everyone has access to one. The idea is to have light shining through your sketch from below, and then you can trace it on a new piece of paper. You could tape your sketch against the window as well, or bring it up on your monitor, and then tape your new sheet of paper onto it. The thing is, I am not sure how well this would work with watercolour paper - it's quite thick.

This video might also help. It's a little slow, but you can get an idea of what to do:

My niece has one of those things they sell for children that projects a drawing onto the paper, unfortunately she lives far away :D

I'll try the window thing and if the paper is too thick (which I think will be the case), I will try the video method. Thank you Tesh, I'll let you all know the results!

Sooo today is a bright, sunny day, and I tried the window method. It worked perfectly! Turns out my watercolour paper is not so thick as I thought, so I could see the lines very clearly. I took a pic of how it looked.

Spoiler

I also followed the advice on the video, and rubbed the adhesive tape against my pants (well, it's actually washi tape because I couldn't find the other one :D) When removing it, it didn't damage the paper at all.

So thank you again, Tesh! Here is my girl, ready for her colour treatment (sorry for the crappy image quality)
