Inquisition isn't the only power but it is a NEW power that has risen rapidly and seemingly out of nowhere.

There are other important people than the Inquisitior and other influential organizations, but Inquisition is a new powerful player catapulted straight into the midst of Thedas great politics... and the Powers still don't know anything about it. It's only natural that their spy network goes crazy and starts concentrating their efforts on Inquisition, perhaps even giving it a tad more credit than it deserves ;)

Hm, I just wanted to mention that there are two other references to the Executors in DAI. The Hard in Hightown novel (read the codex entries) and the war table operations about the hack writer for Hard in Hightown. So Varric should actually have some knowledge about this group, even if he thinks they are a myth, because how else could he have written that in his novel. I get it that the group are supposed to be super-mysterious, but it would have been fun to have Varric comment about this.. sadly he doesn't have any dialogue about that whatsoever.

So the Executors are tied to the Hard in Hightown quest. Interesting....

They do sound intriguing, but let's hope Bioware doesn't turn them into the DA version of Cerberus.

Taking a brief look at the Hard in Hightown stuff itself, I didn't catch any Executor references. What did I miss? :(

I did catch Worthy denying sending the note to Skyhold that talked about, "YOU ENCROACH UPON THE DOMAIN OF HIGHER POWERS. YOU WILL ANSWER TO US." With a seal of six crossed swords. Which is rather interesting. :D

Very nice catch, Tib. :D

EDIT: Aha! The ominous letter sent to the magistrate had six crossed swords as its seal. Does this mean that Varric is holding out on us again, or does it mean that the Executors read his books? Are they the power behind Bhelenforth, since Worthy doesn't seem like he'd have the influence to set up that many backers? Why on earth would they back a sham writer?  What is going on here?!

EDIT EDIT: http://dragonage.wik...:_Chapter_Eight

http://dragonage.wik...m/wiki/Madrigal

The Merril Analogue lists them as the legendary group that killed Queen Madrigal of Antiva, who was found dead after a hunting excursion with four swords piercing her. (What happened to the other two swords? :P ) Thus, the Steel Age. But I always thought that was the move that propelled the Crows into fame and fortune, as they refused to name her killers under torture? Or did they honestly have nothing to do with it, and the Executors Across the Sea just didn't care to take credit? Then the Crows get the juicy assassination contracts off of that stolen reputation?

I can't even.

You get the note delivered to Skyhold as part of Varric's Hard in Hightown War Table chain.

The actual interaction with the Executors starts with the Investigate the Strange Chalk Markings War Table quest. Most of the details come from the follow-up mission. It's near where the Upgrade for Bianca quest is, in the northern part of the map. :)

The ancient elves lived all over the place in the past, right?  I mean, their empire was so far flung they used magic mirrors to travels between it and it apparently included places located in the Fade or other metaplanes.  Maybe there was an elven civilization across the sea.  It wouldn't have necessarily been crushed or destroyed after the fall of Arlathan, since there Tevinters knew nothing about it, and maybe they had someone stand up and take control after the gods were locked away.

And why might they be relevant to the ongoing plot rather than an outlandish addition?  Maybe they still remember those ancient events, and thus might be a way for us to find out about them.

It just occurred to me as well, that they might be the people Solas refers to as "my people."  So Solas wakes up somewhere in Thedas, and things are still rough.  He needs to get back to his people across the sea, possibly through the eluvians, but his orb is out of juice.  He hands it to Corypheus, and DAI ensues.  Now, with this orb broken, the only way he can activate an eluvian is with the only other source of power still available: Mythal's.  You heard it here first, folks, DA4 features an invasion from those across the sea, riding in the name of the Dread Wolf, their living god.

Or, you know, not.

We know Solas isn't a germane member of the pantheon, he might have been a forgotten one... Or perhaps he is "... Something else altogether..."

Leliana's report left me wondering something.

"...she kisses an Andrastian locket and says, “Glory to those across the seas.” She dies. The locket was poison."

Doesn't that mean the woman was Andrastian, a follower of the Chantry. Doesn't this also mean that either the ones across the seas are also Andrastians or they just allow their - at least agents - to freely practise any religion. Of course, maybe she was just wearing the locked as a smokescreen.

It could be this, but there's alternative explanation:

Thedas is Andrastian, if captured by someone, the agent has good chance of retaining possession of the locket AND an act of kissing it wouldn't seem too suspicious. So the choice might be utilitarian rather than religious.

Yes, that is what I meant with the smokescreen. Having an original Executors item would definitely give the researchers in Skyhold a field day.  :)

The only thing I know is that those sources show the writers clearly wanted to establish a framework around the Executors. So it got me quite excited and wondering whether we will hear more of them! But is it something we can see in DLC... honestly no clue.

At the very least we do deserve to read the ending of Hard in Hightown novel tho, so I'm hoping for at least a couple of codex entries or a war table mission which would reveal more. :)

Also, the new volume of WoT was supposed to reveal more of what lies "beyond Thedas". Now I don't know where exactly the "across the sea" would be haha, but who knows. Damn, this just makes me more curious.

I'm betting they're to the east, since the Antivan merchants are the ones they're warning.

And the Qunari came from north of Par Vollen, though they might have come east and just arrived at that point. *shrug*

Humans came from either Par Vollen or north of Par Vollen, it's not clear. And the proto-Rivaini immigrated from the jungle islands above the Donarks.

And there's the unknown land connected to Thedas in the West.

I want them to explain all of those areas and provide me with more pretty maps to drool over.
