I think anything they give the option to buy should be fairly obtainable in-game without spending money. I would prefer just to have regular content updates, and plenty of content I wouldnt have to pay for, but It couldnt hurt if Bioware included some new packs with higher quality loot, and others with a higher chance of gaining armour, giving us an incentive to spend platinum when new DLC becomes available.
It was the same with MEMP, while the loot system was arguably better, the loot chests still only became worth spending cash on when the spectre and character packs became available IMO. This was when there was a lot of content to unlock too, with so many unlockable characters and varied different weapons to aim for you were much likelier to get satisfying item drops from your chests.
I am quite happy to spend a little to voluntarily support a game that feeds me new content regularly, despite my best intention never to spend money on a free game, I spent a bunch of money on one particular game at christmas (everyone got me PSN points for christmas, and I had nothing better to spend them on) and I havent regretted it at all because of the sheer volume of content I regularly get for free. I could have spent that money on DAIMP..but would have had a tiny fraction of the content I received and stood a good chance of getting very little from chests. Had there been new DLC for christmas and some "Inquisitor packs" or something Bioware could have had a fair bit of spare cash spent on them instead.
Normally I do not spend money on microtransactions, but with the way psn store works, you quite often have spare points left over from buying games or DLC, its that spare cash I would consider occasionally buying chests with if they made chests worthwhile.
