Oh Jeremy! What have you done?

You turned a show about cars and stats into an extravaganza.

Lots of silly shenanigans and daft incidents ensued.

But along comes the many dumb remarks. You know I love Jeremy Clarkson so much I overlooked the many times he used racial slurs, made fun of the disabled and made homophobic remarks. I was like, "yeah but it's Jeremy Clarkson. He's an exception because he's exceptional".

Should you excuse people for this kind of behaviour? Never.

However this is Top Gear. I was thinking someone at the BBC is going to put the man in his place.

Well that finally happened. Apparently he threw a punch. I was surprised. To me he is the guy who makes unacceptable un-PC remarks, not the guy who throws violent temper tantrums.

Well I guess its over.

Your greatest achievement is the success of Top Gear. I know that lots of other people had a part to play (James May, Richard Hammond, the many guests, the lighting and sound guys, the directors, producers, studio audience, fans, editors etc) but Jeremy Clarkson was the face of the show. His natural charisma and arrogance was delightfully entraining. Of the three grown men treating cars like toys, Jeremy was by far the silliest and most entraining.

Jeremy Clarkson had to take his biggest achievement and take a dump all over it. [Sigh]. All good things come to an end. It was after all inevitable. Not surprised, just disappointed. I'm not blaming the BBC. Even if Jeremy Clarkson didn't throw that punch, this situation is still his fault.

He turned into an old fart geezer and ruined it all!

I agree. Long overdue indeed.

I don't particularly find racist and derogatory comments amusing, but I could just be a bit too dull... *shrug*

I've time for Hammond and May as they seem like they are alright, but Clarkson clearly has some issues he needs to address. In the public eye you have a responsibility to keep a check on yourself and what you do.

But then, some people just enjoy upsetting other people.

He is flat out careless. He has this attitude where he can say whatever he likes and no one can challenge him.

He runs his mouth on autopilot to the extent that he can say the "n" word in an "eeeneee mi nee moe" moment without realising it.

On top of that he doesn't seem to care much for hurting other peoples feelings.

I guarantee that if one of us were to post something racist/sexist even on the Bioware Forums under a different name, we'd lose our jobs and become unemployable.

It bugged me that he could get away with this. Make even one dumb remark and bye bye career.

Jeremy Clarkson was not immune to this fate, but he had one heck of a resistance when it came to consequences.

I'd like to see the show without Clarkson. I know he's the one guy who was there from episode one.

It would be like having a series of 24 without Jack Bauer. [It happened in India].

Top Gear has become "The Jeremy Clarkson Show". I'd be interested to see if the show can continue it's momentum without him.

Perhaps the show will stall then breakdown. His antics have become a hazard to the show, and now one must place a warning triangle around the show telling the viewers not to go there. Doesn't it drive you up the wall?

I guess without him, the show would be stuck in second gear. Getting the show running again would be a very tricky up hill start. If the show gets rebooted, a new director might decide to perform a u-turn.

Sorry. I wanted to make a flurry of bad puns. :P

Anyone have any more driving puns?

Yeah, he's really not that nice.

I think it's probably a case of a star becoming a little too c*ocky as their popularity increases (Like Bieber or Kanye) and then thinking they can just do or say whatever they please without consequence. And, for a while, that was true. I'm glad the BBC have finally dealt with it though.

It's all very well having opinions that you share privately, but you just have to accept that in life you have to curb yourself at times when you're around others. Particularly if you're a celebrity.

Doesn't everybody want to punch Piers Morgan though? Should have been knighted for that.

Piers Morgan needs to be punched. I was glad that CNN got rid of him.

Jeremy Clarkson on the other hand, doesn't have to worry about anything. Even if BBC doesn't want to deal with his antics, other TVs will be more than happy to have him over and make his own show.

To those who say that Jeremy Clarkson's remarks are okay if they're in the spirit of comedy.

Well. You know I don't have any counter. I watch comedians such as Frankie Boyle and I get offended, but with Frankie Boyle I want to be offended. I want that feeling of "I can't believe you just said that  ". There is an art into turning unpleasantness into entrainment. The entire horror genre takes a very uncomfortable emotion and makes it fun. Shock humour comedians make offensiveness fun.

With Jeremy Clarkson I don't get that feeling of shock laughter. I get the feeling of disappointment. He is like that good friend of yours who you keep around because he's entertaining, but you end up face palming every time he says something insulting. I find myself making excuses for him like "oh he's fine. He's just a little eccentric, that's all." Or "He doesn't mean it. He just lacks voice box control."

I really like Clarkson especially on top gear but I have to agree he can only blame himself for the situation he's gotten into and has to face the music, its very unfortunate but it was going to happen at some point.

He's an awesome guy.

Regarding whether or not the man is a "bigot". I think there are many different kinds of "bigots". It may sound like a harsh word but it is actually very nuanced.

You can be the hostile intolerant kind, the dumb ignorant kind, the careless kind, the unaware kind etc.

I'd say he's the kind with a dated view on what is and isn't acceptable to say. Furthermore he doesn't seem to care much. His brand of racism/sexism/discrimination against disabled etc doesn't prevent him from befriending people in these demographics. He is very friendly and welcoming, but at the same time insists on making jokes. If you know anything about his brand of humour then you can see how that can be off putting.

I find Clarkson to be a buffoon, but he's (usually) an entertaining buffoon. I think the BBC haven't been entirely sensible to keep him constantly under a microscope: even if he isn't sacked/indefinitely suspended/whatevs, I suspect he'll walk to another channel that's more accommodating.

That's not to say I excuse every transgression, but I doubt he's alone in that, and there are certainly nastier people in the media, but not being so buffoon-ish, they manage to keep a lower profile.
