So I have 16.3g of Sulfur, how many atoms?

Answer is 16.3 x 1mol/32.07g x 6.022x10^23/1 mol = 3.06x10^23 atoms.

My question is, I have been given two formulas and it isn't expanded on much:

6.022x10^23/1 mol

1 mol/6.022x10^23

What is the difference between the two? The example just says to use the first formula. Is it because I have 16.3g of S? If I had 16.3 mol of S, would I use the second formula to convert to amu?

So 16.3 mol x 1 mol/32.07 x 1/6.022x10^23?

LMAO...chemistry.

There isn't a difference. Both are the same way to write 1.

But if I use the second formula, I get 8.44.

And Chemistry is fun.

Try using both @ http://www.wolframalpha.com. Then compare the solutions.

You utilize the first expression because it divides two identical SI units.

mol/mol = 1

It's been a while, but I think molar mass is also involved.

I'm glad I could be helpful in absolutely no way at all.

Today I added Blueberry flavoring to my Dr. Pepper at Noodle Bowl.

P.S. It was delicious!

You should give us the actual question: what is it asking for?

Isn't it obvious? If Naughty Bear has 16.3 grams of sulfur, how many atoms does it take to make simfanSP into a zebra?

OWA's thighs.

As a catalyst that is...

Don't know about the atoms

Kind of a lot I guess

It's like Jeopardy - he gives the question, it's up to us to respond in the form of a question.

I took 2 years of chemistry and organic chemistry in college. Might as well not have taken it because I don't remember anything.

UGH. THE WORST KIND.

OCHEM and its nasty cousin Cellular and Molecular Biology are what broke me on staying a Biology major.

I'm laughing but it's bewilderment.

Oh, that's truly sad. OChem>All (and Cell Bio is fascinating).

Biology is based in chemistry

Spoiler

Believe me I understand that (except for the hydrogen part, I think you mean the universe there), but what chemistry are you actually doing?

A disheartening portion of the Gen Bio at my school was rote memorization and had very little to do with chemistry.
