Video was taken on PC, Patch 5, Nightmare.

Anyone know what is causing all the IMMUNE messages and why Sera is gaining guard during the Thousand Cuts attack on the Fereldan Frostback?

Notice that the first message is SUNDERED, then all the rest are IMMUNE.

Loadout and specs for Sera are below the video.

Weapon: Balanced Sniper Bow, 80 base damage, +21% Critical Chance, no rune.

Armor: Crafted Tier 2 Hunter's Coat, 134 AR, +26% Fire Resistance, +12% Heal Bonus, +100 Maximum Health, On Hit: Gain 3 Guard; Sturdy Adventurer Hat, 14 AR, +23 Max Health.

Accessories: +5% Cooldown Modifier amulet, Enhanced Belt of Magic Defense +5%, RH: Ring of Critical Chance, +2%, LH: Ring of Critical Damage, +5%.

Skill spec, Level 9

Archery: First Blood, Death From Above, Leaping Shot

Tempest: Flask of Fire + Unquenchable Flames, Fury of the Storm, TC, Killer's Alchemy, Lightning Flask + Quicksilver

Fire resistance status effect is on from taking a tonic before this clip started.

I don't think any damage had been done to the dragon yet, so First Blood would apply, though I don't see why that should matter.

The guard increase probably  has to do with the masterwork slot on her armor, but I thought that only applied to taking melee hits, not giving them?

Well, the +3 Guard on hit ability certainly explains where all the guard is coming from (it is called 1000 Cuts, after all.) I have no idea about the immunity or any of that.

Possibly thousand cuts attempts to do one attack with the mainhand and one with the offhand for each strike, so when a bow is equipped attacks that would have been the offhand attack instead return as immune.

It could be, but then why does the initial Sunder get applied? I know bleed effects got changed to Sunder with the latest patch, but none of Sera's gear has bleed and the only rogue skill I can think of that has anything to do with Sunder is Cheap Shot, which this Sera doesn't have.

PapaCharlie9, does the Sunder effect appear with daggers as well or only bows?

I also thought the lack of an offhand weapon is what makes the IMMUNE messages, but I tried the same setup with Sera equipped with two plain daggers and got exactly the same SUNDERED, then IMMUNE messages.

Another theory I had was that the messages were about what was happening TO Sera, but that would mean that the Fereldan Frostback had a hidden status effect of Sunder on Hit. The status bar doesn't show the Sundered icon for Sera, but that might be hidden as well? I dunno, sounds like conspiracy theories.

EDIT: Hmmm, the Dragon Bone material generates 2% sunder on hit in the Offense slot for armor. Maybe my conspiracy theory isn't so crazy after all. High dragons definitely have armor, so maybe they get the same benefits of their own materials? They certainly have fire resistance, which would be consistent. Maybe the devs just forgot to mention this detail?

Maybe Thousand Cuts is designed to Sunder per hit, but since enemies can only be Sundered once, subsequent attempts to apply Sunder come up as a Immune? Check the dragon's status after you do this and see if the Sunder effect is actually applied.

Does Your Inquisitor have anything that gives Sunder? Mine does (a mage as well) and, it procs a lot, it's on his armor and, almost every fight, the first basic attack from him sunders, thus counting as damage, which would explain first blood not working.

If not, do either of them have anything TINTED with anything that gives Sunder? Shouldn't matter but, if it's doing that then, the devs need to know. (Just trying to figure this one out.)

The TC skill description might imply it has a bleed effect attached to it. Since bleeds make the armor sunder, that would explain why the first hit sunders and then the dragon becomes immune to it for the rest of the hits.

Good call. Looks like it is TC doing it. This is immediately after the animation ended:

I also replaced Sera's armor with plain armor, no Gain Guard masterwork. Sure enough, she didn't get any guard during TC. She also didn't lose any health! So it is like she's getting hit for 0 damage.

Mysteries solved, but interesting results:

* TC procs Sunder for the first hit on the target.

* TC procs Gain Guard on the attacker's armor.

At least versus the Fereldan Frostback. Not sure if this is true for other enemies after Patch 5.
