I did a scrub test yesterday and it came back positive. I failed to solo platinum :( Tried various maps/enemies/character kits/weapons and all efforts proved futile. On some kits I did manage to clutch till wave 7 but couldn't survive till end not even with a Scrubbernaut with Cyclonic IV and Reegar+Inc. Haven't tried Reegar with PPR on it though. I even modified coeducation.bin or whatever that thingamanjingy is called to give me 21 more power points to invest in lol fitness  but after failing and wasting many space credits spent on purchasing cyclonics/amps and various consumables I reverted back to vanilla.

I plan to begin lifting Soon™ need a few more UR drops till remaining weapons are at X and assistance from mentor or many would be appreciated. Doesn't matter if mentor is Jedi or Sith. I don't care much about Dark or Light side only my side ;)

I want to git gud so that I can solo. Is there somebody that can help me train in the art of solo coz knowing my luck this is what I would run into most of the time while pugging

I am serious and would require some tips/advice etc on improving my solo performance (no pun intended)

I can offer some generic advice when it comes to solos. You might be tempted to try and solo as quickly as possible, but you best bet is to take it slow. For my first solo it took 90 minutes and my hands feel a tad sore afterwards, but it was totally worth it.

My advice and this is more personnel preference is to pick a kit you enjoy and try to get Plat done. I never wanted the TGI, GI or Trooper solo, I wanted to get one done but not with an easy mode character. Don't stress so much over success but just playing each wave clean as you can, learn which enemies in each wave are A)easiest for you to kill with the kit you've choosen & B)account for the biggest point hits to the wave budget allowance. Just have fun with it though do not make it a task that you don't enjoy.

YEah, failing is quite a pain at start, so, i agree U (OP) should try not to care about it (easier said than done)

At first solo may be tedious, but when you get good at it, it becomes fun (gold, at least, I fail to imagine anyone that would think a platinum solo is fun).

(all I am about to say is my personal preference)

1. Cyclonics are overrated

On Platinum, once you start taking damage you go down no matter how much shields you have. Adrenaline mod is far more useful. Especially on infiltrators.

2. (For clip) don't be medic all the time. Revived teammates are incredibly vulnerable, and make you even more vulnerable (you had Goddess on your side there)

3. Juggy is not easiest kit for solo. When you have team to help you out, he is good. But limited mobility is a bit more tricky when soloing - you can still get staggered. Also, if Juggy goes down be ready to use rocket with a medigel.

4. Do as all of us did: TGI+Harrier+Scorpion vs. Reapers on Giant

5. Most important thing when soloing is movement. Do not move to fast, do not move to slow, give opponents time to catch up with you.

6. Do not go vs Geth

7. Nuke Prime waves

I wish I could like this more than once.

After saying that Plat solos were stupid and pointless for a long time, I got the urge as many do.

It ruined this game for me, I stopped playing regularly and even now I refuse to play Platinum any more.

I've solo'd gold a couple of times but waves 8 and 9 seem to go on forever - if I'm getting to the point where I'm thinking "when the hell does the spawn budget run out?!" it doesn't qualify as a fun game for me.

I'd rather have a couple of randoms along even if they're acting as little more than meatshields... or better yet, Edorian and Smehur and one utterly bewildered random who had the misfortune to drop into a lobby with three Krogan too busy gleefully headbutting each other to realise that it's an objective wave (or some other such complete silliness) :)

I hate soloing. I play multiplayer games to play with other people. Getting the gold solo was the worst experience of my life. Whoever thought of it was a terrible person.

Give the solo attempts a break and play regular platinum games for a while to learn the wave composition etc.

It's what I did, in my first ever attempt I made it to wave 8 (got Phantom synced) and then I said **** this **** .

Then a few months later I did my second attempt and managed with no big problems.

Tried with a new kit again a few weeks ago and got to wave 8 again (yeah you guessed it, Phantom synced again). Will probably try it again at some point.

So my advice, play regular plat games against the faction and map you plan to do the solo on for a while and then try again later on (don't keep forcing yourself do do it as I then guess you will give up).

Soloing with Juggy is actually harder than many people think, even with the reegar. TGI or geth trooper are easier choices. You never mentioned which faction you were going up against - that might have an impact on weapon choices too e.g. if facing cerb, venom would make it much easier by cheesing phantom and dragoon points.

Thanks a lot for replies everyone. Much appreciated.

On Infiltrators (BWX) and kits using Assault Rifles except Juggernaut Phantoms on plat proves to be a pain. They begin cart wheeling like crazy ignoring most of the bullets fired at them. Lobby was preset to cerberus so thay begin to annoy since wave 1. Juggy can deal with them but gets surrounded later on. Reapers are a bit manageable till mid game. Geth are a pain and I hate Scions when soloing.

2nd problem is I get a bit impatient and try to do it fast. Can any body post the average time it should take for certain waves? I do play team/pug gold and plat games often. And can extract most of the times if pugs have an idea of what to do. With all friends in team we can rekt @#$% up on plat and complete them in around 20 mins without focusing on speed runs. Haven't participated in speed run yet but I am guessing it has to do something with small maps like glacier and deliberate use of rockets on certain waves to deplete wave budget quickly.

I am most comfortable using a Salarian Infiltrator with BW X. Juggernaut with PPR X can also be managed a bit. I like Typhoon on TGI too and Crusader on AIU. Fury is also a kit I like. So is Paladin Sentinel along with QFE to some extent. But I am not comfortable bringing the last in a PUG plat game.

Juggy with reegar or venom is what I did my gold solo with to complete that solo challenge. I don't like weapons with charge up shots that much e.g Acolyte or GPS etc.

First, don't worry about time. Most people's first platinum solo times are well over an hour. Trying to rush it will just get you killed.

If you are having a particular problem with phantoms, then be sure to take a projectile weapon (Adas, acolyte, venom, graal etc) as the phantoms' damage reduction when they dodge does not work against these types of weapons. The acolyte makes a decent secondary on most kits. Picking a kit with a good phantom killing power can also help (especially ballistic blades) but you're best off sticking with kits you're comfortable with.

It's worth knowing that if you fight collectors, phantoms only appear in wave 9.

I wouldn't attempt it with the Juggernaut, sure you're synch immune, but you're a slow big visible target with no quick means of escape when swarmed.

If it's just soloing for that sake alone and you're not bothered about how then go with the very forgiving TGI. Stim packs are a marvelous snack of instant shields, TC means you can relocate when the inevitable ship hits the fan and with a Harrier and Acolyte you can fight all enemies comfortably.

It'll be slow, but probably the easiest class to get the solo with.

Lol first, I'm sure most of mine were over an hour. I think only mine with the Merc and the DAI went for around 40 minutes. I suck at rocketing spawns on solos, I generally sit on my rockets till ten in case of targets.

I think I had a monstrosity with the Phoenix with Adas that was 89 mins before I failed on wave nine.

On topic: TGI Carrier (you may consider taking ULM Acolyte for Phantoms), Geth Scanner, grenade maps (hazard Reactor/Giant), easiest Plat solo done.

Tips:

- pick a map that allows a lot of kiting space (Giant, Reactor, Ghost, stuff like that) and then play the map accordingly

- Use Geth Scanner/Armored Compartments/Grenade Capacity - Geth Scanner is probably the best to spot flanks that you otherwise wouldn't

- Abuse RHA (right hand advantage)

- try selecting a faction that spawns the least amount of Banshees on Platinum - they're hella tedious to deal with and make you waste a metric fuckton of time, while also having the potential to wallbang instakill you and end your the effort on the spot. Related to faction picking - study wave compositions so you know what to expect each wave - humans are naturally afraid of what they don't know and fear has negative impact on your gameplay

- play Cerberus only if you feel really confident against them. Phantoms and Dragoons will leave you no room for error

I'll add replies later if I can think of anything else.
