I've been worried this news was coming in the last few years. I adore the Discworld series to pieces. I was actually planning on hunkering down and going back to re-read all of the currently released stuff too. Suppose now's as good a time as any to dig into his legacy again.
RIP. Loved his books. Discworld will be emptier place now.
I was rewatching the first movie when I found, he was the only author I have all the books of (thank ehavens for library books sales)
RIP Sir Terry.
I've said it elsewhere, but the world's a little less funny today than it was before. One of the true giants, and someone who never failed to make me smile. RIP Sir Terry.
This is just so depressing. Such an influential part of so many lives. He will be missed a great deal
Well he never feared Death.as sad as i am to see him gone i cant realy feel sad he faught tooth and nail for his right to die.
NON TIMETIS MESSOR. Terry oh and OOK.
... f*ck.
I hadn't heard about that yet, and it really wrenched my guts. I don't know what's worse, him being gone or the fact that it's likely better this way. ![]()
RIP, Pterry, and thanks for allowing us to roam the worlds of your wonderful imagination. I hope the Death that came for you was the one you created, because he is awesome. Gonna re-read Reaper Man your honor and his.
best to celebrate his life than morn his passing.
And there comes the teariness. Thanks tanuki, and I'm not being sarcastic. It's a lovely picture.
man i loved that eulogy.
isware that there has never been a hollywood movie of one of his books is either criminal or a blessing.
His death was announced on his Twitter account by his daughter in her father's own writing style.
The first post said: "AT LAST, SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER."
In his books Death's words always appear in capitals.
The next tweet said: "Terry took Death’s arm and followed him through the doors and on to the black desert under the endless night."
And the last simply said: "The End."
A few years ago the last WW1 soldier died. Even WW2 soldiers are very old right now and most of them have died.
We should expect so much death for the young people of 1950s and 1960s soon. Oh even Elvis could have lived till now if he wouldn't have died of illness.
His final tweets made me tear up so much, I had acually started crying in my art class. I later showed the news to my friend, which made her for the first time Ive known, at a loss for words. Also, the man had a sword made out of a meteorite, how can you not respect that
best to celebrate his life than morn his passing.
"...We mourn for them that has tae stay behind."
A truly brilliant man. RIP, Terry Pratchett. You will be forever missed...
I think it's important to note that Terry Pratchett once said:
The ideal death, I think, is what was the ideal Victorian death, you know, with your grandchildren around you, a bit of sobbing. And you say goodbye to your loved ones, making certain that one of them has been left behind to look after the shop.
and he died in his home surrounded by his family, knowing that his daughter would be the "custodian" of discworld, and "with his cat sleeping on his bed".
I think that the manner of our death is perhaps more important than what time it arrives, and it seems to me that he left exactly like he wanted to.
RIP, Sir Pratchett. You gave a lot to the world and you will be missed.
banana daiquiri all around on celebration of a great man
Dude I so wish I could paint like that.
its even better knowing he would laugh his arse off it us for crying ect.
