I started a Youtube channel on January 23 this year and most of it's videos thus far surround my experience in the first installment of the Mass Effect trilogy. I monetize my content and avoid using third party content or any content that isn't already found within the game. However, on my 22nd episode of my Mass Effect series a company called INgrooves Music Group claimed my video for matching third party content titled "The Cipher-Mass Effect (Intro)". Here's a link to my video. This so called third party content is located on 29:56 of the video's timeline. I did not add this in in post-production, it is found within the game on it's own. On top of that, I could not find anything about INgrooves within the game's final credits which would leave me to believe that INgrooves' claim over my video is invalid. I have already contacted INgrooves Music Group informing them of their mistaken claim, so now I am seeking confirmation that their claim is indeed invalid and should be lifted.

If writing a forum post is not the correct or most effective way to reach out to either BioWare or EA, please do point me in the right direction. You can respond to this post or email me at jack.swanson81@yahoo.com.

Thank you for your help,

Jackalol

It is actually YouTube to whom you would have to appeal, and the process can be slow.

YouTube does not verify claims made against videos, it simply accepts them as fact and acts upon them unilaterally. This obviously leaves a lot of room for everyone from random jerks who want to mess you to frivolous music copyright claims to be made by companies. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about it, as YouTube's policy is to err on the side of the complainant.

If your channel wasn't monetized, you would definitely be in the right, legally (which would probably change nothing, sadly.) As a monetized channel, I can only guess that the copyright owners of the music will have their claim upheld. I do not know the legality in that instance, but my understanding is that they have given up those specific claims as part of the licence granted to EA/BioWare for using the music in the video game. That doesn't mean that I'm right, that's just my interpretation of copyright, fair use etc.

In any case, I can all but guarantee that any messages to INGrooves will be ignored, and you will have to take your appeal to YouTube. You may get lucky, I don't know, others of have had mixed results in the past.
