Armor and Weapon Design so far.

Ive been to the Emprise Du Lion Shop and purchased and looked at everything and speaking of looks why cant we see what we are about to purchase if two items are of equal measure but one is just not looking right for you, which one do you purchase? Both.

 

Anyways a lot of the Armor is intricately designed and looks well on the character models although there where some Armors early on that made your entire body puff out. I think it was the Inquisition Foot Soldier armor. It puffed out your trso and forearms like your body conformed to the armor instead of the other way round. DOubt that bug will get fixed as its an earlier armor and average at best anyway.

 

The way one specific armor looks on one character versus the main character, you. The defender and vanguard mails and armors looked a little genericon the inquisitor. Im not looking for something flashy just something that looks cool, simply put. Most of the Armor for the Inquisitor is pretty generic although the Battlemaster Coat / trench coat looks cool I wasn't really into the Dragon Armor. It looks like it was OVER designed. I seems like 5 or 6 different artists with 6 different styles and taste designed all the concepts. Most of the Rogue armor for Cole looks awesome and almost a little modernistic (love the Assassin hat straight from Mortal Kombat. If your gonna rip something off best make it something good and that worked. I had him with a hood instead of the FF9 black mage looking scraggy hat but then thee assassin hat was found) and then most of Varrics styles are the jacket with chest hair plate mail. I don't like it when different armors have diferent names but look exactly the same with subtle changes if any.

 

Weapons

 

It took a very long time as a warrior using sword and shield before I found a cool sword. A basic looking Longsword woud of sufficed,at any time especially if it did killer damage and other effects. Also a sword is a sword. Decorative design needs to be minimum unless its clever or practical or engravings but no little knick nacks here and polly wallys there.Some of the aerly pickups like Mercenary Lord Blade and some others midway like Kirkwall Noble sword and afew others had basic longsword designs. IDK why most of the sword have hilts on them and when you get a schematic or find one is called a grip. Id of liked to customize the pommel AND the hilt. The blade design where nice as they were practical. Some where wider and thers where skinnier and came to a much finer point (thrusting sword) but only the Kirkwall Noble Sword was strong enough to last while the merclord blade would of been nice as a schematic and then  grip as well as some of the others. Some designs looked like early middle ages while others looked even Egyptian or some late middle ages.You don't need 100 different sword if you can creat 10 practical ones and 5 outside the box legendary ones that don't over do it like dragon tooth maw. That's cool for a dwarven character though so it works I guess, I don't like the Hammers and got used to the Mace and the Hand axe or Hatchet (which rogues used to ownWTF stick with the cool stuff BIOware).

 

I was a bit disappointed that your stance and animations never changed with weapon type. I still stood fast holding an axe/hatchet in a thrusting/horizontal grip angle or a mace the same way or a hammer. Any of those would hurt thrusting them into someones face and kill for sure BUT they lack the range for that and its common sense that maces and hammes are bashing weapons an axes are similar but with more blade and cutting power. I think deveopers are wrried about taking tips from other games becuae their fan base might freak out. But there are a lot of games that do oe or two things very well or right on the bullseye and Shadow of Mordor is the only example of a game (and publisher that could use Arkham code and AC code.) But In assassins creat the characters move amazingly realistically and with fluid grace my friends. Fluid Grace. Suddenly the boring Batman Combat system was fun for awhile (thank god for stealth and god evel design, story and mission plus nemesis system as combat got old as it inevitably will in a game with no real skill required but a billion animations.) Speaking of Mordor, the sword he uses is badass and its not flashy at all its very basic design. I could draw up 20 swords that look similar but at the same time distinquished from each other.

 

Id of liked to personalize and upgrade a sweet weapon that a find without having to sell it when I find a purple lollipop sword with an awkward grip that does 160 damage vs the 110 I was doing. That way I keep my favorite weapons and can collect an assorted array of simalr weapons with various effects for different fights (Although I don't like the idea of having 10 swords or a sword for every run nd element like a guard and armor crushing sword, a corrupt sword, a cleansing sword, a something else sword. I like the idea of having two maybe three different swords with varying distinqushed but original and (a basic longsword looks cool any day. Id Play souls wit nothing but two different weapons and they were usually he most accurate realisticly designed like battle axes bearded axes and longswords.) Some of the designs are a bit to Orlesian and some are a bit to Fereldan. The basic Greatsword looks like crap. Its got a long handle with a big piece of a doorknob at the end, it looks like its made out of plastic except for the blade in the right light showing the glimmering metal. It looks like its gonna fall apart though.  Maybe what im trying to say is that the designs of weapons where all over the place and not enough strong designs that make you want to take that son of forge and chop a head off a ventori.

 

Note Also the better the combat and funner it stays then the less conscerned with sword and armor styles you become. Sometimes finding something new and incredible looking keeps the game fresh for a couple more hours. In the Firrst AC the hidden blade was awesome then 3 hours went by and I cold care less. IN the new AC you get to choose from all sort o weapons. What kind of assassin uses a damn greataxe. That's more of a Warrior that comes hulking out of the shadows and smashes a targets intire body then flees cuz..hes an assassin and not a barbarian lord.

 

Also I gotta say that even though the dodge moves that we have for all classes are cool and he one backflip dodge you could do as a rogue every 15 second in DA2 was annoying cuz why wouldn't you dodge very so often. Its perfect in Inquisition because you cant do it every split second but anyway in DA2 the Combat was more visceral and bloody. The camera stayed down with the action and behind the character I controlled and animations were basic and badass not flashy and generic or ridiculous like Mighty blow. Spin around and then slam a sword into the ground with one hand reverse grip? Maybe a hammer but if all anmations for all weapons in a skll tree or class are the same then they should all fit. Groundshaking strike is cool enough but fire erupting from the ground like dragon ball z? I miss the scythe move where you charged a group and chopped them into bloody bits that was bad ass. Also special move didn't miss so often with the off target, targeting sstem and cluny sticky slow lock on system..

 

Where are you my perfect sword fighting medieval melee fighting combat system and weapon design? Kingdom Come Deliverance or whatever looks intestine but I don't like the idea of FP melee or the dullness of Dungeons...No dragons... So Theres Dungeons in the game but they are just filled with  ****** pots and rotting food, hey and feces? Is there treasure? I would of went with Battlefields, Dungeons, and Historically accurate medieval fiction and not a tagline that omits the coolest part of Medieval fiction...the fantasy aspect. I missed the first episode of game of thrones and watched the next few and never thought it was a fantasy show at all but its got my attention and im waiting for a proper game.
