Grappling Chain throwing enemies AWAY?

(I'm on PC, standard keybindings.)

So, this is my first time playing a warrior, and Grappling Chain has got me very confused.  Judging from my internet searches, this ability has had a lot of problems, but I haven't yet seen this particular glitch on any messageboards:

1) I have a very nearby enemy; call this Enemy A

2) I go into tactical mode (pausing the action)

3) Activate Grappling Chain, which turns my mouse into targeting crosshairs

4) Click on the enemy I want to hit with the ability, somebody far away; call this Enemy B

5) Cancel tactical mode to resume action

Expectation: Enemy A should be ignored, and Grappling Chain should drag Enemy B to me.

What actually happens: Enemy B stays put, and instead Enemy A gets thrown to the same location as Enemy B, away from me!

I thought I was crazy the first time I saw it, but it happens every time, easily reproducable.  Is this...working as intended?  A bug?  Am I doing something wrong?

Side Question:

So far, I've been REALLY frustrated by this ability.  Is there some way to force Grappling Chain to target a particular mob?  Targeting the enemy via right-clicking and THEN activating Grappling Chain doesn't work: it ignores my target and just picks whatever enemy was closest to me.

Lol I'm going to try this, but it sounds like you're trying to target an enemy behind an other enemy.

I've been using grapling chain a lot lately, but I've never seen this happen.

Target the desired enemy in real time first, then activate tac cam.

Many abilities will interact with other enemies along the path to the target. It does sound like a glitch that the first enemy is knocked back, instead of being pulled when hit. But the chain should hit the first enemy it reaches. Line of sight is necessary for many abilities, and another enemy interferes with LoS.

Thanks for the replies :)  I'm afraid WoW has trained me to think in terms of targets rather than line-of-sight, heh.  It's hard to get used to.

Does the distance separating the enemies side to side have any effect? I'm thinking grappling chain is larger than the graphics show on screen by a bit and, that's why it's pushing enemy A when you target enemy B - It's hitting A and dragging them to B before it tries to do what you want it to do.

It's quite possible.  In some of my tests, enemy A was definitely between me and enemy B, and in other cases, I was fighting in such close quarters against so many targets that I would not have been surprised in the least if the game had considered enemy A to be blocking line of sight.

Well, regardless, the fact that Grappling Chain apparently relies on line of sight means it's useless for what I wanted it for.  Not that that's a bad thing!  Just, I'm getting frustrated because I misunderstood the ability's intention.  Essentially, I was expecting a WoW-Deathknight-style deathgrip: I wanted to be able to stand in the midst of melee attackers, and be able to either snag archers or mages to pull them into range, or to grab enemies that attacked my companions, without having to move.  The fact that it can't handle having any other mob in the way means that's not a viable use Grappling Chain.  (Presumably it's meant just to be a distance closer when you have no nearby enemies, sort of a reverse Charging Bull.)  Guess I'll spec out of it and find something that suits my playstyle better.

Thanks so much for the input.

Now I'm wondering if I can use this glitch to, say, throw an enemy off a cliff...
