The developers of SSI (the AD&D Gold Box games, Dark Sun, and older cRPGs that pioneered the industry) have reformed as TSI and just launched a kickstarter campaign for their first project, Seven Dragon Saga.

NWN2 has given us Pool of Radiance Re-mastered, and the Storm of Zehir expansion owes much of its design direction as an homage to those old Gold Box games. As the first officially licensed Dungeons & Dragons products for the computer, indeed, titles such as Neverwinter Nights  and Baldur's Gate owe their existence to these developers and enjoy a shared heritage.

Anyone interested in a classic RPG, with turn-based combat and full party control, based on a home-brewed PnP setting, then check out:

TSI could use the support!

Yes, they appear to be developing a unique setting that bears some similarity to Kara-Tur, with other cultural elements mixed in. I think it'll be interesting. For those who have perhaps tired of western fantasy settings and want something a little different, this may be the game for you.

More good stuff coming up.  I wonder about the non-combat aspects, though.  I like the Gold Box games, and they have encounters, dialogue, and choices, even if they're very minimal.  Some even have recruitable companions that join your party alongside the player-created ones.

The fact that it's turn-based is probably the biggest selling point for me given what we see here.  I do like the ability to create your whole party, but that's not the most important thing for me.  I hope we'll be able to control them individually outside of combat as well as within it.

A pity they didn't continue the "Dark Sun" stuff.

Yes it's too bad. But there would be licensing issues.

Anyway, the Kickstarter was cancelled.

I'm not surprised TBH. Despite nervnich's enthusiasm it looked a bit too niche to succeed.
