Hey guys, first post on this forum. I'm
having a bit of trouble with Dragon Age on my PC. Let me give you my
specs before I continue:
i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz
GTX 285
6 gigs RAM
Windows 7 64 bit
My
comp should easily be able to run this game. It stays at sixty frames
(with v-sync) if there isn't a lot going on in the environment, but my
performance will seriously drop in some areas. During one battle in a
town (I won't spoil it) my frames dropped to 20. An interesting point
is that my settings aren't even maxed out. I have frame buffer effects
off and AA down to 2X. I saw that there are some memory leak issues
being looked into by Bioware, and I am suffering from those as well,
but this performance is apparent soon after I boot the game up. I have
the latest NVidia drivers. Any ideas or similar stories?
Need help with PC performance

I don't have the game yet, so I can't tell you for sure, but out of curiosity, if you go back to the same spot, is the frame-drop repeatable? Does it always occur in the same area? If not, then you may have a program running in the background using up some CPU cycles and RAM.

I am having the same issues. I keep wondering if there is going to be a patch. My computer should be able to handle it as well, I have it on the lowest setting and it still struggles. The other thing I noticed is that the load times are up to 5 minutes in crowded areas. Is that happening to anyone else?

Yeah, same areas. Usually in cities and areas with more than a few props. Sometimes it gets even worse in those areas, but I know that's due to the memory leak.

Well, no offense, but I hope the problem is related to your graphics card, because other than that, you and I have about the same system and I don't want to have that happen. xD Seriously though, I'd just switch around display settings for a while to find 'the one' that is causing it. In KotOR, my computer at the time had a problem with anti-aliasing, and with Mass Effect, my computer had a problem with dynamic shadows. Perhaps by running down the list and trying each one out, you can find a setup that works for you in DA. =[ Semi-relatedly, I had an experience with Bioshock where I actually had to switch to Windowed Mode for one level in particular. The rest of the game played just fine, but on that one level, I had to switch the settings, restart, and go back in. Hopefully there will be a patch out for DA:O in the next week or two, what with all of the bugs some players have found.

Q6600+ 4gb ddr2 on winxp 32bit with 2x8800gtx sli @1920x1200 (ingame maxed out everything) and 8x forced Ani , driver 190.62.
Framerate constant 60fps. Some cut scenes make it drop. And after playing for like 6 hours or more, the loading times start to increase and the framerate starts to drop. Save , Quit and Exit game. Restart and your good to go again.

Consider yourself lucky... I'm playing it on an old laptop and during some of the endgame fights it takes 30 seconds to a minute for damage to register. Sigh.

i have to say that performance on ati cards is a tad better, i've tested a 4850 vs a nvidia 260 and the ati had a bit better frame-rate in action scenes.
also the loading time after a few hours seems to be worse on nvidia also, lets hope nvidia can get their act together and develop some better drivers.

I also get the performance drop some here speak of only it appears far more often for me then i like, only in doing haven(caves and all) i had to restart the game 7 times. Fps drop to under 20 if i keep going or some fights skills/dmg don't register until way later, its annoying to do cone of cold only to have the affect apply 30 sec after freezing units not how there were standing when i used the skill but how they are now 30 sec later.
i hope they find this and patch it away. If i restart the game it flows flawless for a while then just bogs down.
