Right after LIs start performing the stat-checks before initiating the romance. Again.

Mimicking computer OS ? I don't see the relevance. The idea behind D20 was that you would have systems for different settings that were close enough so players could transfer easily between them. If you could play D&D D20, you could pick up Star Wars D20pretty fast.

The d20 system was the first RPG system to be marketed as such and the first to be "open source" (another computer expression). The goal was to make D&D the "windows" of RPG, on one hand relieving RPG developers of the chore of making a game system by hooking their fluff to the d20 engine, on the other hand imposing D&D as THE system to be used and selling a ton of Player's Handbook even to people who didn't play D&D. They succeeded, which made the d20 system and the d20 rules ubiquitous in that era. This made D&D, a completely outdated system at the time a reference again (even though the system was still outdated).

It was a shame, too, because some of the systems it replaced were significantly better. The old d6-based Star Wars RPG was really good.

And frankly, if you wanted one roleplaying ruleset generic enough that it could be applied universally, we already had the Generic Universal Roleplaying System (GURPS). If only Steve Jackson Games hadn't been so protective of it.

OK, the analogy makes a little more sense now. But really, this is only different in presentation from what GURPS and Hero System had already tried. Except for the open-source bit -- which means that you should probably switch your analogy to Linux.

I'll switch to Linux the day Linux is as succesfull as an OS as the d20 system has been as an open source RPG system ;-) (which is not a quip at Linux's qualities as an OS). The open source bit is key though, that was the big difference that created the following. They didn't force anyone to use it, but the quantity of small companies that used it to shorten development time and printing material (no rules to print) created an inertia that made some felt like they had to go d20 or die.

It was a shame, too, because some of the systems it replaced were significantly better. The old d6-based Star Wars RPG was really good.

The d20 craze went overboard, they tried to fit it everywhere even where it didn't really fit, games like Star Wars or Spycraft would have fared better with their own dedicated systems.

Or even +2 Swords.  I really like dice mechanics.

Anyway to put in an initiative roll into Dragon Age?

Why stop at +2?  Iron Bull scoffs at +2.  Iron Bull sees your +2 and raises to...(drum roll please)...

Manual dexterity and stamina are important parts of a satisfying romantic relationship. ^_^

Amusingly, if you ever watch video on the BBC website, their volume controls go to 11.

Like being around for more time meant anything.
It was never about this, it is being for dumbs or for people with brain. People with brains think and act people without brain act. So you can't have stats in zelda or inquisition because players have no brain, simple enough, if you play action **** you are too dumb to think, when you think action games make your brain starve, might as well work like a robot, thing for dumbs

This hurt to read.

On IMDB the ratings for the movie also go to 11.

And what would a +1 Sword do in Inquisition?  Bonus to Attack? Bonus to Damage?  How much is a +1 bonus, anyways?

And what of the REALLY oddball swords (Defenders)?

Several crafting materials give damage/attack bonuses.  What's stopping you from making one, and naming it +1 Sword?

This hurt to read.

Action is existence greatest error, there should be no reality, nothing around us, thoughts are the only good thing in existence, interaction with the universe is a mistake, we should be formless, immaterial thoughts interacting only with one another with language but since we are cursed with a body we should at least in fantasy be able to avoid action. I'm just happy this error called life lasts only about a century or less, well shouldn't last more than 1 second, really, even so it would still be way too long of an eternity for such a excruciating pain. But what is the point of fantasy if you are going to taint it with reality most cruel aspect? Action of course.

This didn't help.
