Ethics is BS. It's a way for someone to sleep at night. I do what I want because it's fun and I'm enjoying life. I feel guilt for hurting people and the main reason I don't hurt them. Humans are ultimately selfish and anyone who claims otherwise has never looked up our history. Some people don't want to and I'm cool with that. As long as they're happy with it. Though when someone claims to be ethical it's essentially someone being self-righteous and arrogant.
Actually, humans are hardwired for empathy. We have some selfish tendencies, many of which are leftover from much harder times, like the desire to accumulate 'stuff', but we're a social bunch. It's just that a minority have more self-interest than others and they tend to rise to the top. Using the worst case scenario to describe humanity is disingenuous.
Ethics are a neutral tool. They vary widely, even in a self-contained group, like families, like how in mine I'm pretty progressive and most of my family is various shades of politically (American) conservative on my dad's side. There's even more variation from my mother's because she's from the East and most of her family is Buddhist and raised in the Confucius ideal. I would say that ethics is a vague term to try to contain any concept of morality, sure, but ethics do exist and will spring up in any sort tribal setting. Even Objectivism has ethics, it's just alien to most of us.

All humans act because it will ultimately benefit us. Whether it will be a physical benefit such as a reward or a psychological reward such as easing our guilt or deriving pleasure from such action.
To be truly selfish you'd have to have no emotions and do things just because. But then we'd cease to be human. Humans are ultimately selfish, to think otherwise is foolish.

That's ethical egoism ^^
On the topic, I don't think there is simply answer if Dorian is ethically righteous or not, since that depends on people's own ethical views, there really is no objective and universal ethics though people have tried to come up with some rules like declarations of human rights and I think there is good to be some lines like that.

Fun fact, I take some responsibility for the creation of Dorian Pavus.
Talking about your nickname, shouldn't you protect the Universe from this kind of threads?

Well, if there is no ethics that is objective, then there is nothing wrong with enslavement or murder.
So, either Dorian is the same as Tevinter and Qunari or he is not. Both are powerful statements.
