When playing Dragon Age - or really any other BioWare roleplay game - I tend to do a couple playthroughs until I find a path of choice and a character that I like and then I play that path/character over and over again. It's fun for me. It's like playing Batman: Arkham Asylum over and over again. If I'm with a character I like, the game never gets old.

I can't be the only person who does this, but I've had a few friends suggest I'm crazy for doing so. I have tried playing other characters, but I just get bored because I've already fallen in love with certain aspects of the game and it's not as much fun deviating from them. I'm much happier in my head canon.

Anyone else do repetitive playthroughs?

I do it just feels right with a canon run

I was this way in DA:O. My canon run (Female Dalish rogue, romancing Leliana, Alistair/Anora as rulers, Alistair does DR, so on so on) is the only character I've ever played all the way through, and I've done it multiple times now. My save folder is about six completed instances of the same character.

Every other character I tried to make just felt like an imposter to me. I had a Brosca I liked, but they didn't feel like 'the Warden' to me, and I never got past the first main quest as them. I just like my canon Warden too much.

Don't really feel this way about DA2 and DA:I, though. I guess I'm just not attached enough to my canon Hawke and Inquisitor to care as much.

I always have my "evil mage guy" character, but I still try and make a different character to experience as much as possible (usually revolving around the number of romances available)

This is more or less what I do, though in Inquisition, picking one has been trickier than usual.

Yes, Inquisition seems to have a lot to choose from...

although, I feel myself gravitating back toward my Lavellan playthrough...

I played DAO well more than 10 times most are very similar, mostly the only differences is the race elf or human always female, never get tired of the game or Leliana's romance for that matter. I actually enjoy the repetition especially on a game I really enjoy, something about knowing what's going to happen next is rather comfortable for me.

I do the same thing. Most of my playthroughs are essentially the same character.

The majority of the times I don't play that character are merely experimental playthroughs to see what I miss.

I'm right there with you, Op. I've been doing that since Kotor. I guess it's because I'd started off playing JRPGs, and most of the ones I've played really don't have choices like that, beside who do you want to travel with(Chrono Cross  )

Praise the Maker, someone like me!! I replayed my canon Hawke twice because I loved her and the story told through her (and, of course, in preparation for DAI). I'm on my second playthrough of DAI and I am so utterly in love with my Lavellan I just know she is my canon and I'm going to replay her over and over again.   (Got a save right after the opening scene for this purpose)!

Like how each playthrough of DAI is, for me, better than the last, each playthrough with my canon character is better than the last. I feel like I get to know her better, and that makes for a better experience.

I might eventually get to other characters I'm planning...maybe. Eventually. They'd be just "for fun"...which is...weird to say because they're all for fun, but you know what I mean.

I cahnge the decisions but, I do play the same toon over and over, just play it a bit differently each time. One time he might be totally against execution, the next he hates the chantry, next time he fears mages, next he want's freedom for all, etc...

I make a character and play the game. As I am going along I'll tweak her here and there, until I am satisfied. Restart the game, make her again and play. I did this for DAO, DA2 and DAI. I feel like when I am playing games like this I want to tell her story not a dozen characters. Plus I enjoy it. :D

to be fair this is easier in ME then DA I.  With the ability to import your Shepard and face codes in 2 and 3.  So I did that a lot in ME, even down to the way I would recruit companions, but not so much with DA...yet.  May do it with DA I though, but on the flip side I do enjoy running variations.

I agree OP, I'll try something different just to keep it fresh but overall I tend to find my canon PC and canon PT and just play that multiple times. lol!

My friend said she wants t co do this with her Inquisitor cause she fell in love with him so much.. Personally I don't get it, to me it sounds bit boring and when I have finished playthrough that Inquisitors story is then told, I have no intrest replaying it ^^; But each for themselves, people seem to have really different playstyles in RPG's, some just making themselves in the game, some only playing with same gender as they are, some making many different characters (like me :) ).

I sort of treat my main character like I would my favorite movie or TV show. I always end up returning to that character. I'll change things up here and there, but there's always that one particular set that I'll stick to.

I know this isn't a Skyrim forum, but i did stick to the same character with 3 complete playthroughs but over 2000+ hours played...don't ask me how :)

I am still going to do it in DAI...that is same character for each playthrough....so far approaching 400 hours....oh i do tend to walk everywhere now we have the walk toggle...but switch to run mode in combat..

I still have the habit though of trying to always say the nicest dialogue options i can find to Leliana. Old habits die hard. :P

I do something similar myself.

I did play through all six origins (seven if you count Amell and Surana as different like I did) but I always seemed to fixate on two 'canon' Wardens that I'd repeat a few times just for the heck of it. In my case it was Tabris female and Amell female though I was partial to Aeducan male. Just not as much.

Same for DA2. I really liked a dual wield rogue Hawke or a mage Hawke female. Repeated each of those at least three times each to cover each Warden I'd created.

As for Inquisition, I've already developed a human female Trevelyan who is a two-handed sword wielder with distinct looks and hair that I've already used twice. Any that deviate from this will be "experimental" characters trying out different possibilities.

Nope, you're not alone OP.  And I too have been criticised for being "boring" for playing the same story again and again. But meh, I'm certainly not bored, so who cares?  ;) Origins is always Elswyn Cousland (that lovely lady you see in my avatar) who romances Leliana, gets Alistair to marry Anora AND do the DR with Morrigan (I feel so guilty each time, poor Alistair! I secretly ship him and Morrigan though, so they enjoy it in my mind :P), saves mages at the Circle, gets Zathrian to help the werewolves, etc etc etc. DA2 is Marian Hawke who sides with the mages and is a cheeky little git who tames the wild Pirate Queen. I'm also always a Warrior.

I'm actually tempted to break out of my comfort zone for Inquisition, though. My default is female Adaar who romances Josephine and is generally a good person with a cheeky sense of humour like the other two. I like the little ways choosing a Qunari influenced the game, though, so I'm curious do the other choices do the same. Plus I really want to see the Cassandra and Dorian romances play out. I kind of like that I'm forced to change it up a bit if I want to do that. Well, forced to change gender at least.  B)

Yes, I have a canon playthrough for Kotor as well.

Exactly, yes. I find a character whose story I'm interested in, and that's all I want to play afterwards. :)

Exactly the same for me too!

DAO I ran with a female Cousland Rogue, I completed the entire game + Awakening and other DLCs with the same Warden and never had the heart or inclination to play another Origin (I tried but never got past Ostagar), all replayed with similar decisions (a few tweaks here and there, but always pretty much consistent).  For DA2 I ran two Hawkettes but always had saves from the intro for fresh games when I picked the game up again because I didn't like remaking them every time I started over.

Now for DAI I made a Trevelyan and a Lavellan, though I am enjoying the Lavellan a lot more and both have a save immediately after the intro cutscene for restarts.

I thought I was being weird...nice to see there are other like-minded people here :D

I'm the same with DAO. I played all the origins, but never made past where Duncan recruited me.

I never thought about having a save right after the intro... I will have to try that! I kept things easy with DA2 by just keeping with mostly default settings so my Hawke was easy to build. But DAI is much more complicated if you want to make a good elf.
