There is usually one character I play all the way through who is IT for me. In ME3, I import the same character from ME2 and replay as different classes, i.e., Soldier, Engineer, etc., but literally the same character.
DA:O is a little different. I have a canon Warden who is a male elf because that's how I wrote my fan-fic, but when I play, I'm usually a female human mage.
DA:II Same thing - female mage in Rivalmance with Fenris. What changes is the kind of magic I use.
Inquisition: I've played a Qunari all the way through, and a human male all the way through to try a couple of romances, but then I bounce between a human female and elven female, either a mage or a S&S Warrior.
In most cases, however, I make the same decisions, and choose the same quests, put the same person on the throne, etc. I try other options perhaps once, with a couple of exceptions: I never save the Anvil of the Void, I always lift the curse on the werewolves, I never make the deal with the demon to keep Conor, I NEVER give Fenris back to Denarius, and I never tranquil the half-elven kid. There are some lines I just can't cross.

Same here! Only one Warden, and one Hawke. I've attempted to complete the playthroughs of other characters but I end up losing steam and returning to my canon characters. The Warden will always be a female cousland and I cant imagine Hawke not being a funny rogue. Inquisition is an exception though.

I have a couple of favorites myself that I like to replay. I haven't yet managed to create an Elf character that I like well enough to get past maybe 5th or 6th level, still working on that as a goal. Mostly everytime I see them in that outfit in the warroom and they look so godawful scrawny.. lol.
I've done a couple of Quinari that I've really enjoyed, one human mage that is just a hoot, and a couple of human fighters so far that I've really enjoyed. I've tried a couple of rogues, I seem to enjoy archer more than dual wield - it just seems to fit my style better, but it's tough to go archer after playing a mage so haven't really got one built up to any significant level yet.
With the characters I really enjoy i generally try to save at most of the 'big" decision points so I can always step back in time and replay it later, not necessarily to change paths but just so I can enjoy playing from that point again.

I cahnge the decisions but, I do play the same toon over and over, just play it a bit differently each time. One time he might be totally against execution, the next he hates the chantry, next time he fears mages, next he want's freedom for all, etc...
See, to me, those are very different toons. Looks are only part of it -- I generally build a unique personality for each one I make. ![]()
I have a character that pops up in each DA game -- my first Origins character. Though I don't do her for DA2/DAI "canon" (first, unspoiled) playthroughs. Playing literally the same character over and over would bore me to tears though. I like all the "what if?" scenarios. I like hearing different dialogue options, seeing different companion reactions, different endings, etc. ![]()

Thing is... she's a qunari, and getting the Arishok's vitaar is a must for me. That means collecting shards. Again.

I do the same thing - once I fall in love with a sarcastic female mage Hawke who romances Anders, I just don't see how I can replay it with a warrior(eww, Bethany!) or with another love interest(who?) or with a different personality(diplomacy? meh).

I do the same too. I try to do something funny every now and then. In DA:I I made a really old wrinkled and bald elf. He's not necessarily evil but so tired, old and grumpy he seems that way. He's a 2 handed warrior and you see this puny old guy running around with a huge sword twice his size. Looking like a cross between Captain Picard and Yoda its pretty funny.

I'm surprised that there are others like me
considering how I keep reading about how others have a bunch of completely different characters.
I, for one, also just keep replaying the same character over and over
.
In DAO I had my lady tabris (romanced zevran, first put anora on the throne, but changed it in the keep to alistair after a certain decision in DAI, alistair did the DR) and tried a Mahariel, Surana(finished this PTs as well, but never clicked with me the same way as my tabris) and Cousland(never finished it-got too bored),
In DA2 I had my snarky-aggresive mage lady hawke (romanced fenris, didn't even bothered trying other hawkes
)
In DAI I started with a mage lady lavellan (my first one romanced cullen, then made other 2 for Solas and BW, all of them allied with mages, put gaspard under briala's thumb, and made hardened leliana devine), I tried a human mage PT but, again, I stopped after in you heart shall burn (too boring)

When playing Dragon Age - or really any other BioWare roleplay game - I tend to do a couple playthroughs until I find a path of choice and a character that I like and then I play that path/character over and over again. It's fun for me. It's like playing Batman: Arkham Asylum over and over again. If I'm with a character I like, the game never gets old.
I can't be the only person who does this, but I've had a few friends suggest I'm crazy for doing so. I have tried playing other characters, but I just get bored because I've already fallen in love with certain aspects of the game and it's not as much fun deviating from them. I'm much happier in my head canon.
Anyone else do repetitive playthroughs?
I do the same thing. In DAI, I play a male Trevelyan Inquisitor who romances Cassandra, allies with the mages, and rebuilds the Wardens. I have a female Trevelyan who romances Sera, but my male is my canon.

I do this too. Except I usually have about 2 ( or in DA:O 3) different head-canons. I don't think it's that weird though. I liken it to watching your favorite movie or tv show that never gets old. But it's better since your playing and experiencing it, rather than just viewing.

I do find myself playing the game a certain way multiple times. I do try to alter choices just enough to tweak how things come out. It bothers me to kill off Hawke, but I did it in my last play through. Normally I save her. Normally I save the Chargers. Eventually I'm going to have to kill them off. Maybe this play through. But I definitely have pet party members that get picked all the time. I find myself having to pick other people on purpose so I can hear different dialogue combinations. But as long as you are still getting joy out of the game, that is all that really matters.

I used to do this a lot in Origins, and in DA2 I have a Hawke that I can't help but repeat every time, but in Inquisition I don't find the game as replayable so I think I will try my best to make unique characters every time.

Same here. I'm currently into my third playthrough with a male human Rift Mage. I tried playing a different specialization in my second playthrough for a few hours but found that I don't really like how the Necromancer or Knight Enchanter feel (Necromancer is kind of boring and has many annoying abilities, the KE on the other hand is kind of overpowered and simply feels like "Arcane Warrior done wrong" to me).
Also, I tried to play as rogue and warrior at least once, but what can I say, I'm a mage player by heart. ![]()
Apart from that, my characters always share my own moral compass, so naturally, most decisions I make in games, I make in every playthrough, except for small experimental deviations à la "let's see how this plays out".
And last but not least, I always play male characters and I always try to make the next character look the same as the last one. ![]()

I think I'm the opposite. I'll replay my canon once so that it's how I want it. Other than that, I like to make a different character each time, keep things fresh and try something new.

Depends on the game for me. Sarcastic FemHawke, for instance, is the only way to play Hawke in DA2*.
For the longest time, I only ever played paragon Shepards in ME, but lately they've been all renegons.
For DA:I I've been playing different races and classes, and through (nearly) three PTs, I have an elf mage, a human rogue, and a dwarf fighter -- I know, I know, how imaginative
... but now matter how I intend to play their personalities at the start, they've all generally ended up being mice to everyone.... so I guess, I dunno, maybe I do play the same character over and over, from a certain P.O.V. ![]()
* - okay not really, but yes... really

I just finished my second playthrough and have started my third. I am SO happy to returning to my Lavellan character - I spent a lot of time getting her face as close to my original playthrough as possible and then wrote down the sliders so I'll have them forever.
My previous playthrough was with a human noble. I was testing out different choices and such, and I just realized that I pretty much ran through the game as quickly as possible. I wasn't having as much fun. But with my Lavellan, I can already feel the difference. I'm so excited for the game again. I fully intend to spend as much time as possible with her.

Yes! I could play SW:TOR light side imperial agent storyline over and over again. KOTOR too... I know I could do things differently but I just end up playing it more or less the same way than before. And that bolded part, definitely.

All of my cannon characters from DA:O to DA:I have been dual-wielding female rogues (race may vary) who think more or less the same (pro-mage, freedom, etc).
I think by the end of the Dragon Age series, whenever or if ever that comes, all major events will have been brought forth by female rogues in my world state.

The badass rise of Artorias Cousland and his greatsword, cheating on Leliana with Morrigan (and then becoming her friend). Hardening his friend Alistair (then making him a decent ruler, with help of course) and insisting that Loghain dies by his hand (Howe acted at his command, and can't be forgiven). Yeah...it's about to happen for the third time.
