Done with DAI, not that I ever really got to really play much... The following is a vent on my part, ignore if you dont want to hear b****ing and 'feedback'....

I trusted Bioware particularly after my awesome experience in DAO an DA2 on the PC platform, I had no reason to believe that BW would create the incredible disaster that is DAI, so I pre-bought in anticpation. To this day, I still cant believe it; the complete departure from the otherwise successful formulas behind DAO and DA2. Sure, DA2 had some rushed content, but the essential ingredients from DAO were all there. I ENJOYED those games, still a good adventure.

Since they abandoned DA2, i.e. electing not to be bothered with the 'Exalted Marches', I had waited like many others for news about "Dragon Age 3", and was excited to hear they were working on it. I thought "this is going to kick ass", that they would take the best elements of DAO and DA2 and wrap them in stunning package, a worthy successor.

But no...

Instead I bought DAI and received a frak'n console game. A Skyrim'esque game worthy of a hand-held controller game box.... missing ALL the best things from its predecessors. And to top it off, a useless-to-me multiplayer mode....

"My gawd, I think I just got robbed."

So after reading these forums for months, looking for any sign of hope that the design faults would be addressed, very little has happened, even less has been said by Bioware. Its clear the bugs will be addressed (SLOWLY), but the game design is hopelessly locked into console style play. Maybe I'll check back in a year for a giggle.

Uninstalled the game earlier, put it all back in the box, and set it on my software shelf so it can collect dust. Drive space reclaimed.

$70 down the drain.

So thanks Bioware. I cant enjoy DAI, but you can at least go enjoy a pricey steak dinner on me.

Out.

LOL

DA2 was an above average game. Inquisition is far greater simply by having better gameplay and a story that is actually consistent within itself, without the numerous plot holes and forced nonsense.

I think they just put in AutoAttack but I haven't tried it yet.

Okay I don't know what key to bind the autoattack to.  So I have to keep hitting the key after each attack.

That's a weak complaint man. Most people legitimately had reasons to shelf the game (the major bugs at launch mainly) - you really don't, lol. Now that the game has had many patches, it's a good time to hop in and enjoy the ride.

First - Accept that it is an Action RPG with a Tactics System at your disposal only when necessary.

Second - Play with a 360 controller. If you don't have one, get one. Don't fight it. The console market is very strong and us PC Gamers will be getting a lot of games made with controllers in mind. Just go with the flow. Relax. Life becomes easier this way.

Give it another shot man! The replay value is great. I must of made 10 characters by now! Only took 1 to the end so far, but i'm planning on getting at least another one to the end pretty quick here.

And the Multiplayer is worth playing for a week or 2 or so until you get bored of the grinding and exhaust all the classes.

Overlook the fanbois and know you have many fellow consumers who are just as disappointed as you. I'm less disappointed as I paid only 30 € of this...whatever...and I play it only to document two romances. In DAO and DA2 (and that was not a bad game at all) I was passionate about gameplay, I played on harder difficulties to challenge myself and I played those games until I knew every bit of them. This one...there is nothing to learn and nothing to know. You collect power-points and try to find your way from A to B. That is all there is. If  you don't like the game you don't, and you have to give it ZERO chance if you feel like it. There are TOO many of us who know what you mean, OP, and where you come from.

And so what if this is an ACTION-game? Action-games are my bread and butter. It is what I play. I love them. This game TRIES to be an action-game and it FAILS even in that. This games developers had no idea what they were trying to accomplish and they created an abomination.

Um, okay.   I did that with the Witcher, only I didn't hang around their forums to berate the company or their fans.  It wasn't for me, and I uninstalled it.   It's colorful pixels arranged in a way that I didn't care for.  Woopity-doo.  Life moves on.

Go find a game you like, and good luck.   You could probably get some good recommendations from the Off-Topic section about RPGs that are coming out.

@TaHol You can enjoy DA:I a lot and not be a fanboy.  Like I did.  I just don't feel the need to constantly defend the game if another doesn't feel the same way.   I had fun, but others didn't for various reasons.  To each their own, and life's too damn short to bicker over something as silly as another person's gaming experience.   ;)

@McPartyson: Screw the controller, I use a 15 button gaming mouse and my keyboard.  It works great for me, and I have zero trouble getting all the shards.  I know most other folks aren't as fortunate, but that's what I do.   My Naga mouse is great for other games as well.  That being said, if one can't afford a $85 gaming mouse, they should probably stick with a controller for this game.   :)

These Action RPGs that have big budgets are few and far between. I would never recommend anybody to skip over this game. What are you gonna play instead? Some old games that came out years ago? Some indie Steam games? Look at the bigger picture man.

Different people, different problems. I was initially unable to play the game because it was so poorly optimised - couldn't even get in the main menu. It took a new computer to get it running. Despite having finished the game, I share OP's opinion.

DA:I is a action-game wannabe. It shouldn't be. Dragon Age is an RPG with tactical elements, but Inquisition seemed to think that was overrated and simplified to combat to boredom and beyond. The only reason why I finished the game was for the story. I've been thinking of doing a second playthrough and siding with the Templars this time around, but the knowledge that I'd have to grind my way through the game just... no. This game does not respect my time.

I play on a PC specifically because I do not want to have to deal with a controller. If you are going to think that way about controllers being necessary, developers will think we're ok with this farce. It's not. I have a good mouse and all the keys I need on my keyboard - why would I be trading that in for an inferior device? Controllers are good in certain genres, like platformers, but DA:I is NOT something to be played with a controller. I utterly refuse to play a tactics game with a controller. This is regressive and I won't be a part of it.

I agree with you OP. DA:I is a console game peddled as a PC title. What a joke.

How is DAI console game though? I don't find it's play style easy to play with console. I had to play like 40 hours to even remember keys. There is no auto-attack on consoles either. Whose idea was put X for jump? Now when I'm trying to reach stairs to "climp" down my Inquisitor just jumps down and takes tons of falling damage. Also there is no mods in consoles and this game really misses them, usually I'm not intrested in games, but they would help in DAI.

Yeah I heard its not much better on consoles, but go play DAO on a PC and the play DAI on a PC and you will know why its a console port.

I have DAO on PC and I think it's better than DAO on PS3 where I have both games. I wouldn't still say DAI is better on PS3 than DAO, DAO actually is better gameplay-wise on PS3.. and it doesn't crash unlike DAI does a lot in PS3. I don't have opportunity to play DAI on PC though so I can't compare that, but I know that my friend who plays it with PC is happy and in general PC players seems happy customers when compared to others.

At a guess: things like enforced 30 FPS during cutscenes on PC hint at console-centered programming and hard-coding, in this case some cutscene related code that does not work at FPS rates other than 30 - the audio goes out of sync, badly. The walk toggle turns into a one-way ticket if you disable the FPS lock, etc.

Also, the fact that you have to keep the right mouse button pressed to change your character's heading on PC, while releasing the button will cause the mouse to move the camera angle. It means you need to keep the right mouse button pressed during most of your gameplay, something pretty much every other game does the other way around. That design can't possibly come from someone who played with keyboard and mouse before. What would people say if normal console gameplay would require you to keep one button pressed most of the time?

Ability slots are a multiple of 4. That's either some really deep tactical gameplay decision, or related to the number of buttons on a controller. We may never know.

That said, it's definitely playable on PC. Serviceable. It can be done. But it could be so much better.

Idk, I also think it could be better on consoles. I don't think key bindings that are used are that good and system was better in previous DA games.

Eh, I've found that it depends on your class. Mages and ranged rogues play well enough, but in melee one can't help but notice massive hitbox related problems.

As far as I remember (I'v never seen the option to change it) the glorious DAO and DA2 had the same problem.. so I had to get used to this - Why can KOTOR (the opposite: if you needed the curser to click on something you could hold down the right mouse button) do it so much better than every DA game?
