No matter what class I'm rocking, I'm gonna be using the same basic strategy and techniques. those are as follows:

1: My playstyle has evolved around not dying.

2. Stay calm and aim for the head. Do not get flustered.

3. Be aware of the mooks. either kill them before engaging a boss or move to a position where they cannot hit you and attack the boss from there.. If your teammates are attacking a boss and there are mooks shooting at them, do not shoot the boss as well. They have it covered, kill the mooks and then help finish off the boss: who will now be no threat as no one needs to be revived 2 feet in front of it in a hail of bullets from collector captains etc.

4. Rock the initial spawn on waves 7-9. Workout the most likely spawn location based on your teammates positions. Ideal number of missiles on wave 10 is 2 imo.

5. I normally take a route around the outskirts of the map and then go through the centre to finish the wave. Take wave 1 condor for example: Starting from LZ I would head left, past the crane, up the hill, hit spawn 1 which overlooks the centre. then fight my way back down the hll, past the crane and back past the LZ, and then and only then push through the centre.

6. Attack the game. Kill the enemies before they have a chance to start shooting at you. Take the initiative and rush bosses (after the mooks have been dealt with). Make them swing and miss and punish them for it (not banshees or praetorians or phantoms).

7. Never ever stick with all your team, all the enemy aggro will be coming straight at you. (the exception being if ye are roaming the map as a 4 man death squad)

8. Remember your teammates have gels. If they die in a bad spot the onus is on them to use a gel. Not on you to Rambo in there and bust through 2 ops packs and a missile. You may need that equipment to clutch a wave. or to complete a sticky objective wave. Absolutely no hero stuff can be attempted on Jade (that centre-ish device can be murder).

9. If you go down give your team time to come revive you, it promotes a feeling of teamwork and gives them a chance to return the favour for all the times you revive them.. Never let yourself bleedout or get stomped. If you use equipment, the randoms are more likely to as well. Also if playing with randoms, it's best to assume that if you die: it's missions failed.

So that basically sums up the core of my combat strategy. I enjoy a fast and aggressive playstyle. busting through games quick to spam recruit packs for that sweet N7 Ohhhh Yaaaa!

What's your combat strategy and why?

It's pretty much the same for me except for the fact that I loosely stick to the team by covering the flanks and flanking the enemy in return, even in pug matches. It's helpful when you can stop a Hunter or a phantom sneaking up on your team mates before they become shish kebab. Oh and I missile swarmers..

Separate from the moronic pugs but stay close enough so that I can revive them

I don't play much lately, but will occasionally be seen trolling Silver Pugs

In gold I try to stay close to one squad member

Is there a contradiction between OP's points 8 (teammates have a responsibility to use their gels) and 9 (give teammates lots of time to come and rez you)?

Speaking personally, I tend to gel early and often.  The way I see it: when I drop, it's my own stupid fault.  The other players aren't there to babysit Scrubby McScrubberson, they're there to have fun killing all the things.  If I'm dropping like a fly and being a general liability, I'm getting in the way of their fun and certainly don't expect them to go out of their way to rez me.  The inverse is semi-true, if there's a teammate nearby who has dropped, I pick them up; if they're halfway across the map and surrounded by nasty things, they're probably on their own.

(If a wave is really tough going, I've been known to let myself get stomped rather than gelling, not even bothering to mash the X button.  I'd rather take a moment to get my breath back in spectator mode and start the next wave fresh than keep struggling on.  This is the antithesis of being a team player, I know, but the constant pressure does get on top of me sometimes and I just need a break).

My own strategy, such as it is, is to engage the enemy from a distance.  When I'm forced in close, horrible things tend to happen; so by trying to put some distance between me and the baddies, then unloading with all the powers and ammunition I have, I'm fighting them on my terms.  (Oh, for an infinite supply of sniper rail amp 3s).

Other than trying to keep some distance, there's not really much of a plan.

So, "aggressive" or "not dying" ?

I dont use missiles on team game excpet on wave 11, then i like to die a lot, on each wave possibly, and rush clustered enemies, shooting the bigger target (i suck at aiming)

I'd post a response, but I'm too awestruck by the OPs 1337 SK1LLZ to see my keyboard (or maybe the E-dong just blocked out the light). So I won't.

Some tactics once learned always stick with you and are always needed, but some you mentioned I'd rather let go and play based on mood and what everyone else is doing. Make it too formulaic, and you risk sucking too much fun out of the game. Unless you're aiming for speedrun practice and speed is what keeps you going.

EDIT - I have a problem with #8 since I don't like to play alone.

#9 shouldn't make any sense to you. Because of folks like you I rage gel more then I should. Always tapping that button like heck and seeing no one else put any effort to revive me just makes me feel unwanted. :( I say save your rockets for saving teammates only, and forget the spawn nuking Rambo nonsense (again, unless you speedrunning. Otherwise I'd rather be in the game longer).

Same here. Why when I run out and down with no one picking me up and I enter the dreaded backback mode.... I quit. Just did this yesterday. One guy in particular wanted to play solo, so I let him play solo. As I got no time sitting around when I should be working on getting back into the game again.

Of course, cig break is the only exception. ;)

I always try to take out Marauders/Cannibals before taking on Banshees. Actually I'll actively seek out any mook before engaging a boss

Pick a Geth unit, then spend all game slowly meleeing banshees, blocking/ blinding teammates or bleeding out

Edited to reflect what actually happens with geth in game. Also, you aren't supposed to capitalize "species" (lolrobots) names. Didn't we teach you anything? L2Grammar.
