Fine but it took how long........... Its an explanation that should have been made at launch. Given that the pax demo was used to build up hype.

It didn't take that long at all. Excuse me at launch? What makes you think you are entitled to this info? YOU WERE TOLD MULTIPLE TIMES during that pax clip that this was PRE-ALPHA and that this was SUBJECT to CHANGE. DO you know what this means. Subject to change does not mean a very tiny miniscule, really not worth mentioning chance of change. Subject to change means that it WILL change, yet the developers don't know how, when, where or to what extent or form the change will come in. That is why they repeatedly tell you this. If you IGNORE said warnings that is on YOU and only YOU, not Bioware, not the industry, not EA, just YOU.

The auto industry often show prototype cars at conventions no one screams at them to explain why the prototype had X but the production model has Y. The reason is they are not self entitled, they don't think that a glimpse at what the company is doing during development equals what the final product is. They don't accuse the company of misleading them, or manufacture a conspiracy theory-esque reason behind why the final product doesn't look exactly like the prototype. The most likely reason they don't is because they are MATURE individuals that understand they were give a glimpse into the future of what might be not what will be.

You were informed in a timely manner as to why the developers did x vs y. You are not entitled to know this at launch, hell you are not entitled to know at all. Many artists be their musicians, directors or writers NEVER explain their choices and reasons behind them. You are not so important that you are required to get answers simply because you want them. But you were given a "solid" by bioware explaining why things are as they ended up being. That is them doing you are favour, something you are not entitled to. And this was done in a timely manner, first it is still in the first quarter of the year. The game was released mid November where they spent those first weeks in November making sure to deal with any critical issues. They should not be worried about your hurt feelings because a prototype in a pre alpha state doesn't match the final product. And in December they took off You know to be with their families over the holidays, because they are human and you are NOT more important than them spending time with their families. Then 2 1/2 months later after 5 patches you get an answer and you couldn't even be bothered to read said answer because if you did you'd not have bitched that bioware isn't explaining why the changes were made on the very thread about them explaining why they went with the changes they made. This is all on you, one for not bothering to read the article this thread is about and second for thinking you are owed some kind of explanation that no other consumers is the world think they are owed and explanation for because they seem to be able to grasp what work in progress means, what prototype means, what subject to change means.

Like that's a real accomplishment these days. A gaming GOTY award is literally dime-a-dozen.

No you are right winning ONE GOTY award or ONE gamers/people's choice award is pretty meaningless, but winning Dozens is a REAL accomplishment simply because they are a dime-a-dozen so winning them over and over shows a pattern and can be used to gauge the quality of a product and the how well received a game is by the industry and gamers alike.

Reviews, awards and sales have zero baring one a person's SUBJECTIVE view of a game because it is SUBJECTIVE. So you not liking something has nothing to do with awards or sales and so on. Which also means that your view doesn't change the reality that while YOU don't like the game more people Do like the game. By any rational look at DA:I's sales, awards, ect. you can take away that the game is well made (even if you don't like it) and lots of people like and love the game (even if you don't like it.)

I don't like divinity original sin, WOW or GW2 all games that I think are well made and well loved games. I think Wasteland 2 blows Divinity original sin out of the water for the that 90's isometric RPG style game but I know a lot of people disagree with me and think Divinity is better. But i don't need to justify my dislike of divinity nor do i have to make it into a bad game just because I don't like it. I can accept that what ever combination of features just doesn't mesh with me. My self worth isn't tied to other people agreeing with me that wasteland 2 is 100 times better than divinity, or that EQ2 was better than WOW when it released. I can accept that most people disagreed with me about EQ2. i can accept that WOW was a well made game even if I don't like it. Its time the DA:I haters suck it up and admit that while they don't like the game its been well received and well made (Even if they don't like it.)

I guess it's a good thing it got ten dozen of them. Now it can buy a soda!

In all seriousness, it doesn't really matter to me how many GOTY awards it wins. It was just a way of saying he'll be there, salty, regardless.

I'm not very well acquainted with dimes.

What would you get for 11 of them? (133/12) ?

5-6 months is a fairly significant time.

The pre-alpha argument has been done to death.

And I don't feel I'm entitled to it, my argument is purely about BW communicating with its fans.

I find it interesting that posters belittle the GOTY awards and People's Choice awards when it is a game they do not like, but some are the first to point to them when it is a game they like and support.  :D

If the GOTY and People's choice awards are worthless in one given year then to me they are worthless in any given year.

It really does not matter as long as the investors and stockholders are happy with the financial success and critical acclaim. So those GOTY's and People's Choice awards, Metacritic scores and sales do matter to someone.

But as always YMMV.

Had the game not won any awards (or very little), these very same people would definitely be saying that it's the defiinite proof that Inquisition sucks.

Considering it's just as correct as it's always been and you've done nothing to discredit it, I'd say it's been done to life.

As a now regretful owner of the 360 version, I will vehemently disagree with you. Even with my creative quibbles aside - I think DAI is a soulless heap of a game with no real sense of identity, no depth, and elements shoddily mashed together to cash in on current popularity - I wouldn't call the version I bought functional, much less well made. It's this many months and this many patches in, and it still doesn't work like it should.

And you have a right to that opinion. Just as everyone else has their right to their opinion. Hence those people voted for those GOTY awards and People's Choice awards that you are dismissive about. So those awards matter to some people no matter how many there are.

So you are fine with releasing info but only if it it Finalised? That means you are NOT fine with things being revealed in truth. There is a ZERO guarantee that and feature in development will make it to gold. Developers don't know in advance what things in development will become problematic. They don't know what features they want to add and have prototyped fail to work in the end.

By your standards of what is acceptable for a reveal is there is total silence until a game goes gold aka about 2 weeks before a release. Because that is the only point when a developer "Knows" what features will actually make it into the game.

When developers reveal something in early development they are doing so honestly and they tell players things are subject to CHANGE but its people like yourself that refuse to acknowledge that a trailer and preview of a game in its early stages doesn't mean you will get what you see. What you are getting is a snap shot of the game at that moment in development. Developers have no idea what the future holds they don't know what issues or bugs in a system will derail development and force a change to features.

It is typical gamer unreasonableness rearing its ugly head again. Gamers demand info but when they are told we have no info to give you that we can guarantee will make it in the game they are accused of hiding things and not communicating with their fans. So they then say okay this is what we have at this moment but please be aware this is SUBJECT to change. And when it does change gamers rage at being misled. How were they misled? They were told this was subject to change. where is the duplicity? No one was lied to, no one was deceived you were told the truth and given a glimpse of the game in an UNFINISHED state as it was at the time of that reveal.

Maybe gamers should stop blaming everyone else for their own failings. And yeah if you are told something is subject to change and you REFUSE to heed that warning then the gamer is to blame NOT the developer.

Why the heck are you so hostile, man? Calm down. I'm fine with them saying nothing until the game goes gold if it means an end to bullshots, misleading cinematic trailers, and years of fluff pieces on websites that do nothing but generate empty hype based on nothing but speculation. All I said was that I dislike way games are marketed and that I'd like to see them try a different approach because I feel there is a high degree of dishonesty in the way they are marketed and that it often ends up doing more harm than good in the long run; many games have ended up failing because they promised too much and delivered too little. Not sure why that's so controversial.

Personally, I believe nothing until the game hits gold and the reviews come out. I've seen too much dishonesty from this industry over too many years to take anything at face value.

Hope he doesn't see reason, I love laughing at him <3
