Katana's now do 2d8 damage?
I noticed recently that selling a random dropped katana earned me thousands.
Then I noticed the damage hike.
Is this due to a module I downloaded, NWN 1.71 or some other element?
Anyone know?

Sounds like a hak altering the 2da file defining the damage for every weapon.
Patch 1.71 does not alter base damage of any weapon, so, as MM said, the module probably uses a hak file that modifies it.
If that's not the case, then the second most likely explanation is that you have a modified baseitems.2da file in your override folder causing it.
Only appears to effect some modules? Also has a 15-20/x3 critical modifier?
First, make sure you are talking about the katana stats that show up when you examine the katana itself in-game. Not the stats that show up on the character sheet when you have a katana equipped. I think people are assuming you are talking about the former. The latter depends on character feats and other properties and can be more complicated to read, so clarify (and maybe post a screencap) if you are referring to that.

[Ignore the above. I forgot that the item description won't reflect 2DA changes without a talk file change.]
Start an unaltered campaign with no HAKs (like the OC) using a toon with exotic weapon proficiency and equip one of their katanas (spawn one from the console if no stores are near). If they are munchkinized with 2-16 base damage, then check your override folder. The default folder has very few files in it (something like 9 TGA files) and none of them are 2DA files. If you haven't done this in general, you will probably want to change the Windows folder settings so that it does not hide file extensions so that you can be sure what you are looking at.
If the katanas you see in a campaign with no HAKs are normal (e.g. 1d10 base damage, 19-20x2 crits, etc.), then it's most likely a HAK in your HAK folder. You can narrow down which one it is by checking which module you were playing when you saw the munchkin katanas and open that module in the Toolset. When the module is open, go to Edit -> Module Properties and go to the Custom Content tab. That will show which HAK files are loaded with the module. One of those HAKs likely has an altered baseitems.2da. If you post the module name where you are seeing this (and a link to it on the new vault would be helpful) someone can confirm what's going on.
[Edited for clarity]

Er...if you change Katanas from 1d10 to 2d8 via a 2da edit, the change will show up on the character sheet...but it won't show up on the examine page unless the tlk is also edited.
Oops. I forgot that that part of the item description isn't auto generated from the in-game data. Blargh!
Anyway, the test when playing an unaltered, no-HAK module is whether the base damage shown on the character sheet is 1-10. If it's showing 2-16, then there is likely a modified baseitems.2da file in the override folder. If the unusual damage range is only showing up in modules that use HAKs, then the list of HAK files will be in the Module Properties widget in the Toolset, as described above.
