Hi all,

I apologize for my English, but

I just read this twitt and to put it mildly, shocked. I can accept that the new story is about new characters, new conflicts and enemies, new times... But, after all, after all those hundreds of hours of saving the Galaxy, you want me to tell that we will not need even such basics of saves like gender of our Shepards just at least for having the right statue (even in a helmet) in the Next Mass Effect? Did I miss something? Maybe Shepard is not a man who saved the whole Galaxy? Yeah, he was just a soldier like any other, right.

Frankly, I was hoping to see some kind of memory-meseum, maybe with apportunity to go on Normandy tour, where would be people, aliens, children who are walking in this meseum, watching Shepard's items, ships collection, etc.

Like if you know Russian famous poet Pushkin? It's past more than 200 years after his death but you can still come and see his place of live, his items left on the right places, etc.

P.S. At least walk on a space station street near guns shop and hear Shepards advertise speech.

Hello we have been discussing this extensively over the past. Yes you are not the only one who thinks that a memorial, a codex entry, a comic series or some form of explanation must be made in order to show what "happens next OR AFTER THE REAPER WAR" but as we all know Bioware does not intend this to be. Many has claimed that MASS EFFECT 3 IS DONE, FINISHED, NO MORE SHEPARD NO MORE CONNECTION WHATSOEVER TO THE NEXT GAME PERIOD. NO SAVE IMPORTS, NO GARRUS, NO TALI LOVE LIFE, NO MEMORIAL FOR THE FALLEN, NO ASHLEY OR KAIDEN, NO LIARA, NO JACK, NO WREX OR GRUNT... ALL RECYCLE BIN.

This led me to speculate that the next game is an ALTERNATE UNIVERSE + REBOOT/RESTART Here is my thread : http://forum.bioware...eboot disguise

Another thread having the same question as yours can be found here: http://forum.bioware...flected-in-nme/

If ME Next want's to be Tabula Rasa then it doesn't need all the weight of previous games. I am agree with devs on that particular matter.

About that tweet: they said that for all ME games - "perfect place to jump into the series". Save imports were always optional but they were there if you wanted them. Could be the same for next ME but they just don't want to reveal anything yet.

The trilogy was a lost cause. I just want a new reboot so we can perhaps get a worthwhile Mass Effect story once again.

The reason I'm so convinced this could work well is... well look at the Zelda franchise for instance. Every game is essentially a reboot retelling the same story of a player character becoming a hero who saves the world but each focuses on a different theme and has a different vibe to it.

I just want NME to feel as magical (in the best sense) as Mass Effect 1

The same goes for Final Fantasy. But Final Fantasy and if I am wrong please correct me, Zelda has always been like that! That is their tradition always start something fresh anew! Bioware? Mass Effect? The tradition is continuity of story and save files.

Square Enix made a bold move in breaking their tradition i.e. different new FF titles are new and independent from the previous titles. They released FF X-II and FF XIII-II and FF XIII lightning returns now look what happened... Bioware is also doing the same mistake if they decide with a restart / reboot.

Current save import system is a mess, developers confirmed it themselves. And letting go of save files does not mean anything, a system like DA: Keep can still take care of those variables.

People panicking such a long time before the game actually comes out. Relax, a lot can and will still change, we can judge the game and whatever features they use when it's out.

If they want a fresh start, I'm all for it. People attached to Shep and his crew still have ME1-3 to play over and over

Plus each FF game of the old and Zelda game were finished stories within their own games. ME games were not. So we know what to expect roughly. Continuity is important.

It would be like if all the GTA games were as we know them and then they released GTA5 that was set in 16th century London or even just a fantasy world. Or if all the games we have played for the criminals and then for the GTA5 the only way to play it would be as police trying to catch them with all the rules and regulations, so no shootouts and no riding around caring nothing for civilian casualties.

Being able to import your Shepard so your statue can reflect him/her or maybe serve as the new Avina on the rebuilt Citadel is probably still an option. I'm sure some DLC will be Shepard fanservice.

I think the two things are at play here.

The first is the whole ending controversy. It was really bad publicity for Bioware, and was probably the only time where it faced outright hostility from it's fans. Dragon Age 2 had been a bit of disappointment, but the reaction was nowhere near the meltdown after Mass Effect 3 released. I would imagine that the company would want to avoid fanning any embers from the controversy with the next game, and that is hard to do if the next game is a direct sequel born from the finale of Mass effect 3.

The other is that the three diverging endings from Mass Effect 3 are very difficult to craft a single sequel from, even if there had been no fan backlash. They wrote themselves into a corner.

On that note I'm not surprised to hear that the next game will have little to no connection to the Shepard trilogy. There might be something to the Ark Theory speculation.

I think its more likely that after all this time they might have changed it, considering that they do read forums on occasion they might have sensed that people do like the idea of a sequel far better than anything else. Also I have read quite a few articles on quite a few gaming and non-gaming media about the reasons that BioWare needs to do a sequel rather than frak about with various other possibilities.

At least I hope they do. Because if they don't I think the game might end up as a dud, still earning them enough money but alienating the people who were there since 2007(or 2008 if you are on pc like me, or just loved the games quite a lot) even more.

I have mixed feelings about a direct sequel to ME3.

On the one hand it is the setting that most interests me by far. I'd love to have some familiar locations mixed in with the new, and see how the events of the Shepard trilogy, or Shepard's choices, impacted the galaxy. Assuming it fits with the timeline and doesn't require shoehorning, it might also be fun to run into a couple familiar faces from the previous three games.

On the other hand there a lot of potential pitfalls with crafting a direct sequel from Mass Effect 3, and a lot that could go wrong. Also some choices Bioware could make in going that route could seriously dampen my enthusiasm. This is entirely selfish of me I know..but while a canon Destroy sequel would interest me, a canon Synthesis sequel likely would not. And crafting a single sequel from those three diverging endings would require some details from those epilogues either being cut or significantly altered that so that the sequel would fit with all three endings. Whether or not I'd be purchasing a one way ticket on the hype train would depend on what got cut or altered.

I get the impression from what I have heard about the game that the events of next ME will be happening at the same time with Shepard's story and very far away so you probably won't see Shepard or hear from him/her at all or at least there won't be any museums dedicated to him/her. But it's also possible that you will meet your former crew members but if that requires data of your playthroughs then that can be handled using something similar like Dragon age keep. I also think it's possible that if the events of next ME are happening parallel to Shepards's story then it's also possible that the game after that will be happening after ME3. At least I'm hoping that there will be a ME game which events will be happening after ME3.

Tabula rasa=Latin for "Clean (or blank) Slate".

It means a fresh start.  No connection to past events.  A new story with none of the baggage from the old game.

Question to the OP. Why would you rather have a significantly inferior game with cosmetic references to your previous time in mass effect than a significantly better game that has no reference to your specific choices?

For me it's a philosophical question.

We live in a world of history, and how any real or fictitious has its own history. Krogan monument for Rahny War or stories about war of the first contact in ME world are seems were important for ME universe as important part of history inside the story. So, in my opinion, 12 labors of Shepard of saving the Galaxy is something very important for this ME Universe, it's something that impossible to forget for the species who live there.

At best we might get a DA Keep style system, but I don't expect it. They may not want to say reboot, but I have a feeling that's exactly what MENext is going to be.
