Bioware's quest for greater diversity & representation amongst the characters of their games has been something the Company has received a lot of praise for, form both fans & critics alike.

 

Sure their Protagonist's are diverse groups of people, but when you look at the Villain's of the series you notice that most of them are White Men & Women who are either Rich or in a position of power.     

 

(I know some of these characters might not fit the bill of "Evil Douche Bag" but for the sake of this argument they will be include as they caused some Fu!ked up sh!t & made the Hero's job more difficult)

Any reason why the the majority of their Baddies are White Men & Women? 

 

This tread is not to stir up trouble as I am genuinely curious. Is positive representation the only welcome kind? Are LGBT & POC Villain's just not done for fear of backlash? 

 

Discuss away BSN & if I left out any Baddies let me know.

I don't think there is a reason behind it. They just write the characters and they just all end up white.

 

Or maybe it's because of the setting. Maybe if they set it in Rivain or Antiva, then there may be more black and brown people showing up as villains.

I'm pretty sure we don't know half of the sexuality of those characters. By assuming they're all straight you are kinda showing your own biases towards heterosexuality being the norm.

Well, the majority of the villains are white because the majority of people in Thedas are white. Especially in Southern Thedas where the games have been set so far.

And play Jade Empire if you want to see Asian antagonists. Also the Archdemon and Reapers are not white.

Pretty sure Knight-Captain Denam was the Behemoth you fight in In Your Heart (if you went with the mages), so there's no real way to tell if he was white or not.  Also, you forgot Carroll (Emerald Graves).

 

As for why they're white, I'm pretty sure it has more to do with the fact that DA:O, DA2, and DA:I have been located in the southern nations (Free Marches, Ferelden, and Orlais).  If we were in Rivain or Antiva, there'd probably more of a mix in skin tone for the villains.

 

Because white is right.

If you side with the Templars, you meet a non transformed Knight Captain Denam, and judge him later at Skyhold. He's white. 

 

As for the OP, I can't think of any villain whose sexuality is confirmed. As for diversity, Bioware is always improving. Maybe they've been less apt to make villains people of color because that's already been played out in other media too much. Not sure.

Because if you make a people of different skin color or sexuality evil, then you will have social justice wankers complaining that portraying non white and non heterosexual people as evil is bad because it perpetuates a bad stereotype and that only straight white people, men should be villains.

I don't find some of people listened villains at all. Like Jowan, he doesn't stand against your character in anyway. And some of those you can make your enemies or then have alliance with them.
