I sure hope someone posts a silly "white people" meme in response.

there villians, of course theyre in power. Wouldn't be much of a threat if they werent

its based of medieval europe, so most people are white

a vast majority of people are cis,  and no trigender pyrofox is not a valid identity.

also this, to some extent

The villains in the series are all cis as far as we know. Despite what some people think, you cannot actually tell if a person is trans or not by looking at them. Medieval history is full of people 'passing' as the opposite sex (and who knows how many of them were never caught?)

There have only been two openly trans people in the whole series so far - three if you count Serendipity - so it's hardly surprising there hasn't been a major trans villain yet.

I think some of the roles were originally played by minorities but they were changed to white people to make them more relatable to the middle America like with Airbender, Ghost in a Shell, Dragon Balls, 21, etc.

What Thedas needs is a villain that defies labels.

Oh come on -- you are concerned about skin pigmentation? I think that some of you people just go out of your way to find stuff to complain about.

Please, exaggerate more.

"Do you know why there's so many white male characters in video games? Especially leads? Because no one cares about them."

That's the most idiotic thing I've read today. There are so many white male characters and leads because that's the demographic.

It's always amusing when white males try to turn it around and make themselves appear like the victims of injustice. Majority of these games are created by white males, so if any of what's being stated is true, it becomes even more laughable. Sure there are double standards, for both genders, but this argument above is just grasping at straws and a weak attempt at playing the victim.

way to miss the point entirely.  Not caring about a character means that that character doesn't stand for anything other than himself, he is not somehow representative of all males. However, for females/minorities they somehow are representative. Its the same logic that gets us

"killing men is GTA is fine, killing women means the game is misogynistic"

"Bayonetta is a sexist game because she is not a prude"

"lets ban doa female dlc costumes because they show too much skin."

So no, not everything is about who is the biggest victim. Not caring about male leads is liberating because they don't have to fall into a pre-approved set of behaviors.

Because we've been in the part of Thedas that's mostly dominated by them? If a future DA is set in Nevarra or Antiva I'm pretty sure we'll have a non-white villain.

Because what some people say in ignorance mean it's true?

You do understand that despite that dev's make game with pc which are non-white males. It's not about caring or not caring. It the same reason why most hollywood leads are white males.

Well... we all learned that it's not okay to walk around and kill black people in video games. Even for a good reason... like... when they're zombies. Someone remembers sjw when Resident Evil 5 came out?

Also sjw tought me that pigmentation at all is bad in video games. I remember the rage when you were able to have virtual sex with a blue(!) woman.

I'm a little irritated that I never read anything about Inquisitor romancing a grey guy. Must have been forgotten with all this 'rape talk' ;)

My point is (if I even got one) killing whitey's not near as bad as killing some-kind-of-pigmented. And we already got enough rage-talk going on here.

The "point" and the sentence I quoted are two entirely different things. The poster stated, black and white, plain as day, that white males are leads and make up majority of the characters in video games because of what you just stated above, which is completely false.

Their point and the "facts" they stated in their post =/=

Evil characters MUST be in a position of power because otherwise they would have no influence, and therefore it would be absurd to fight against their evil doing. This should be pretty obvious for anyone who ever read, watched or played a fantasy or sc-fi story.

Most Dragon Age characters are white, this is because Ferelden is based on medieval England and Orlais is based on renaissance France. In other franchises, evil characters have all kinds of colors (see Mass Effect).

Male+vs+female+game+characters+the+diffe

White, straight men are the norm in every narrative. This means you always have so many of them that you can write them with as many different personalities as you want, and none of them will represent the gener or race or sexual tendency as a whole. On the contrary, women or people from other ethnicities are the exception, even in fiction. So when you put one of them in a story, it's much easier for them to appear as a representation of the whole.

In Bioware games, though, since there are so many different female characters, this doesn't happen with the gender (while aliens and fantasy races completely change the ethnicity map). You have a lot of different female allies (Liara, Tali, Morrigna, Leliana...) and also several female villains (Meredith, Matriarch Benezia, Flemeth in DA:O...). So none of them represent women as a whole.

Of course, if all stories had as much variety of female characters as they have male characters, you could have your female protagonist in Monkey Island and it would be perfectly ok. But this is far from being the case. In most adventure games and movies you have a more or less obvious case of "smurfette principle", where one female character is surrounded by a large cast of male characters, and therefore ends up representing her whole gender, because that's her only identifiable trait.
