Not to crush any spirits, but the listing mentions this:

- Learn and master a proprietary game engine effects pipeline.

Which implies the project is unlikely to be an Unreal Engine game. That is to say, you can reasonably exclude Mass Effect

EDIT: I see someone else has brought this up earlier. Still, worth keeping mind.

Shinobi (usual caveat that they're not always accurate :P) said on Twitter that the chances for an ME remaster on new consoles is not looking good. It was a 50/50 prospect before but looks less likely now.

Of course they do. They did their market research and calculated the cost of a proper remaster. It's probably not worth doing.

One Reason might be the ending of ME3. They don't want to open that can of worms again.

So all other big publishers are wrong and EA is right lol? Me not think so, their loss though, as always they're late

The two other big publishers haven't released a single remaster. TLOU and GTA are special cases because they released only a few months before the new consoles. The Halo MCC definitely cost way more than it brought in. Remember, Blur charges 1 million USD per minute. That's 50 million USD just for the Halo 2 cutscenes.

The ME games are an incoherent mess and need a lot of work. A simple upscale wouldn't be enough.

God of War Collections, Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, DmC DE, Sleeping Dogs DE, Assassin's Creed Liberation HD, Ico/Shadow of Colossus Collection, MGS Collection etc etc sold millions/hundred thousands and in some cases are the only reasons the games are no longer considered "failures" by their publisher as remaster sales helped recoup smaller-than-expected sales previously or squeeze more money of what would normally be 'closed' window of biggest sales/profits. Music industry does it as well with repacked albums to propell new sales, as movie industry does with 3D. It's new money with little new investement

The problem is - as InterrogationBear says - that a ME remaster would require more than a little new investment.  The commerical and critical failures of the Sleeping Dogs and Saints Row IV remasters shows that even with recent games, poor optimization for new platforms is going to make the customer feel cheated.  With a studio as small as Bioware, and a series that is almost a decade old, the cost (in both time and money) of a remaster would be better served in a new game.

Bioware is not a small studio and its backed by one of the largest publishers in the world. Just no. You're trying to convince me all other publishers who do remasters are losing money and EA is the genious that doesn't? This company was losing money for 5 years straight and only recenty finally managed to have profitable year. I'm not inclined to think "EA knows better"

Perhaps a better way of putting it would be "a small fish in a big pond".  EA has a lot of resources, sure, but it also has a lot of projects to share them among and, within Bioware itself, there are 3 separate projects we know of in development, all requiring resources, even before any remasters are considered.

Not all remasters are failures, but the ones that have succeeded (GTA V, TLOU and Tomb Raider) have been developed close enough to the change of generations so that they could be developed as cross-platform projects, were worked on by the original devs and not an outside contractor, and were released relatively soon after their original versions.  They did not require the amount of work on their basic systems as the ME games would, so development could focus entirely on new features and optimization for new platforms.

This means even if it gets Remastered, the Remastering process hasn't begun yet. We'd probably be looking at early 2016 for it.

Tomb Raider remster was mostly pulled by Nixxes and Bioware already used outside contractors succesfully with ports (ME1 on PS3 and ME3 on WiiU). It all breaks down to how good the team is. It's been years since they worked on ME1, many people are not even at Bioware anymore and techniques changed. Not sure if having "original Bioware" do the remasters themselves would that big of a difference compared to competent outside company. Not to mention that many of those outsourced contractors specialize in ports and overcoing tech obstacles. PS3 Mass Effect 1 works better than Xbox 360 version actually so

It took them years to recreate Dragon Age Inquisition in Frostbite, why on earth would they try to do the same thing for three Mass Effect games? There's no way they'd be rebuilding the games in a completely new engine.

Why would they even use UE4, instead of just using the same engine but with higher-resolution textures and more detailed objects?

They = Bioware? Bluepoint?

Why? Because REASONS!!!!!!

Its good to hear God of War 3 will get a remaster. I like Krato's. Good guy

I'm also a big fan of Uncharted and would not be surprised if the 3 games get remastered.

I like for the ME trilogy to get a remaster, if not I won't lose any sleep.

Either way, its a win, win for me with the remastering stuff

I am tired of switching between 360 and xbone to game. It would be nice to just play it on the xbone. Plus not sure how much more shiny and new they could make it look but these games are my go to re-playable games. I would buy them again just to have them on the xbone; definitely.

If you listen to the music during the first part of the announce trailer, you can hear the ending theme from Mass Effect 2: Overlord DLC.

Kicks in at 0:22

I hope they keep the original ME1 gameplay and add less sultry casual wear for Shepard

Sigh!

My Xbox One could really use a good single player sci-fi game.

Tbh, if it were me, I'd definitely remaster the trilogy and put it out there for the new/current gens. There's not alot on the offer as it is. It's slowly building, but people are actively looking for "new" games to add to their library. In addition to just wanting to hold on to some of their favorite games.

I would think you'd have a great chance of attracting new players that may have overlooked the ME series before because there was so much else. But now with so few offerings, people will be more likely to notice it and decide to give it a try.

It seems to me like it would be a good way to pull in new customers, as well as get some old fans back into the series. And a great build up to ME4.

Well, maybe they can re-master the endings.  I might even get the remastered trilogy if they did.  I certainly would not get the remastered trilogy if I had to MEHEM it all over.
