I actually feel just the opposite. I love Cullen's romance and compared to... say... Dorian's, has much more depth, especially if playing as a mage. Don't get me wrong, I love Dorian's romance, as well but just find Cullen's much more satisfying. Of course, we all have different taste, so...
I like Solas romance the most even though there is less romantic content in that when comparing to other romances.

It all depends on your perspective....
Dunno if I'd really call it "bloody". There are a few very graphic scenes, but overall, it tends not to be that gratuitous. It's very dark and psychological though. One of the best dystopian/cyberpunk stories I've come across. At least it was before S2....
Queen's Blade, if that is what you're thinking of, is an anime involving a large amount of plot....
I love the psychological stuff as well, better yet, sometimes I prefer it. Life isn't all about blood and boobies...
I wasn't that impressed with Queens Blade, even for a fanservice driven show. Stuff like Sekirei, Freezing and IS, and, dare I say it, even High School DxD manage to mix plot and "plot" much better IMO.
High School DxD looks interesting, but stupid at the same time. ![]()
I dig the whole occult thing.. I would watch but I can only get a hold of the second season on "Videos unlimited" (PS4 app).. I suppose I could watch it online though, if I was really curious.

LMAO...
Human nature.
It is very stupid. But it's fun if you're in the mood for turning your brain off (and turning other parts of your anatomy on....) ![]()

eh? I'm not complaining about Cullen romance, actually he is my preferred romance in DAI, but in the matter of quantity (not quality) it doesn't has much content, for the most part it piggy-rides on the back of non-romance content.

LOL.
I know what you mean... I experience this with Battle Vixens.. then, during the odd chance that something serious and story-related occurs, I'm like, "Wait, wot?"
Then have to rewind... ![]()

Josephine is more like Traynor than Chambers, there's a similar feel in that they basically stay on the ship/Skyhold for most of the game, even Josie's time at the palace is limited in content and they don't really have interactions with many of the other characters that you see making them seem less present in a way. I like Josephine but I felt like a lot of the time I could have missed her easily in Skyhold if she wasn't in my path to the war room. She feels like she needed more development though that could be a pacing issue with the game too, which I think has a big impact on the way some romances feel compared to others.
If you feel Josephine doesn't count does that mean you also think lesbians only got one option?
Yes. Didn´t think about it but now when you say it, yes. She is very static character, and the interaction holds little content with her. Thus I referred to Chambers. I know I was one of the people speaking of LI´s outside team but I was expecting much more fleshed out LI option, with deeper character arc and more interaction. Yes, she had some minor content ouside skyhold, two dialogs and little duel (which was too see only), those were just meh material. She doesn´t even move in the skyhold, for once it would have been nice if LI´s would seek out the pc for reasons. Not in a way that you go to click her/him, but like ME, go to your room up in tower and bam. She comes with issues. More than once, would have made them (and I mean all of them too) more live.
Well, I just hope we get more romance type content in future DLC's. Not a romance DLC but just some character's LI specific content added into normal DLC.
This is why I'm thankful that my love is a companion and not an advisor.
oh I don't mind that, I wouldn't mind though if romance was not handled as quest for sex.
One thing I liked about Cullen is that he is worried about IQ before the final battle, there should be more things like that. What I miss from Alistair's romance is that it went beyond "lets bang", you had the ritual which carried certain implications, the whole king thing, it wasn't terribly evolved but it was something that was pushing the relationship further, fleshed it out more.
Why did they have to put Dorian on the other side of fence, not that I mind any kind of homosexuality as I have two wonder man friends, but Dorian looks like my husband! Minus the stash! Lol

Yeah.
I see what you mean.
In fact, this is what I loved about romancing Isabela in DA:2.
Starts off as "let's bang" but it goes a lot deeper... especially when you have to duel the arishok to save her arse.
I dunno, as you well know I'm attracted to women with issues and like to be a "knight in shining armour" LMAO.. so I guess that aspect of the romance really did it for me... then when Leandra dies, she's there for you, in her own way...
I missed this with the Sera romance. Sera was just too perfect.. unrealistic perfect. Not complaining though, at least she's loyal and sticks around. ![]()
I have to admit, I still think Bioware's best romances, in terms of being deep, believable relationships, were way back in BG2.

I haven't tried romancing Solas with male PC but I have heard that it's better that romancing him with female PC.

I'm sorry. I'm lost. Are you implying that I didn't get your joke or that you didn't get mine?

Both.
Both.
I get that you were joking.

You actually kinda had to work at some of those, which is a no-go for modern audiences. Anyone remember the minefield that was the Viconia romance?
If Bull was devout Qunari he would not romance IQ, especially a mage IQ, the female warrior IQ might have ended up in kitchens but the mage definitely in chains (and I do not mean it as a part of a bdsm scene.)
I always felt like Bull was away from the Qun for so long that his feelings changed about it and he didn't even realize it. He was out there in the world away from it and got to experience other cultures and ideas. And then when it was removed from him via saving the chargers all of those doubts and whatnot came crashing back. But I think by this time he is who he is and doesn't need the Qun to be who he is. It just took losing it for me to come to that realization.
I had my elfy mage romance him. They were very cute together. She was this tiny petite purple eyed thing and he was well. The Iron Bull.

Hah, yeah, IIRC, you had to refuse sex and just snuggle with her instead at one point or she broke it off.
Actually, wasn't "lets have sex" the wrong option somewhere in Aerie's romance too?

Yeah, I sort of see it like this too.
Ohhhh that's a can of worms (media + women) since the media is what divides us. I don't agree with Sarah Palin's politics at all BUT the way that women look the other way when misogynistic rants are hurled her way BECAUSE it is Sarah Palin I have to say I lose a lot of faith in the media and our reception of the message being translated.
Bill Maher called her the C-Word and women were all **crickets chirping** imagine if Herman Caine (a Republican) were called the N-word on national TV by Maher--do you think blacks would stand for it?
No.
Women heroes are awesome, totes. I'm glad we have them but not because it spreads a message because quite frankly no video game in the world will compete with Beyonce and Katy Perry riding the pole and being male spank spots and then slapping a label of "empowerment" on it.
Obviously, riding the pole is more empowering than leading the work on radioactivity or being a female astronaut or being a female fighter pilot. Sorry sensitive subject for me.
That don't really invalidate my point. Video games are a form of media and the more representation groups have in all forms of media the better. That way one member of that group would no longer be considering their representative.
When a women is in the public forum, people often react like everything they do represents women. Beyonce shakes her ass, and everyone is like 'what does this say to young women?' Meanwhile Kanye West is a giant douchebag and no one is asking 'what does this say to young men' because no one thinks Kanye represents anyone but himself.
That is the problem with under representation, any public person from an underrepresented group is put up on a pedestal and told they represent all their group now.
They already are. You order them all around the field in combat.
That's kind of a poor comparison because Elder Scrolls has never included companions before. You've always been a lone wolf. They were rushing to get open world out. Their audience is not the same as Bioware so they don't write for that audience.
Ordering your companions in combat doesn't make them a puppet, it makes them members of your party. If they had no personality then they would be a puppet, but since BioWare companions have a personality, opinions and desires of their own, then ordering them around in combat, is more akin to a squad leader & their squad in an army then a puppet master and their puppets.
Well, it's not like they would get what they wanted even if they asked for it. The attitude of Bioware's DA teams isn't very sympathetic to straight gamers. I love Bioware products (Dragon Age: Origins is up there with Skyrim for my favorite game ever) but I'm not going to sit back and pretend that they don't see that their financial bread is buttered on women and the GLBT community.
I've read the interviews where they basically say "Straight gamers are whiners." Look, they give straight guys the same options are gay guys, as lesbians, et al in numbers. BUT they don't think about what a straight guy wants when designing characters. Now, people can say that beauty is subjective out of one side of their mouth and then complain with the other that their bf hates short hair on women or fight with the guys who complain about short hair on women, etc. and ignore that MOST guys want a chick with hair.
The fact is they made a handsome woman in Cassandra. She's a handsome woman with a somewhat male anima that takes a refined taste to appreciate. I love Cassandra. Straight and gay women love Cassandra because she is someone we can look up to. That doesn't mean a straight guy wants to bang her.
Like there is a reason why the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition sells more than any of their other issues, ya know?
IF i were Bioware, a for-profit company I would keep doing what I'm doing. Women will still buy the game, the GLBT community will still buy the game, and straight guys who are more "enlightened" will still buy the game. They will eventually lose the crowd that just wants to slash somethings or the crowd that wants to sex up the buxom beauty, but they have a loyal fanbase.
Let's just not pretend that Bioware cares about the straight male gamer as much as it cares about you, me, and the people in the gay KISA thread. There's nothing wrong with admitting that they have a target audience.
That is just good business practice. Know your customers and deliver what it wants.
This whole statement makes one huge assumption, that BioWare designs characters with the idea that they will be LIs rather than designing characters and THEN deciding which ones will be LIs.
BioWare always seem to have designed characters first and the decided on the LIs, if they didn't then I'm sure Vivienne would've been an LI.
BioWare don't sit in a room and say 'will straight men or gay women or whoever, fancy this character?' They just want to design good characters.
Cassandra had short hair in DA2, this is how she was originally designed, to suddenly give her long hair for DA:I would've been compromising her character to attempt to appeal to male gamers.
Besides, Cassandra interrogating Varric and the formation of the new Inquisition happen within a very short period of time. At the start of DA:I Cassandra is bringing Varric to speak to the Divine, just after she visited Kirkwall, so how fast do you think her hair can grow?
BioWare designed Cassandra and then said 'let's make her an LI' not the other way around.
This is how is should be, no character should be designed as an LI for a specific demographic, they should be created as a character in their own right first.
Life isn't all about blood and boobies...
You sure about that...?

Anyway, back on topic, as a straight male I had two options and I found that both were great.
What if didn't like them? I don't know, because, in fact, BioWare never failed to me when it comes to romance options (Morrigan, Isabela, Cassandra, Liara/Miranda/Jack, all of theme were awesome).
Probably I would have tried to romance someone else with a female character, who knows.
Still, I don't think this is a reason of complaint, for these two reason:
1) because an RPG isn't all about romance (though it has a great importance, at least for the way I roleplay);
2) because if you didn't like neither of the two options for straight males, well, the problem is you.
Yes, maybe it's just you.
