So if given the chance you wouldn't romance Varric?
No. I'm actually one of the few who don't really love him. Or Garrus.
I have no soul.

Short hair/=feminine=masculine=manly=man
It's the transitive property of hairstyles if you didn't know. It also works in reverse, I must admit, I have the reverse bias. It's one of the primary reasons I couldn't romance either Fenris or Anders (that ponytail...thing still gives me chills)
It's not that. There are plenty guys who freak out when their gf decides to cut hair short, it's a bit creepy.
Different preferences are a wonderful thing
I (a straight white european dude) find Cullen (the DAI version) to be the most handsome. Probably only Alistair from other DA games would top him.
Oh my LAWD...the double entendre...

but the question is why is it creepy. The answer (if they're remotely honest) is because it makes the girl look more like a boy.

Oh myyy...
It sounded way less dirty when I was typing it... ![]()
I know, right? I mean, look at this manly dudebro and his short hair!
I thought she looked better with longer hair

I think we need to move beyond feminine=woman and masculine=man
There are plenty of men who look or dress in a way that could be described as feminine (longer hair, skinny jeans, tight t-shirts) and plenty of women who look or dress in a way that could be described as masculine (short hair, suits)
Both of these styles can look really good depending on who is wearing them.
It's all about finding a style that works for your body & facial features.
No. I'm actually one of the few who don't really love him. Or Garrus.

Oh wow. Wow. I thought Varric love was universal, like the only real thing worth believing in in this screwed up world.
I thought she looked better with longer hair
Ehh, I think Robin Wright looks better now (especially when she had her hair dyed dark in season 3 of House of Cards) than she did in, say, Forrest Gump. But that's the earliest movie of hers I've seen. I don't know how she looked pre-1994.

Yes, many people do dress in gender nonconforming ways, and I have no qualm with them. You do you boo boo.
I just don't have to be attracted to them.

OMG!
I wondered why Claire looked so familiar, did not even release she was Buttercup until now.
Love the Princess Bride, I could watch that film over & over ![]()

It's just the fact that the game presents him as Hawke's BESTEST BRO EVAH!!!111!!
same thing with Garrus. I don't like being told who my friends are, especially in games where I can choose my relationships with practically everyone else.

Or we just maybe accept that we all have different tastes and let that be it? I agree that its about finding a style that works for you and your body/facial features, but that's all about pleasing yourself. Not everyone is going to agree and that's okay.
We don't all need to be attractive to everyone.
Michelle Williams I think looks much better with shorter hair.

Some won't agree and that's okay. I think Violet Chatchki the drag queen is femmy and impossibly hot, all of my girlfriends think I'm nuts.

I like them as friends, but romancing them? No, thanks.

So then if you don't like the longer hair you like maybe Alastair and Dorian's look or is Dorian too hipster? I think they're hot, too. I like a guy with some hair, but short hair is good as well.

I'm not saying you have to be attracted to them. Each of us is attracted to different things, personally I'm not attracted to clean shaven guys, I live heavy stubble, or neat beards and mustaches. I'd never try to force someone to be attracted to facial hair.
What I'm saying is that it would be nice if we could stop associated certain looks with particular genders.

that's her in high school.

I "agree" with this, but then you'll offend a lot of transsexuals. I said once that gender is a construct and changes with the era and was told later by a MTF coworker that I had offended her and that it was easy for me to say as a ciswoman that genders don't have a "look" since she was trying hard to look like "me".
Or we just maybe accept that we all have different tastes and let that be it? I agree that its about finding a style that works for you and your body/facial features, but that's all about pleasing yourself. Not everyone is going to agree and that's okay.

Different tastes is perfectly fine, I never said they weren't
I just think it would be nice to not associate certain styles with particular genders. then maybe more people would be willing to experiment with their style and find something they really like.
Well, since we're on the topic of women with short hair, I think Elly Jackson (La Roux) is quite fine.

Speaking of La Roux, she is probably the only pop act I can stand to listen to and like.
I think Rihanna is hotter with short hair. Some women can rock it, others can't. It depends on your face and body.
So then if you don't like the longer hair you like maybe Alastair and Dorian's look or is Dorian too hipster? I think they're hot, too. I like a guy with some hair, but short hair is good as well.
They are both attractive, though Dorian's mustache is a bit much. I prefer more (KISA thread help me) masculine looking men. Though I would totes be done if Dorian had a soul patch.
but the question is why is it creepy. The answer (if they're remotely honest) is because it makes the girl look more like a boy.
Just the hair, really? I don't know.... I'm slim but I have an hourglass figure. When I was little I could easily pass as a boy, now? no way. Plus I dress "girly" since I happen to prefer heels and skirts when the occasion permits it. So when a guy tells me "don't you dare to cut your hair" when I mention that I used to have it short in a conversation, I typically think he has control issues and a number of stereotypical ideas I don't care for. It's a bit different when the guy actually likes my long hair.

Gender is not a construct but how people of certain genders behave or dress is, even the hobbies they should have or the jobs they should have.
That is what changes.
I'd love to get a trans persons input on this because to me how a person dresses might indicate their gender but it doesn't determine it. My boyfriend sometimes wears a black kilt and I basically live in jeans & t-shirts.
Though I can see how wearing certain clothes would make it much easier for a trans person to tell the world what gender they are without actually having to say anything.
This however is more a trans person adapting to societies expectation of them and their gender then anything else.
So does his quest ALWAYS come after that point? Like there's no way to speed up of prolong the questline?
Yes, it always does. Bioware could have done it more tactfully.
but the question is why is it creepy. The answer (if they're remotely honest) is because it makes the girl look more like a boy.
Sure, 'short hair in general' it could just be a preference, but not in the numbers I see. Its far to common of a perception, to be mere preference in general.
Pesonally, I prefer guys with longer hair...which weird's them out. ![]()
