The thing that annoys me most about these discussions is this premise (bolded by me in your post). I'm going to state the obvious now. A larger group of people needs more resources than a smaller group because, well, there are more of them. And in real life there are more straight men than gay men so if every straight man is going to find a partner there have to be more straight women than gay men.
But, and this is the part that strangely seems to escape some people, you do not play DAI as a group, you play it as an individual. Therefore your straight male character needs exactly the same number of LIs as a character of any other orientation. Every straight guy who plays DAI has the same number of LIs for his straight guy PC as the gay guy's gay guy PC. While I really don't like using the word fair (as it's often abused and very imprecise) this seems perfectly fair.
If you want more LIs because you happen to be in a majority group its like saying that you should be paid more than a gay man because there are more straight men, which, if true, would make you a horrible person.
All the more reason to make it playersexual because individuals spend $60 on a game where they are told of the 8-9 possible romances you, the individual, are allowed only 2. That means that you don't get the full value for the game you just bought like you would if it were playersexual like they did with DA2.
They have the ability to put time into romance coding if they remove all the bear coding, fetch quest coding, and stupid shard coding.
They already have the ability to change the pronoun because they do it with the bisexual characters, so let's not pretend this is hard work on their part. It also doesn't ruin the story for you to know that a gay guy also gets Cullen or a Lesbian also gets Morrigan because they don't exist in your game. In your game you are _______________ and your romance option is whatever you are.
If we are "all just people" and as Macklemore says, it's the "same love" then it shouldn't frickin' matter if they wrote the character specifically for _____________ or not because the romance should be the same--if we are all truly the same (which I believe).
