Now knowing MASS EFFECT 4 will be set during Shepherd's lifetime but with a new hero and crew, what story would you like them to tell?

Plot twist: We're playing as "The kid" in an alternate storyline set during ME3 after he disappears from the vent in the prologue,in which he forms his own crew and ship and goes off to explore the galaxy while Shepard fights the Reapers.

Also,OP,could you give me some source?

What is so bad about a prequel? There are so many cool stories to tell like the first contact war or the Geth taking over Rannoch. Sure I would love a sequel as much as the next guy but at least one prequel could be interesting.

The First Contact War was a minor engangement that had about 600 casualties. There is nothing much to tell other than the war ended due to the intervention of the council.  It won't make a good game IMO.

Taking place in Morning war would exclude humans as a playable race and it's safe to say that next Mass Effect will probably have humans as a playable race. Most likely, humans will be the only playable race.

Between humans becoming a part of the galactic community and the Reaper war, there aren't many interesting events to make a prequel.

No, but there's enough time to make interesting events.

A new story set before the invasion on a smaller scale with tight-knit character focus. Saving the galaxy didn't exactly pan out for Bioware they should stick with what they're good at- characters.

I don't like prequels because I know more or less what will happen in the story and I believe that there can't be that many surprises either because if something big would have happened then Shepard would have probably heard about it.

Sure there were few casualties but that doesn't mean it can't be a good story. How about Mass Effect: Evolution? That story revolved somewhat around the first contact war. It was a prequel and was very exciting. What about Mass Effect: Foundation? Prequel. Still good. So many people have negative connotations towards prequels after Star Wars but I think prequels could open up new stories. I'm saying a full game but maybe a DLC?

Still I would prefer that the next game take place in the future and would like to see our choices affect that future and I would like to see the galaxies fate.

You mean like how our choices affected this game?

Please. They do a game set after ME3 and even your choice of color won't matter. They won't even let us have that.

Hey a gut can hope right? Besides I trust Bioware to produce something good.

I'm just gonna have to leave it to peer review.  When the games come out, I'll need some strong convincing from a consensus of players that it's worth it.

I can't possibly get invested in another ME game like I got invested in the trilogy without knowing there's going to be a payoff at the end.  I cared so much and then was left feeling like I wasted my time.  That's a terrible condemnation for a video game series.

I hope they go Final Fantasy style and just have it be a "different" universe with all the same aliens. We could even hear a background event about an insane N7 marine's cult claiming s/he's a human specter that died and came back and must stop an evil synthetic invasion.

If they actually do make ME4 during Sheperds lifetime......where in *that lifetime* will ME4 be focused on? His time after being found alive after ME3 with his romantic interest ?(Tali hands down :) ) Will he have kid(s) with that love interest? Will Jack beat the living crap out of him for not romancing her? Will Zaeed stomp on Darner Vosque's throat for messing up a misson? Or will Aria T'Loak rip his jewels off and shove them down his throat for staring at her chest again? :)
