I've pretty much been exclusively playing the main game ever since release day, but other than a couple of logins just to sample multiplayer, I had not spent any time here until this weekend.

I played a lot on Saturday and Sunday and briefly on Friday. Other than the three available characters, I've managed to unlock all but two (Alchemist and Necromancer still elude me).

I leveled a Katari up to 15, a Keeper up to 13, a Hunter to 9 and an Archer to 7 (give or take). The rest still sit at either 1 or 2 awaiting their turn at bat. I enjoyed the games areas, and at least the first and second difficulties, although I've not tried Perilous at this point.

Good decision OP. I have the devil my little finger a while back and not touching single player anymore.

I was actually posting this while at work and got interrupted; sorry!

Of the characters that I unlocked I almost prefer the ranged ones, in order to give me distance to attack, but there is some joy to be had in letting the Katari smash the living hell out of enemies with The Whale, although once I got the Refined Hossberg Twainer, I switched to the lvl 21 weapon.

I did notice a tendency on the part of some of the folks I played with to be in it for themselves, and really there is no need for that in public games when you can set a solo run for yourself? Anyone have an explanation for why some people do this?

It's always nice to see new players because the community is incredibly small.

Don't mind them, in the end XP and gold is shared anyhow.

How do you mean? Are you talking about people trying to speed run through the match and ignoring everyone else who wants to unlock treasure rooms? Are you talking about people trying to kill everything ASAP and seemingly not letting others contribute to killing? Are you talking about people not reviving teammates?

Honestly asking since "in it for themselves" could mean a lot of different things, some of which may be justifiably perceived and some of which may look selfish but really isn't.

While a highly effective char doing all the work for you makes it easy I'm in the game for fun and looking at someone else play ain't fun.

Today played a run as Reaver with Legionnaire and Assassin. Having a group of only melee whackers was really fun.

The Refined Hossberg Twainer is a great Greataxe, only 5% dps away from the best Greataxe, the Slayer

(which I'm sure you'll pick up in about 1,000 chests or so  :D )

Mauls are interesting weapons, but for me are the least easy to wield as they are so directional and rather slow.

I'm running the maul Sundering on my Katari to get the Maul challenge, but then that will be it for mauls I think.

I'm packing a Slayer with just two promotions behind me.
Also Perseverance as bow, Lady Jodacastas(?) Revenge as dagger and for staves Pyre of the Forgotten and Mindleech(?) Staff.
For single handed sword I have some 145 DPS Blue I can't remember the name of.

As for accessories I'm not that lucky. My best one is 30% sundering ring.

Has to be Mindchill. Mindleech is useless.

Quite a bit of everything that you mentioned.

I didn't get angry about it, because this was my first real participation and I can just ignore those types ongoing. Another tactic that I found a bit peculiar was a predilection on the part of some gamers to bottle themselves up in the final stage at the entry point once the flag had been planted? Sometimes that helped whittle down waves of enemies coming to you, but it also dramatically allowed some area effect attacks to wipeout our party on a couple of occasions.

My Xbox One gt's are ContraryCube30 & AboundedOrc0. (Most of my multiplayer time was on the first of these.)

Zone 5 can go off the rails quickly if you don't manage the enemies, thus the room is used to funnel them in where you can CC/AOE the door. You'll fight in there many many times so get used to it.

As for people rushing ahead to solo, it'll happen a lot. Easiest thing to do is just find a different lobby after the game ends; find a lobby with people with a similar game play style.

I think mauls work better on the reaver rather than the katari, because you can just use dragon rage to not have to deal with the slow maul animations.

The intent is to use the door to cut off enemy Line of Sight preventing them from having an effective range attack on you while your team drops any Area of Effect abilities at the door way forcing all enemies to run a gauntlet to get to you.

It can be highly effective for an under equipped team to prevent themselves from being overwhelmed or separated and conquered.

If your team is clustering themselves there though, that could be bad unless there's a Keeper maintaining constant barriers.

I will agree with the speed-running being annoying. It may be more efficient in the long-run, but I much prefer to have the adventure of treasure room hunting. I usually just go with the flow of what the others in the lobby want to do and if I get pulled through a speed run, I'll just find another lobby afterwards. Different strokes for different folks.

Not reviving is not cool, but that'll always be a mixed bag. And sometimes, you can miss seeing someone in the heat of things. I missed someone yesterday because they were right near some bushes and I was so focused on the Druffalo... I felt bad afterwards because they were obviously angry at me (I had been the closest to them and didn't revive them) and kept shooting me with arrows right afterwards, and I rightfully deserved it. But I hadn't ignored them on purpose, I just was flat-out too zoned in on the thing I was shooting. So, may not always be an intentional snub.

As far as stuff getting killed really fast, since you just started I assume you don't have a lot of good weapons unlocked yet. It'll take time, but as your weapons get better, you'll be able to kill faster. It's sometimes hard for others to reign it in, especially if they're rushing through a new set of promotions or whatnot.

That Wave 5 tactic is one I do see a lot. Sometimes, it works out pretty okay. Other times - like when the room gets invaded by the Demon Commander or Red Templar Commander - it turns into a killing field. It's a mixed bag whether you get a group that's savvy enough to realize this and vacate.

Oh, once I realized what I had done - or, rather, hadn't done - I felt awful. I usually run to catch revives. Heck, I was wearing the 100 or 250 or whatever number it is "Revive Banner" in the damn lobby (irony much?). And I go and get so tunnel-visioned that I miss the person literally inches away from me. The Elementalist came running from a mile away to revive him, which was about the time I noticed something amiss since someone suddenly ran into my field of vision. I absolutely looked like a total douchecanoe from his point-of-view, no argument.

I deserved every single arrow in the butt that he shot at me afterwards. He then proceeded to not die ever again so I couldn't do a make-up revive and then he left the lobby afterwards, so no chance for atonement. I'm a terrible person. :( A little worse was that I top-scored, so obviously it looked like I was score-ho'ing, but that really wasn't the case. I just wanted to kill the Druffalo ASAP for the community goal and so it wouldn't stampede everyone.

The arrow-shooting was kinda funny though, in hindsight, considering he didn't have a mic to curse at me apparently. I suppose I should feel lucky that I didn't receive an angry message, although I'd have sincerely apologized back. I don't usually lose focus like that but... eh. I am human. I oopsied.

Well you were dealing with a charging duffalo, no need to be a salty bee dead archer. Also why didn't that person use leaping shot to avoid certain death? Git gud. :P

Weaker speed runners don't hit treasure rooms simultaneously.

With a strong team, realistically only one 1-2 people need to hit pots and rooms, and 1-2 people clear (yes sometimes this means a strong team = 2 people). Lately we've been doing speed clear and room runs. A hunter or assassin for example can easily enter a treasure room and take it out solo while the rest of the players clear, or they can call for help from 1-2 players while the rest clear. Etc.

Re: Two-handed weapons

Highest Base damage weapon is best, which usually means mauls, but Axe of the Dragon Hunter (unique) is the best Great Axe, not Slayer. Look it up if you're not familiar, but so much crit chance and bonus damage per enemy within 8 meters.

you'll find a lot of controversy about treasure room doors. It seems there are two polar extremes: those who don't want to open any door, and those who want to open every door and smash every pot.

Like everything else, a good balance is required. A lot of doors contain "freebies", monster-free rooms. These should almost always be hit, as they're really fast, accessable, and risk-free. The rest of them will be dictated by majority group decision. You'll quickly learn which doors are freebies and which aren't.

Just don't get mad and try to loot a treasure room without backup, as a brand new player--at least not on harder difficulties. You might end up dying and release a bunch of mobs into the fold and you won't make friends that way.
