The one bear we were able to summon in DAO was pretty weak though
But seeing how much power the bears have absorbed over all those years... if he were to return in DAI, he would be undefeatable.

Spawn algorithm in general is very flawed, there is absolutely no attempt whatsoever in concealing them for the sake of some basic immersion.
I haven't played Shadow of Mordor for a while but one I thing I do recall is that even though there were always tons of Orcs about, I never saw one actually materialize at any time.
Having enemies literally spawn on your head (had that happen) in DAI is kinda just... not good.

It's terrible when you run into a bear in the Hinterlands at a low level. And then you get ambushed by Lyrium smugglers, and then another bear shows up to help murder you, and you realize that this area is for when you're twice your current level, and you run (actually, walk briskly, as the Inquisitor&Co. don't know how to run) back to the camp, only to have your last bit of health snuffed out by the beast that followed you all the way there.
Wish there were more Great Bears though, I love their black leather.

Especially if it came with the Lyrium smugglers, the mabari, bandits and the 2nd bear. Of course, then the problem of the AI...

Yeah, but luckily Leliana can fetch 6 of them for you every 10 mins

I actually find bears pretty easy since they're all vulnerable to sleep. My two Full Draw archers just take turns using bears as target practice while my tank literally runs circles around them.
They do suck when they spawn with those stealthy prowler guys though. Bear tanks while prowler sneaky-stabs all your archers and mages to death in the span of like 20 seconds.

Never had issues with bears. Stick my tank on 'em and keep guard/barrier up and everything is fine. I did get rushed by the 3 great bears in the Hinterlands, but that was one of my favorite fights so far. To be honest, the most difficult fight I encountered was the lvl 12 rifts in the Hinterlands when I was at level 9. I even had to use a few potions.

Funny bear-related story: I was fighting a great bear in the Hinterlands and had just killed it when three mabari show up. I was dealing with them when another regular bear appeared. Then two lyrium smugglers. And once I had dealt with them, I got jumped by ANOTHER great bear, and I had only three health potions left.
Long story short: I set Great Bear No. 2 on fire and then ran like hell to the nearest campsite.

Maybe those morons would have had an easier time if they weren't trying to kill a druffalo with ice blasts.

They're godless killing machines.
I'm afraid of bears, I think owls are a waste of time.

I guess none of you had lyrium smugglers crash your hinterland bear battles out of freaking no where?
I want to know why the bears don't maul the lyrium smugglers that seem to stalk them around Thedas. I mean, really!

I don't have issues with bears. I like killing them for leather... but only when there's one or two of them...
But that initial part of going into Hafter's Woods in Hinterlands... the 3 great bears find you! OH NOES! 3 normal bears are tagging along! ALONG WITH TWO SETS OF PROWLERS AND A PACK OF MABARI. Not sure how I survived that one... I didn't have any potions left...

And you can't outrun them. They chase you.

Yes, I foolishly thought it would be like Skyrim where if you make it to a town with guards they will start firing.
Nope.
