tons of people in the lolSP forums hate him, mostly because they're antisocial misanthropes, and he's one of the few characters that you can't be a giant douche to in conversations so he gets labeled a perma bro. He's not as hated as Liara, but pretty close.
I always simply suggest not talking to him, but no, we need to be able to tell him that he deserved to be shot in the face with a rocket and that we hope his dad and sister died. Whatever.
Being able to pick and choose who Shepard's real friends are would've added some depth to the interaction. This problem also affects Garrus. For those who don't like him, you get shoehorned into being his buddy (unless you're romancing him). Maybe someone doesn't want to deal with Liara or Garrus. Maybe they're closer to Kaidan and Tali. Then those two take up prominence in the friend/LI positions, but there's unique dialogue relating to each combination of squadmate and relationship status. Two friends will sound different from two normal squadmates, as will a friend and an LI from two friends.
Yeah you've a point but you can't hate Garrus, he is the Dude! And the best wingman in space opera history
I love garrus
But
Jacob was cooler
Bring the hate
Fixed, L2troll bro!
I love garrus
But
Wrex was cooler
Bring the hate
I don't disagree. Wrex is an excellent character. Perfect blend of philosopher and brute. It's really a travesty that you could only use him for 1.15 games, but he had shite to do anyway.
I love garrus

Wrex is cool but you can't take that mother fucker out in public to pick up women or someone's losing a limb. Garrus is the ultimate Space Bro Wingman.

In ME1? Oh absolutely. Garrus is a wishy-washy super serial cop in that game. Kind of boring. But he gets way better in ME2 and ME3, mostly through his combat dialogue.
I think people should have the choice because imagine not having the choice.
Imagine if in ME2 they wrote Jacob to be Shepard's wingman and you had to go with it.
Or if in DAO you didn't have the option of killing Zevran when he tries to assassinate you, and you have to spare him even if it's contrary to your character's personality.
(and I like Zevran, and I even like Jacob, but both of those possibilities would have ruined each game)

Random people from the SP forums. I can't name names because I don't remember any of them but some people legit don't like Garrus. If they don't want to, I don't mind. I don't think any character should be written like everyone loves them all the time.
what a bunch of turds. I agree that not every character should be written as being loved though. Because I hate Liara so much and I can never have my Shepard show that :')

Serious.

I avoid talking to Liara in that way however she shows up where I don't want her to. And that makes her a lot more intrusive than Garrus, in my eyes.
My point was. If I had the choice. And I could only take one through the whole 3 games. It would be Wrex
Wrex suffers from major RPG decay. He's supposed to be an OP-as-**** freak of nature, but they had no way of rendering that within ME2's game mechanics. Even in ME1 he's not quite what he could be. If written believably, Wrex as an ME2 squadmate would've just stomped everything unless they made him into a low-DPS super-tank like Shale. Even then, the game would've been broken.
Limbs be like:
A) Like Garrus
b ) Go **** Yourself
C) Die in a Fire
Because your choices matter.

Lol I remember his intro cutscene in the citadel Dlc,he was one bad madafuka!
Hey Limbs how come you're not getting censored when saying **** and I am?

I never got that impression. There are plenty of oppourtunities to be an arse to her if you so desire. You can literally threaten to throw her into a volcano at one point.

You can never do anything like that with Garrus. But I do get the complaints about her being so central in ME3. My reaction to her is mostly "meh". No strong like or dislike one way or the other.
*shrug* I guess I'm in the minority that I didn't really truly dislike more than a few characters, and most of them were confined to ME2 and thus could be ignored completely.

who honestly cares if the single player is broken tbh.
I don't care about balancing single player portions of any gameplay because basically in an RPG you're gonna control people that can do shit that whole armies can't do, anyway, so...
Managed to get my hands on video of some early Quarian experiments with synthetics.
We should've know it was doomed from the beginning.
Run! Abandon planet!

Sure, but she's still always there.
Were you given an opportunity to be asshole to any other character then they acted coldly towards you. But she doesn't. I've tried being the vilest person Liara has ever spoken to, and she's still there. Inserting herself into situations that she shouldn't.
Wrex had centuries to become awesome.
Garrus had a career in the military and C-Sec before he became a Spectre level badass.
Liara is 106 years old when you meet her the first time and she's still a softie.
Jack went through hell and back before she kicked major ass.
Thane was trained as an assassin from childhood.
Grunt was -made- to be awesome.
Mordin had a long career with STG.
Samara is an Asari Matriarch.
Morinth is centuries old, too.
Zaeed had a long career as mercenary.
Legion could be hundreds of years old, too.
Not even going to mention Javik's age.
Ashley, Kaidan, Miranda, Jacob and James are in their thirties and not awesome.
But Tali? Tali'Zorah nar Rayya? She's 22, fresh from the Migrant Fleet and kicks ass from the first moment on. She got shot, got herself patched up and went to a meeting with the Shadow Broker. That turned into an ambush during which she took out the two mercs in the first moment and proceeded to kill the rest when Shephard showed up. Two years later she's an Admiral and continues to be awesome. She's almost always on my squad and if you let her fight on her own, she routinely shreds everything to pieces. ^^
I liked all the Mass Effect squadmates. Although I wish EDI had just stayed as the ship AI.

I care. 90% of my time modding Skyrim is built around trying to make the balance of the game not suck. Though I care less about objective balance and more about balance that makes sense in-lore.

The Skyrim balance is broken without mods, too. I was level ~130 and killed dragons before they had a chance to attack me. ![]()

Tali had a military stint as well. It's explained in ME2 dialouge during her loyalty mission.
Plenty of people hate her for almost the same default-friend reason as Garrus, though I don't get that because you can be a total dick from the get go, and make her hate your guts in the 2nd game. She has literally one, optional conversation in the 3rd game, and that's only if she has survived up to that point.

No kidding!
The problem with the balancing is that if you use exploits, the game is too damn easy. If you don't use exploits, it's generally unfair in favor of the AI. So what I'm doing is favoring the latter approach: ground floor balancing that will make the game work correctly without the need for ridiculous chain-crafting and the like.

And people like you are the reason that single player games get balanced.
It's fine that you care.
But I really don't.
