I'm not sure if this is already a topic elsewhere, I couldn't find it if there is. Anyway, last week I was playing my level 15 human rogue and had just got her prowler armor and was super excited to keep playing her. The next day I logged into one of my other characters for a few minutes and when I went to switch back to my rogue she'd gone from level 15 from the night before to level 10 and all of her progress had been set back. I figured that I had somehow managed to delete a save or loaded the wrong save or something. Which was incredibly discouraging but I figured, my fault, so I didn't make a post. Well today I logged into my Qunari warrior (after not having played her for over a week) and she was set back to before she started her romance with IB I think she had previously been level 13/14 and is now 11. I KNOW I had already run though that romance including the scene where Cullen/Cass/Josie walking in on them. (hilarious btw) And I'm certain this time I did not delete or load the wrong save file. Any help would be appreciated because I have 8 characters going some over level 20 and I don't want to have to keep doing the same stuff on each character multiple times. Is the switching between characters option bugged? Or has anyone else had this happen to them?

 

 

Edited to add: Actually now that I think about it my rogue had started a relationship with IB but broke it off and then went for Sera. It reset her to before the IB romance started. Is there a known bug with the IB romance?

I ran into something similar, only it was just after I got the latest patch.  I lost two levels on my main character.  I didn't switch characters either.  It sucked too, because I dropped from 20 to 18, and my companions from 19 to 17.  It hurt, because there was some items they could no longer benefit from because they no longer had the levels.  I got them back, but it was still frustrating.

 

I don't know if it's related to your issue of switching characters, but that's what happened to me after I patched up yesterday.

That's very strange. Does the patch play with XP levels somehow? Is your game time affected?

What do you mean by game time affected?

The more I think about it now though it's only happened to the two characters that started relationships with iron bull and both times they were bounced back to just before they could start one with him. Not sure if that romance is bugged or of its something else. Disappointing either way.

As in did the playtime clock reset as well? Does it have the correct time and date?

I'm just trying to tease out what the bug might be in terms of what it affects.

I have no idea what it was before so I don't know how to answer that. As in I don't know if the time was right to begin with. If that makes sense.

If you are playing on PC, disable the cloud and use your local save files only (applies to all BW games). Origin has seriously the worst cloud service and you would be not the first to experience something like this.

I'm not really looking to get my saves back, though it would be nice. I just don't want to keep going if this is just going to happen again. I might break something if it happens again. :/

At this point I don't think there is a chance to get the saves back. However are PS4 DAI saves saved in cloud or locally? If in cloud, is there a way to save them only on your machine and disable the cloud? If on the other hand they have always been saved locally, I don't know what might have cause this.

I agree.  I always leave the Origin cloud save shut off.  It really is pretty bad, although my experience with Steam's cloud service hasn't been any better.  I just shut that off by default and keep the saves on my PC.  I make backups from time to time.  Hopefully that's the OP's problem.  It sucks, but it's better than a hardware issue.

The problem could be if you are syncing to the Origin cloud. If the server for whatever reason disconnects you will only be saving to the local drive. If you exit the program and then later start. The cloud saves and the local saves will try to sync. You usually get a warning asking which saves to use. If you accidentally click use the cloud saves it will overwrite the local saves. The cloud saves are usually behind the local saves in time. If you click use the local saves it will overwrite the cloud saves. 

 

The suggestion given about disabling the cloud saves is good, just remember to back up the save file to a removable drive. If the game is saving when a CTD happens it can corrupt the save files.

I don't have saved data and update files checked on my ps4 so none of my saves are going to the cloud. Unless I'm missing something and I need to disable it elsewhere.

I did advance my clock on my ps4 and have so far been able to save and reload those saves on my qunari to where they should be with no issues or set backs. Just finished the IB romance again and it seems to be fine. I don't think my clock was the issue but who knows, maybe. Just odd that it's only happened on two of my character that happen to have gone through the same romance. If it was the clock I'd have figured all of my characters would be affected.

I disabled my cloud saves long ago, but Origin still complains that my saves aren't synced from time to time. And if I go into Origin to verify the setting, cloud sync is always turned on, and it tells me I can't change the setting unless I'm online (which I am, and would have to be for it to notice that my saves weren't synced).

Origin is buggy. Way buggier than the actual game, I find.

Well, I'm glad it worked out for you.  Hopefully things continue to stay smooth, and I'm glad you're enjoying Bull's romance.  It's my favorite so far.
