The only numbers I have on how many Grey Wardens there are in the Anderfells are from Riordan, in Origins he claims there are more than one thousand Wardens there.
Guesstimate the population of Thedas?

Most of Nevarra's neighbors are small city states in the Free Marches, or the Tevinter Imperium in the north, a rival of Orlais, and in constant war with Orlais. Orlais on the other hand needs to garrison its huge territory against the occasional peasant revolt or elven rebellion as well as Ferelden and Nevarra. Besides, the population of a country does not need to have very much to do with its power. Sweden was considered a Great Power in the 17th century, while Poland was not. Poland at the time had 10 million inhabitants, Sweden had 1 million.
Sweden might be a good comparison to Nevarra. One of the reasons why Sweden was a great power in the 17th century was that a very high proportion of it's population was militarized. Perhaps that could be the case with Nevarra as well? Maybe Orlais is more populous overall, but Nevarra is able to match Orlais in militarily by pressing a higher percentage of it's population into military service.

Hello, can anyone point me to where it says Minrathous has a population of 1 million? (Are people just literally equating it to Ancient Rome at his height?) World of Thedas 1 only says it is the largest city in Thedas without giving a number. I've been trying to work out population sizes because of a story I am writing concerning what happens post Trespasser, so heading into Tevinter. I've figured that one way the Qun could hit Minrathous is cut off its food and lyrium supplies. It is said it has enough store houses for a year's supply of food for its citizens. If the population is 1 million, that is an enormous food supply to be stored.
The only definitive details of population I have been able to find was in the Game Guide for Origins, where it says that Ferelden has a population of 1 million and the combined population of its major centres (ones given plus Amaramthine) would appear to be around 150,000. This being the case then the majority of the population in Ferelden is in the countryside. I read somewhere else that Orlais's population is around 4 times the size of Ferelden's (or that could have just been Val Royeaux). Regardless, that means if the capital city has the same proportion of the population out of the whole as Ferelden, that still means Orlais would have a population of 4 million. I would think that the majority of their population would be centred around the Heartlands because that is the most productive farmland, given that the majority of the population is going to be engaged in agriculture. Large chunks are going to be sparsely populated: The Western Approach, Nahashin Marshes, The Tirashan, the Blasted Hills, the Deauvin Flats and even the southern Dales, so the actual area that is supporting people is not going to be that much greater than Ferelden.
The Freemarches are said to be the breadbasket of Thedas, so probably would have a comparable population to Orlais, even if the total area is smaller north of the Vimmark Mountains, but I'm not sure about Antiva since its main resource is said to be its vineyards and it relies almost totally on trade for its wealth, so probably a greater tendency for people to live near its cities and ports. Vines require certain soil conditions and climate to grow, so likely confined to specific areas. So I'd think their population would be somewhere between Ferelden and Orlais, particularly considering it must have been nearly wiped out during the 4th Blight and the land would have needed time to recover. Nevarra might have a comparable population to Orlais and the Freemarches.
So adding together all the nations, apart from Seheron, Par Vollen and Tevinter, I think you are looking at around not more than 16 million, with the smallest number in the Anderfels. Seheron will have suffered from being constantly at war and it is difficult to know about Par Vollen, but I'll settle for an estimate for Tevinter. If Val Royeaux has a population of 280,000 (4 times that of Denerim), then even allowing for Minrathous being larger, I wouldn't put it at almost 4 times as large. I'd say no more than 500,000 and that would be pushing it, unless you count possible suburbs on the mainland rather than the main island citadel.
Another thought is that in Origins it was claimed the population in Val Royeaux's alienage was 10,000 elves and that was the largest one in Thedas. This is a very small proportion of a population of 280,000 when elves are said to do much of the menial work. Whilst not all live in the alienage but probably in the houses where they serve, that still seems to suggest that the figure of 280,000 is too high.
