Probably a dumb question. I have 4 characters at level 20 now I've played a few games with them, but my experience doesn't seem to rise at all. I wanted to prestige and start again, but I can't see how to do it
how to prestige?

I'm not really sure what you mean by 'prestige'. You don't get experience from enemies three levels below you. You can get to level 24-25 by the end of the game if you do everything. You can't replay with your old character if that is what you are asking.

Character select screen, at the bottom is a button (promote) to click. It resets the character to level one and you can start leveling again. You receive either +1 const/will/cunn for all your characters by doing so.

I thought there was a function when you get to level 20 that you could return to level 1 with extra stats for all your characters.

I think that person was confused and thought we were in the single player former.

Get Tesla to build a teleportation machine for you.
Otherwise, do what Catastrophy said.

It's a good idea to promote the instant you reach lvl 20. You dont advance your characters anymore at that point.. and any levels you clear with a lvl 20 character only get's you gold, which is not worth the time. The promotion will net you a bonus skill point for every single one of your characters. As you get more knowledgable about the skills and particularly the passives with various characters, you'll learn that it's important to at least dabble in different classes. Cross-classing bonuses are rather important.
For example: Warriors like the Legionnaire and Templar get a passive called Flow of Battle. This is outstanding, as every single critical hit reduces all your active cooldown times by one second. But in order to land a reliable critical hit, you need either accessories that boost your cunning like an amulet, a ring of critical chance, or earn several rogue promotions to boost your characters cunning. In a nutshell: rogue promotions benefit warriors. They also benefit mages like the elementalist's flashpoint, actually. And warrior promotions benefit basically everyone, as constitution upps your health and melee defense. Mage promotions help strengthen magical defense for (like for rogues), etc.
