 Sumalee did a great job.

American male sounds like a nerd who makes YouTube commentary videos. Not a bad job, just did not like the voice.

I love Alix Wilton-Regan's performance. She's especially great at the emotional lines. Sumalee Montano was a bit stoic for my taste in those - I never really felt like anything got to my quizzie. Her speeches and judgements were great though, and the more dryly humourous lines. I enjoyed her acting overall.

Henry hadden-Paton was really good on the actual acting but I spent half the game going 'why so posh', so that really brought down my enjoyment. Haven't played Curry yet.

I've only used Alix's voice so far but I think it largely depends on what you want your Inquisitor to be generally I tend to play as a diplomatic caring type of character who generally sounds intelligent prefers to outthink rather than outfight her opponents and I think Alix pulls that off brilliantly. If you're playing a more aggressive Inquisitor I'd say the american option is probably better based on what I've seen from youtube vids. I'm only doing my second playthrough now really and both my characters have been female so far so I can't really comment on the male options. I was thinking maybe a male Qunari for my next run though when I do it.

I love Alix! I liked her in the other DA games too, but as the Inquisitor she fit her perfectly! She reminded me a bit of Hawke, but after hearing her for so long, Hawke's voice actually started to sound more high-pitch than I remember. Lol

Did anyone notice some of the Inquisitor's lines are taken right from Hawke too?

Aggressive British Male is generally better than the Diplo or Clever, imo. Seems a little deeper, kind of like how he sounded in the first trailer.

Alix Wilton-Regan = Smooth, a tad nasal, calm.

Very relaxing and appealing.

Small doses don't really show off her range. She's very expressive and emotional, but it takes time to get used to how she expresses emotion. At the beginning of the game, I remember I was wildly picking choices and having a hard time landing on my inquisitor's personality (previous playthrough was with Jon Curry). But by the end of the game she had this crazy depth that I hadn't expected or planned. I had been planning to play her as a stoic dragon-punching badass, but through the subtle flickers of emotion throughout the game, I realized she was feeling so much under the surface. I even started picking softer options in the late game, because she played kindness and uncertainty so beautifully.

And of course when the time comes to be a dragon-punching badass, she nails it. Exactly as awesomely as you'd expect. I got real shivers when she said "You're not proving anything by talking!" in the end staredown. Bloody flames, remind me not to get on her bad side.

She definitely isn't for everyone, but it's worth giving her some time before deciding. :)

Oops, I think I mixed up Inquisitors...I thought you meant Alix. Still, you've made a good case for Sumalee too, of that's who you meant! :)

British accents just seem to work in this world, although varric seems to be the one exception and he works it very well, imo. I accidentally put sumalees voice on my quizzy and wasn't a fan. Not a slight on her, but I myself like to imagine a more romantic, sophisticated quizzy than a commandeering one. Plus, I'm in NY so there is nothing exotic about it to me :/ too many british actors are covering up their accents with american ones :( a british rick grimes would be much more suave and deadly :D

Woah totally went off tangent there. Sorry!

I prefer the american male voice out of them all. Both British voices irritate me when I hear them.

But if Andrew Lincoln did it in his normal english accent, we'd have lost out on "Stuff" and "Thangs"... so, swings and roundabouts?

On-topic, I enjoyed all of their peformances, but think that the default voices tend to suit the respective races more than if they were applied to the others? As others have said before, AWR and HHP tend to portray the Inquistor as soft-spoken, extremely savvy and having a dry wit, while SM and JC have their Inquisitor's projecting more of a sense of power, authority and a robust sense of humour?

All or most dwarves and qunari seem to have American accents. There's also the dalish camp in DA:O where all the elves had American accents, so in my headcanon, it's acceptable for elves as well.

I can't recall many non-British humans, but the one exception seems to be Seggrit??

I try to adhere to "the usual" when I make my inquistors. Honestly, I used to hate the Sumalee voice, but now she's one of my favorites. And Alix. Basically, I think I prefer the female voices.

I think it all depends on tone. Clever HHP is pretty different than Direct.. it's pretty noticable to me. Enough that I don't even like using Clever much..

Teehee "thangs" he tries so hard.

And yeah the american ones just have that hard edge to it that never fit my canon quizzy. She wasn't born to command, it just fell in her lap, so as either a noble or an elf female, I haven't imagined them being in a leadership role before, at least not to the extent the accent calls to mind for me.

I've not gone full Direct or Aggressive yet with HHP, I tend to go Clever, even though it does tend to make his Lavellan and (especially) Trevelyan sound like a complete and utter nerd/toff at times. And even though I use the word myself from time to time, Sera's totally right that no-one says "...Hence?" without at least subconsciously trying to sound clever.

Huh! I never saw that connection between the race and the accents.. but you're totally right. I always associated it with the country, antiva is spanish, orlais is french, fereleden is british, and so is the imperium maybe? And rivain? Although dorian and isabella can hardly be considered model citizens of their native countries and they're the only representatives I can think of :)

I've only played as a female so I can't judge the male voices but I really can't stand the American voice for some reason. She rubs me the wrong way and just from the voice I already find myself not liking the character. Too aggressive for one thing. Also since I tend to play as an elf I found it really didn't fit. So yeah, British voice all the way for me <3

For female pc voices, Alix Wilton Regan is my favorite. I just couldn't get into Sumalee's. I tried, but...it just seemed so monotone, and bored, that I couldn't even finish a playthrough with it. It kinda reminds me of Jennifer Hale's ME2 performance, tbh.

I've only tried the American male voice, and it's ok, but not my favorite. It's too soothing. Then again, I thought that of the m!Shepard and m!Hawke VAs, too. They just make me want to curl up in a ball and sleep.  ^_^

It's interesting how people on both sides have really strong opinions about Alix and Sumalee's VO. They seem to be a lot more polarizing than the male VO.

I suppose that's a good thing, because it means everyone has an option they love. :D

Lol, we Americans don't have an accent. We have to pronounce every letter succinctly because we're still rebelling against the evil empire. :D same reason I can't tell you how far a kilometer is, if I'm getting a good deal on a liter of gas, or how damn cold it is in celsius....rebellion rules :P as does cluelessness

Actually, that's not true for us Texans.

We shorten and string together words often.
