I want to be able to walk without having to hold down a freaking key constantly as in the first game.  Why was the toggle option for walking removed?

Is there a way to set the walk key to toggle?  Help is appreciated.  I'ts frustrating not to have this very simple option available.

You toggle to run, walking is default

He means like in some rpgs where you can just toggle autowalking I think.  But I think the devs most likely thought the game was too action-oriented for something like that to be useful.

in mass effect 2? there is no toggle to walk...you have to keep it preesed. In ME1 there was a toggle to walk. Not in ME2. Anyone know a work around?

Oh, I see what you are saying, I misunderstood...I have only seen that mechanic in MMORPGs though

What? Autowalking is not really a major issue in a combat-centric game.

you know...you hit the key once and let it go and it would walk...hit it again and it would run. You know (toggle)

Stick a screw or something between the keys, I did it to max out my acrobatics in oblivion. Toggling it is probably a different story though.

does anyone know what option I have to edit in the .ini files to make a toggle of the walk button?

compare walk to sprint in the .ini maybe, though I'm not sure editing the .ini file actually works.

It does, just not with a Text editor. If you do it with say, Notepad, you break your game.

Which key in me2 makes you walk? It was Z in me1.

Is it really so hard to hold down Ctrl? Really?

It gets annoying after a while.

Running around the shops in the Citadel looks....silly....

I don't know. I don't have a problem with hold down Ctrl. But toggling was nice also but I don't have problem with that as I said before.

...also, when I've been walking around the world of ME2 for 14 hours straight (-the shooty bits), my pinky gets 'a bit' tired... ;þ

It's just a matter of taste, and it's especially important to some people in games such as this that focus heavily on atmosphere and immersion. It does just seem silly to be jogging everywhere. That's the long and short of it. Obviously that will matter more to some people than it will to others.

It requires a simple edit of coalesced.ini.

Change:

Bindings=(Name="Walking",Command="Button bRun")

To:

Bindings=(Name="Walking",Command="Toggle bRun")

Use an appropriate editor that automatically rebuilds it to suit me2 (coalesced editor, or the coalesced mod manager) or edit it in something like notepad++ and run it through me2inifixer.exe

That's all it takes. The beauty of this change is, if you then change your walk key via the game's bindings menu, the change carries over. Walking will always be a toggle now.

You can walk in the PC version? In the Xbox version all you can do is run in slow motion...

Walking is so slow and weird looking in ME2, that even for someone like me, who will walk in the appropriate places, I get kinda tired of it.

It's hard too since I'm on the 360 and you only have a tiny spot before you go into running.

The same reason there is a screenshot folder with no screenshot capability.
The same reason there is no helmet toggle.
The same reason Kaidan share Ashely's feminine animations and looks like a complete effiminate sissy.
The same reason femshep's walking and mannerisms are identical to maleshep.
The same reason sole survivor Shepard can express no vocal grudge against Cerberus.
The same reason your clothing options are cerberus stooge or poor man's Han Solo space bucaneer Marty McFly wannabe
The same reason I can name several other obviously flaws a 5th grader could pointed out.

The game was rushed out the door without any polish. Thanks, EA???

Sorry to bump this thread after so long but I just have to say thanks for this.
Just started a new playthrough of ME2 and this will definitly be a pinky saver! :)
