I just opted out of using the pre order armor because of this, which sucks, but I rather see my characters face.

I just did the same thing.  Frustrating.  Even though I like teh Collector's Edition for the rest of the stuff, I got it for the Collector's armor, which increases defenses.  But I would rather see Shepard during the conversations.

All of my hype for all those armors involved me envisioning them *without* the helmet.

Finally got Terminus installed, but can't ever use a helmet, so I'll never use it. It's just not worth missing out on all of Shep's emotions, especially during some incredibly poignant moments.

I'm pretty sure it just boils down to people wanting options, and to have the option to have a helmet-less shepard at all times (toggle helmet on or off, just like ME1) should have been made for DLC armors, IN A DIALOGUE HEAVY GAME,.....now I opt not to use the DLC armor... plus the N7 armor comes with so many color options, how can you not use it!? Kinda dumb though I paid for the CE of ME2 and the only thing it looks like I'll use is the rifle...

I agree with the majority of people here and if anything I want the option to toggle my helmet, at least for conversations. As others have said, Bioware invested al ot of time and money in a great facial expression system, why waste that?

Bumping this for good measure.

I agree. It's highly annoying to not be able to see Shepard's facial expressions when in conversation, especially in conversations that are supposed to have an emotional impact.

I finally opted for less powerful armor in favor of being able to see her expressions. But since it's abundantly clear when Shepard & co. are about to enter a firefight, I think an argument can be made for toggling the helmet off unless actually in a fight. Besides, the rest of the squad seems to get by just fine without a helmet, why shouldn't Shepard?

I have to confirm this with you ppl: when you put a standard ingame armour, choose a helmet that covers the face, the helmet persists during conversations?

If that is true...well, what a particular decision I might say. I would never thought or imagine that kind of decision was a right thing to do. Unless the game engine or mechanics/scripting ar whatever that is prevents the helmet from disapearing during conversations (makes it downright impossible). I hope that is not thae case, and taht situation will be rectified really quick with a hotfix. Whats the point in keeping helmet on when I want to see my Shepards scarred veteran face during conversations. THERE IS NONE!

I'm not even voting for toggle - I choose a helmet, let me run only with helmet, but when I enter conversations I want it to go "puff" and see my pc's face.

Please? Soon?

Thank you.

I hate the points when someone recognizes you when you're completely covered, but besides that I must say most the convos with a helmet on of course happen in combat situations. I really just don't see a character pulling their helmet on and off just to show facial expressions.

So basically in some cases, when people see through your helmet, it breaks immersion... otherwise I think it makes for even greater immersion due to realism.

Our main character's face isn't that important actually. The cool armors on the other hand...

Don't give up, keep at them until this gets a decent response. Being unable to even see your character during conversation is an embarrassing oversight that needs to be corrected.

Yup, it's pretty crazy how people recognize you by your "appearance" even though your face is completely covered.

I found this pretty funny as well. "Shepard is that you?" Um...how  can you tell through my mask. I think it should be an option to be toggled whether to have it on or not in convo. That way people can have it either way. I like the DLC armors, but I am a bit annoyed that I can't have the helmets off in convo, which I believe they did in ME1

i love buying drinks with my terminus armour. shepard just smacks the glass into his helmet Image IPB

What boggles me is that this was obviously intended since they went to the length of designing the DLC armor with voice modifiers/speech activated lights.

Seriously, implement a helmet toggle. Not wearing the DLC armour till that happens, because it's just jarring.

I agree. There certainly needs to be a toggle.

Kind of amazed this is present in the commercial release of the game. It seriously wasn't caught in testing? Or did Bioware just decide that no one REALLY wanted to see their character's face?

Pretty silly. I guess now I'll have to debate buying the next special edition since I don't want it to ruin the game for me, instead of enhance it. Half way through, I just put the collector armor away because it's ridiculous talking to people in it. How  could Bioware not understand that this would affect the overall tone of their game? Is collector's armor that important that you'd make conversations absurd to sit through just so you can have a 'cool' looking set? Don't get me wrong, I love the armor and game but in dialogue scenes, it is way too intrusive and just looks silly. This is not a reward for paying 10 more dollars. I paid more money to be annoyed which is just silly. At least, the other stuff is good other than the Art book spoiling the ending...

I'm pretty miffed at Bioware  - there games are mostly good to great but always with some niggling, seemingly ridiculous design decisions. Always. I don't get it. Loving the game though even the biotics that everyone is complaining about.

This is really ruining the atmosfer of having conversations with face animations which is really important and makes the game more lively , Surely needed to be corrected with a patch. I hope we could get one soon

The frustrating part is that sometimes after a heavy dialogue part you enter a pre-combat area and find a weapon locker to change your weapons out but no locker for your armor and no ability the change into a helmet for the coming fights. Only option is to return to the ship, have it undock, go to the 3rd floor and then make the change...

Ive done like most folk and opted to go helmetless although I hate it in combat situations.

Why can't there be a simple helmet option patched in? When you select one of the DLC armors you should simply get an option to enable or disable the helmet. I'm pretty sure that it won't take too much work to make that possible.

Quoting for truth. Helmet toggle shouldn't be that difficult to implement.

Such a shame this - all the negativity marring an otherwise excellent release.

But I have to agree the helemt situation is far from ideal.

Hopefully Bioware are looking into it - after all they do listen - so perhaps we'll get a good result.

i doubt the colectors armour will have a removable helmet though as it has never had a toggle unlike the default one. I have the collectors armour and could live with that as long as the default ones get a toggle. Here's hoping!

I'm going to have to quote this for absolute truth - something I've been thinking myself. I love their games, but some of those design decisions just makes me wonder "who the heck thought THAT was a good idea".
I was really looking forward to using the Blood Dragon Armor - but I won't, because I can't remove the helmet :/

Well Christina Norman commented on the DLC armor beeing in one piece only because thats how they look better. But not commenting on the N7 headgear. The explanation is just rediculous. A slightly better look of the armor can never be more important than the most important and outstanding feature of the Mass Effect series, the life like, emotional dialoges!

Besides if there was a helmet toggle or conversation auto hide option you would be able to admire both, the face you created in detail with all the outstanding animations and the full armor set in battle situations. With the right balance either aspect would matter even more instead af shoving just one into your face all the time.

I think the simplest fix would be having another option in the menu "Hide helmet during dialog".
And for the DLC armor it can't be so hard to cut of the helmet in a 3D program and making it a seperate object with one normal and one invisible skin.

Casuals could just ignore the menu option and everyone who understands story telling and immersion can benefit from that option immensly.

It doesnt break the game if the helmet magicly comes of in DA. The designers there obviously understood the principle of compromise and priority. While the responsible people for Mass Effect 1 understood that people like to roleplay in an RPG (duh) and like to have the options for that.

Indeed. Just inplement the HELMET TOGGLE button on the squad screen like ME1, and have an option in the game menu for Hide/Show Helmet During Conversation.

I mean come on, it can't be that hard to patch it in?

The helmet being on doesn't annoy me during battle but besides those, while having a conversation, I don't want to miss the facial acting that gets involved.. that's why I'm not using the Blood Dragon or Collector's Armor right now.. they cut a thing in the game that for me is extremely important..
I hope they'll come along with a fix in a patch, atleast for the N7 armor, to take off the helmet when talking.. atleast in paced situations..
