And I know I'm not alone, except for what people have said in this thread, I've heard the same opinion as I have from all of those I know that play the game.
"I love the preorder armors and collectors armor, but I'm running around in the original armor anyway because I want to see my face."

I like helmets during combat, but they suck during dialogue, so.... yeah. I wear the N7 default helmet.

I put on my Blood Dragon Armor and after I realized that I can't put off the helmet I switched to my normal armor again.
If it were Darth Vaders armor I would say ok.
Please fix this Bioware!

However, if that isn't true, the only solution they would have with the special armors would be to create a second armor set without the helmet and then reskin Shepard during conversations. That would probably work in all cases, but I can already see people griping about how the helmetless armor isn't the same, looks strange, etc., etc.
Adding a toggle for the N7 armor shouldn't be that big a deal, though. Or at least shouldn't have been during development.

Really? You can see into that well enough? I have my graphics all maxed with a decent geforce gtx 260 and it's foggy at best, which isn't too enjoyable, often opaque any other time. I suppose it's a lighting/material issue. Maybe it's better with the DOF off, I haven't tried that.Viper-sfm wrote...
The inferno armor at least has a see-through visor, so that one can be played as well.
In the end, this is an issue that should be dealt with. It would have been nice to at least have the option to swap armor at a weapon station. Better yet would be a toggle for the helmet, either always [best], or during conversations [NPCs can do it] or activating upon enemy contact.
I get it, the armor is an art piece and should be appreciated as a whole, but I'm sure there's at least a few ways to have worked around that to satisfy both the artist and the player.

I believe BioWare when they say they can't do it with the special armors because they are a single skin. There is also some thought that using a single skin allows them to play games with the relative sizes. In short, the Shepard you see in the armor could not be properly rendered without a helmet.
The issue is not that we don't believe they didn't create a single skin, but rather that they shouldn't have. As well, I don't remember a setting for making my Shepard a dwarf or an elf so there are no relative sizes, so the armor if done like the regular armor could have been rendered properly without a helmet. The conversation about removing the helmet probably happened too late in the development process when everything was locked into place, so the lead artist told everyone else to forget about it and he is not changing it.
I am only pissed because they spent time creating trailers showing off the armor and how cool it was going to be wearing the dragon armor and countless other trailers spoiling elements of the story, but not one cutscene where it showed the helmets were going to stay on during cutscenes. Even the box art never shows a Shepard with their helmet on. I would not have bought the collectors edition had I known that was the case, and doubt I will buy any collectors editions from BioWare in the future.

Otherwise, I agree that there was some marketing done in a very careful way.

I ADORE the armors, but I'd like to see my character's face :[ If I used them, all that hard work going into facial animations would be for nothing. She does sound cool though.

Sorry.. I meant that with a single skin armor, they could play games with sizes. If you actually compare a Shepard in N7 armor and a Shepard in other armor, are the relative sizes the same? In N7, the head is pretty large. But the custom armors seem to have narrower heads to me. They might have done that for artistic means.

Sorry didn't understand, mainly because I saw I couldn't hide the helmet so I have never put on one of the custom armors even though I have 3 of them. I think that is what should be driving the artists to rework the armor. That not everyone has the opportunity to see what they have created because it is special content, and those who can, are choosing not to because it gets in the way of experience the player is trying to have.

It needs to be something a little larger, like "Shepard. Yes, THAT Shepard. The one that saved your rears."

That might be too large. Maybe Garrus can hold it and follow us around.
