The helmet should be a quick patch fix. Adding armours for your chacracters to wear woould be a big job and is required.

Why not just remove the helmets from the dlc armor completely wouldn't that be easier than trying to add some toggle option to the entire game. It's not like anyone else in the squad even uses a helmet anyway.

ME2 does a good job at immersion and i think they can actually rectify this with an animation of taking the helmet off when sheppard engages in conversation. o dunno if bioware did a motion capture of that but it would be pretty neat

I don't think they'll do anything to fix this. The only armors that make you wear a helmet are already paid for and done with. The only thing we can hope for is that anything in the future will have the helmet removable in the config screen. Maybe we'll get more visors and whatnot in future DLC.

"I can understand the desire to run around in collector armor with the 'helmet' off but that isn't the
way they were designed in terms of appearance or in terms of art assets. To state it simply the armor is a single piece."

lol this is funny.  Obviously, they were designed incorrectly, then.  I wonder what kind of groupthink led to this decision... or if it was one otherwise brilliant person making a stupid decision.  :o

It reminds me of an architect leaving bathrooms out of a house design because it upsets some subtle angle he was trying to achieve.

True about the only armors that make you wear a helmet are the pre-order ones and the Collector's one, but even if you wear normal armor and you actually want to use a helmet, like for combat and stat reason, then you still stuck with the same problem of wearing your helmet during conversations. I still think the best solution is for Bioware to have created a 'helmet take off' animation, or just make the helmet come off and attach to a suitable area on the suit or something just for conversations =]

They don't need an animation. There are plenty of compromises for game purposes that break immersion. Having the helmet simply 'disappear' during conversations is perfectly acceptable.

Ok.... I guess it's perfectly acceptable to me. ;)

Won't be good enough. Shepard is pretty common.

It needs to be something a little larger, like "Shepard. Yes, THAT Shepard. The one that saved your rears."

That might be too large.  Maybe Garrus can hold it and follow us around. Image IPB

I would pay some Microsoft Points to see that lol!

Ok I read 10 pages and people are jumping all over the place and I can't get all my facts straight.

Let me resume to make sure :
  • DLC (bonus) armors are one piece. No customization.
  • Normal armors are customizable

So, while using normal armors already in the game :

  • At a gear station, you can select different armor pieces for different part of your body.
  • If you equip a helmet, you're stuck with it in cutscenes and dialogues because there is no equip/unequip helmet like in Mass Effect 1?

Let me say that if this is all true I'm kind of disapointed.

The DLC armor with no option to remove the helmet, even at a gear station is a little bit annoying but I couldn't care less.

What is bothering me quite a bit since I like to see my character face is that you need to be a medium and know the future so you can go to a station and unequip the helmet before dialogues?

I would be totally fine (for the normal armors) with an option to show or hide the helmet on the fly, like in Mass Effect, but with the helmet I chose at a gear station (not having random hemlets decided by the game like in ME1). Losing the stat bonus when doing so would be normal and expected.

@HemisH You got it right, that's the current situation.

lol even if you did know the future and where all the dialog scenes were, what is Shepard supposed to do if he/she's wearing a helmet, say: 'Hang everyone, I'm not ready to talk yet, gotta run to my ship quick and take this helmet off, wait on me...please!'

Keeping the dream alive. If the existing special armors can't accommodate this fine. But its obvious that the system is available for the N7 armor. Let us take advantage of the stats on the N7 helmet but be able to see our face in game. Again this system was already in place in the first Mass Effect and I don't recall anyone complaining about having the option.

I kind of feel cheated since I bought the digital deluxe edition for the armor and now I do not even use it, not because of stats but solely because I want to see facial expressions during chat. They put so much effort into facial responses, why cover them up? What was the point of making these special armors in a way that so limiting, compared to common armors which do have the ability to remove the helmet. Perhaps this was just a rushed thing and they go lazy, not sure. It sucks and I have learned to wait on buying a deluxe edition, without researching if the ball has been dropped on a feture that I am buying it for.

Let us remove the helmet. BioWare, it's your duty now. Make it so. You sold 2 million copies, you're happy, now make us happy in this too.

This is a big deal for me as well. Only using the armor on side missions. C'mon BW, just release a non-helmet during dialog patch!!! You can do it!!!

I find it ironic there's a helmet in the game that gives a conversation negotiation bonus yet it completely covers your face and slightly masks your voice.

lmfao..... QFT!!!

Seriously though guys, patch this.  I actually have the Collector's Armor, The Inferno Armor, The Terminus Armor, and The Blood Dragon Armor..... yet I will NOT use any of them.  It wouldn't irk me so much if the option to do it wasn't in the first game.  It's not that something was left out, it's that something was removed.

I agree, I will only use Visors on shepard as I would like to see his face whilst he is talking. They should just implement the same system used is DA:O and have the helmet just disappear during discussions.

Again, love the game - but finding about this was enough to make me cancel my preordered CE and just buy the standard edition instead, didn't think I'd be happy about the delay of the CE here in DK.

Seriously, I highly doubt they will do anything about it - I'd be really surprised if they made helmets removable on the special armors.

Man, i hunted down that collector's edition mainly because of the Armor, and i want to use it soooo much but it ruins all of the immersion during the conversation IMO
