I can understand the desire to run around in collector armor with the 'helmet' off but that isn't the way they were designed in terms of appearance or in terms of art assets. To state it simply the armor is a single piece.
We do have a system for armor segments, and you can use that to construct a custom look for Shepard, but armor has to be designed artistically and otherwise for this system. To put it another way - the collector armor wouldn't look like the collector armor if we built it using the segmented armor system. We're able to get the awesome look because it's a single armor piece. This is not a bug, so it can't be "patched" to change the behavior.
The argument is basicly
"It only looks awesome because we force it to look awesome". The argument does have some merit, because they have them wholecast-with-glued-on-helmet for "artistic reasons"; If you had the option to turn the helmet off, or as a part of the segmented armor system, it wouldn't look as "awesome".
This is, of course, complete and utter bollocks. I am fully capable of determining myself what I think looks great or not. Breaking the armors up into their segments (breaking up the bonuses too, of course)
may look terrible under certain circumstances. Imagine mixing the Collector's chestpiece with the shoulders, legs and armpieces of the Inferno armor, and the Cerberus bucket as a headpiece.
That would look terrible.
But it would be
my choice to look terrible. And even more importantly, this'd apply to those armors that doesn't look horrible when mixed with other pieces. I want to have a Cerberus Armor and use the Umbra Visor. Why can't I? Or maybe I want to see how a full Collector armor looks with a classic N7 rebreather helmet? Maybe it looks good, maybe it doesn't.
It doesn't matter.I want to use the different parts of my armors. How I use them, wheter it looks good or not, doesn't matter. Some people are running around with Shepard's N7 armor in pink and magenta. It looks atrocious. It doesn't make sense in the context of the universe (the N7 armor
never made sense in the context of the universe, past the beginning of ME1). None of this stopped them from implementing the
Armor Segment System (
A.S.S.).
Why should it stop them now? To stubbornly hold onto the missguided notion that these armors are somehow more holy than the ridiculous N7 armor is childish.
Please, please, please, please,
please!; Devs, leads, find it in your hearts to fix this issue. Break the armors up into their segments. Release 1.1 versions of the armor DLCs.
We implore you. This may be a childish issue on our part aswell. But we're playing a game here. All we want is to play an even better game, as we see it. And some of us are really stuck on this issue, because as of now, those lovingly crafted armors you've made - and I'm sure someone at the office, perhaps multiple persons, take some amount of pride in these armors - they're simply not being used. Not because they're not good. But because.. well.. as far as games go, it's like having a flat on your car.
I mean.. you CAN technically drive a car with a flat. But no-one does. It's bad for the car. And having that car standing around with a flat is better than having no car at all.
Please fix the flat.
