I'll go grab the final ally and power achievements on ME1, by the time I get back, they'll have a patch.

Judging from Bioware's response in other threads, it doesn't seem like something that will ever be changed. Its unfortunate to me atleast because I wouldn't even have gotten the CE if that information was known prior.

Apparently the armour's like that on purpose.

It looks like it'll never get changed.

I really hope that the devs concentrate on creating any future armours so that they can be addded to the modular system as I don't see the point in spending so much time and effort creating something, only to have people not bother with it due to one single bewildering decision?

solution (a bit half baked but whatever)

playthrough the first time with in game armor to see facial expression etc

then playthrough a second time with bonus armor cause youve already seen everything.

i know its not the best, but use some initiative and try to make the best of a situation that wont be fixed.

How can you make an amazing game and drop the ball on something so simple as this. What about additional DLC armor. Same thing. Pay 400 MS points for this armor but keep in mind you cannot toggle the helmet. It's mindblowing. What a bunch of retards.

I have a question. I have the terminus armor, and I would rather see shepards face as well. So if I use the normal armor, will I be losing stats if I choost to go helmet-less? You can choose to not wear a helmet if the armor selection, but does it say whether or not you lose stats by wearing the armor without a helmet? I don't think I noticed if it did. But, I am going to go with another suggestion here, and just get one of the cool looking visors. It sucks that I pre-ordered for the terminus armor, but oh well, I still have the cool gun!

Also, on a side note, the armors say that they have like a suite of battle software or something. Does this really change anything if you wear the terminus armor as compared to the regular armor? There's nothing listed in the stats... maybe it just makes for a cool description, but provides no actual use?

This is awful. If BioWare fixed this with paid DLC, I would actually buy it. That's how badly I want helmet toggle.

I guess some don't understand what the devs are talking about! It is not the case that the armor is that way on purpose, but it's a technical necessity!

In detail, I guess Shepards head doesn't even properly fit into the terminus helmet! It has unrealistic proportions to look cooler, so in contrary to the N7 breather helmet, the face is not even rendered in there. Attaching the 3d model of his head might result in his neck beeing wider than the opening in the armor and such ugly stuff.

The would have to redo the armors, that's for sure. maybe even change their look a bit. But it's possible, it was the same with this chinese stealth armor in Fallout 3, and a modder fixed it in a few days. Sadly, ME2 has no toolset...

I am very disappointed with this whole bonus armor helmet fiasco, but I agree with Ace1221 and unless a patch comes out, I will play through ME2 without the bonus armors and then play again with them since I will know what happens.

This is a poor solution to something Bioware should release a patch/update for. If you have to redesign the armor then do it because all you did with was ****** off the most hardcore of your fans- all the ones who were eagerly anticipating this game and preordered it back in 2009.

Whoa, whoa...

...all the bonus armor was pretty much free, correct?

... and so many people are going crazy over free content?

Look, just pick a different set of armor, one that shows your face, and stick with that. I'm DISAPPOINTED by the non-toggle-able helmets, but I'm certainly not ANGRY about it. Nobody's forcing me to download and wear it and I'm sure you can play through the game without ever using the armor and you wouldn't be missing much.

It's a missed opportunity, and an oversight, but nothing to get bent out of shape over. Too many people hear spewing unadulterated rage over something so very very small and silly.

... though in a backhanded way, you know you've made a great game when "helmet toggles" are the number one complaint levied against it thus far.

WOW i'm truly disappointed with Bioware.. We are in 2010 now for god sake the game engine is rendering the whole armor including every party of the body as a single piece set?!

What kind of game engine they are using?!

Seriously Bioware are good story tellers and was never any good in their game/graphics engine. Hence, the failulre of all these issues. They should just licensed a good engine and with their ultimate story telling skill, it will be the best game evar.

A cool solution would have been to design armor and conversations so that the helmet is removed and it kind of sits semi attached to Shepard's back (just below the neck) to give the sense that Shepard has just taken off his/her helmet for that conversation. Obviously this can't be done now, but if it was planned like this from the beginning I don't think it would have been extremely difficult to do that - that would solve the problem of not being able to see the face as well as keep the realism in not having Shepard's helmet magically disappear.

I think this was the next step for Bioware to take from what they've done in ME1 and Dragon Age in terms of improving this aspect.

*Edit* Anyway I'm gonna just try play by judging as best as I can when I think a helmet is called for and when it is not i.e. If I'm going to the citadel I'll leave the helmet off or if I'm going on a short side mission where hopefully there won't be too much dialog I'll use a helmet. It's those main mission's that I'm not sure what to do on...it sucks going into combat not wearing your helmet, but having to do all the main dialog in the game with a helmet on isn't the greatest either. hmmm :?

I just thought of another potential cool solution which could have been to put 'armor customization' station's in the world a little bit before really big main dialog scenes and at the first one having a little tip come up telling the player that these are found before main dialog scenes are approaching. This would give the player the option to unequip their helmet before these 'main' scenes.

Not a perfect solution, in that there would obviously still be dialog scenes (shorter ones) where this wouldn't be possible, but I wouldn't mind if I had to wear my helmet for short dialog scenes (like during combat or watever) and being able to unequip my helmet for those main big story dialog scenes :).

you should use the special armor for combat situations. and when you're just walking around switch to something else

Yeah that would be totaly fine but they dont let you take your helmet on and off or switch armor unless your at one of the armor stations, which is highly annoying.

I'm obviously not livid over this issue but I am disappointed. This definitely seems like a step backwards compared to what we have seen in their previous titles.

I haven't actually received or opened my CE yet. Maybe I should just return it? This whole venture has been kind of misleading to say the least.

Depends on why you got the CE I guess...I got it mainly for the artwork book and 'beyind-the-scenes' dvd, but I can understand if someone got it with the armor as the main thing in mind.

Yep, I'd suggest returning it and buying a cheaper copy of the game. No sense paying for extras you can't even use.

If they want to ignore this issue then maybe next time my wallet won't be so modular either.  Perhaps my wallet is artistically designed to only cough up a bill for a used copy of the game and unfortunately can never be changed to a more modular, multiple bills design.

This is a big oversight.

I hope Bioware will change this in the next update.

I want to use the Terminus Armor, but not if I can not see my face with it.

The exact same thing with the Death Helmet...Just give us the old ME1 option back to toggle helmets on/off.

Can't they implement armor stations in the world a little bit before main dialog cutscenes that occur over the main storyline, so you can unequip your helmet during certain points in a mission? ;) hmmm the thing is even if Bioware does something, it will take a while before its implemented. I'm not gonna not play it because of this kind of minor issue hehe. Like I said earlier, I'm gonna use the special armors and armor /w helmet during short side mission's where it won't bother me if I'm talking through a helmet or not, and unequip helmets for certain non-combat orientated locations like the citadel. It's only the main missions that I'm not sure what to do. :?

Does anyone know if armor stations are provided during main missions or is it only when you on your ship and before a mission starts?

This is the same thing they did in DA:O.

Whats wrong with a show helmet on/off toggle?

In a realtively easy fix Bioware will satisfy both camps.

I was thinking this same thing. I like hte DLC armor but opt to just use the regular armor with no helmet cause I can't stand not seeing my shephards face/expressions

I find this thread quite funny actually, i remember there being threads of the exact opposite on the dragonage forums, people where angry that their helmets did go away during dialogue and cutscenes :P

I dunno what forums you were watching but it wasn't this one...

Poeple wanted a toggle to allow the helmets to show/not show ALL THE TIME..not just in dialogue..and the overwhelming concensus was "at least they're gone during dialogue"

and yes this is stupid..why so many steps backwards on so many things bio???

There is no "toggle" because helmets/visors bestow bonus stats. Unlike the first game where they are just for show. Since you basically only can change you appearance before the mission your stuck using the N7 armor with no helmet or the visor if you want to see your face.

This is in apparent response to how people didn't like there helmets removed in the first game....
