Count me in as disappointed...I'm not using any of my special armor either (including Collector's armor,) because even though the stats are superior to the N7, I greatly prefer being able to see my Shepard's face during all of the conversations. I'm using the open-faced N7 helmet for the health bonus, and even that covers up my face too much IMO. I always ran my characters in ME1 with all of their helmets toggled off. I would have greatly preferred the same on/off toggle as in ME1, or even how it was done in DA:O- helmet on during battle, off for conversations.

Yeah I chose to skip over the DLC armours for this reason. I want too see the face not the mask.

Yeah, I thought the Dragon Age model got it dead right. I have a feeling that Bioware is taking this particular complaint to heart, and is looking into seeing what (if anything) is possible. I'm not sure we will see a fix before we're done playing the game for the first time, but if there is a "fix" to be had, I thing we will see it.

There is no "toggle" because helmets/visors bestow bonus stats. Unlike the first game where they are just for show. Since you basically only can change you appearance before the mission your stuck using the N7 armor with no helmet or the visor if you want to see your face.

This is in apparent response to how people didn't like there helmets removed in the first game....

what are you talking about? the first one never forced you to remove it, dragon age did tho.

Anywho I`m alittle curious, about your companions in ME 2, do they have helmets at all?

Why didn´t they make it so, that the helmets get invisible (Like Jokers Helmet in the intro) or "open up" when a conversation starts?
So many possible solutions for this....

I just opted out of using the pre order armor because of this, which sucks, but I rather see my characters face.

I couldn't agree more, I love the Blood armor but had to stop using it because it just was right seeing him talk with someone with the silly helmet on.  I hope they patch it

Christina Norman claims that they cannot be changed, as someone who has modeled with the Unreal Engine in the past I say that's not true. It can be done but it will require work that they seem unwilling to do. Give us something here Bioware, give us places in-mission we can change the armor or do the work required. If you want people to purchase full price copies of your games in the future or lay out money for your DLC, this is NOT the kind of message you want to send to fans.

Easiest solution:  Combine the weapon locker and armor customization centers, put one at the beginning of every single area in the game.  This way on planets people could change out for text but change back into it when they are put into a mission on that planet.  Do something at all, please.

I haven't gotten very far yet but this was definitely one of the early game issues where I was like "that's kinda lame." I wouldn't be holding my breath though. I would be surprised if the issue is addressed before ME3.

It's a shame that you can't take the helmets off. I got tired of it when Shepard was drinking while wearing the helmet still. It's very immersion breaking. Plus you can't see the facial animations during conversations. This is why I have chosen to just use the N7 armor. Oh well at least I have the soundtrack.

I find the claim that they can't change it afterwards totally false. If a rogue designer on the art team had slipped in a piece of pornography as a joke or put an obscenity on a piece of the model, you can bet we would be getting a patch faster than you could ask for one. Can't be changed, suuuuure.

I was a little upset with this as well. I won't being using the DLC armors for the rest of my first playthrough. Despite this I am very happy with the end product.

I had all my pre-order armor and stuff, and when I saw this I was gutted, but at least I still got the Heavy weapon pre-order :)

Btw, how do you guys like..the new elements..such as no more armor for your squad mates (you can't change it) and you buy upgrades to the armor and not a whole set now.

I agree, the lack of the inventory option from the pause menu is a bit of a downside.

With that said... sorting through your inventory in ME1 all the time was annoying to do all the time but easy to work with.

As everyone else has mentioned already... the whole helmet thing is annoying.

I only got the standard edition for the 360 but even the N7 armour helmet is a bit much when it comes to wanting to see your characters face.

I was pretty upset when I first noticed it too. I've had to completely give up all three of my DLC armors and go with the basic helmetless option. It blows. Maybe they'll fix it, or someone will be able to mod it out on the PC.

If it is fixed, great.

If it is not, then I am not getting another BioWare game on launch day. The process of getting the downloadable content working took 4 hours yesterday, only to find out that I didn't want to use it anyway. Had I waited I would have found out that the Collectors Edition is not worth the money in my opinion due to that fact that you spend all this time customizing your character and you can only see their face, what, 50% of the time?

Alright... this pisses me. Big time.
Oh well, I'm just gonna fight without a helmet (real heroes don't get shot in the face B) :P) and stick with the awesome eyepiece as soon as I get it.

I wish, the first thing I looked at doing before posting here was how to change it myself.  The answer, not possible because they locked out basically every type of modding you could want to do.  I can't even enable the console.  About all I've been able to do is change a few keybindings.

If they won't do it, at least let us do it.

The funny thing is, one of your squadmates has a full helmet on when you meet him/her and you see that squadmate remove the helmet for the conversation. Posted Image

Looks like I'll be going without a helmet then, when I get the game. You can at least choose to play without any helmet at all, right? Providing you stick with in-game armour and not the pre-order bonuses? Okay, I'd lose out on a few stat points, but it'd be worth it to see the character's face.

Makes me glad I already cancelled the CE pre-order for other reasons, if I wouldn't even be using the Collector armour anyway.

Makes me feel a tiny bit sorry for the people who pre-ordered multiple copies of the game to get all the different bonus armours, only to find that they really don't want to use them now because it ruins the conversations and other interactions. $200 well spent there, I think not.

A cool solution and I think a fairly simple one would be to place armor stations in key areas during missions a little before main big dialog scenes occur. In that way we will always know ok this is the time to unequip the helmet, and then when the scene ends you could just re-equip it - or something to that effect. I haven't played the game yet (still waiting ;)) but I don't have a problem with this issue when it comes to side missions where there is not that much dialog, I assume, or when we go to 'neutral' places like the Citadel where you can just leave your helmet off.

The problem I have is during main key story missions - I mean you obviously want to wear a helmet during all the combat that's bound to take place, but having to miss out on your Shepards demeanour, facial expressions, attitude etc during the main story kinda sucks :(. Hence the above solution I guess...:?

Even that would be clunky as hell though. The best solution is simply linking the function that opens the armor customization to a main menu item. Not ideal but better than having to use "stations" littered all over the place. Some of the design decisions in this game just boggle the mind.
