Hazard maps were such a lame idea.

Biggest waste of space and dev time I ever seen. Really one of those "What was BioWare thinking?" Moments. Not only that, wonderful BioWare programming means we mostly play the original stages.

"Hey kids! This BioWare and have we got a surprise for you! How would you like to play the same 3 stages only with reduced visibility and new texture maps! Now whenever you on rare occasion want to play melee, the chances of landing on Giant Hazard is through the roof! Now you can run and run forever searching for enemies you can't see to melee! Think it's just that lone trooper and your safe to melee? Surprise! Your totally surrounded by Phantoms & Turrets! What will we at BioWare think of next?!"

Because the player base said they wanted darker maps. They could only make them so dark though because in some maps they tested as dark, they said the player had no chance.

OTOH all you have to do is go into settings and make it brighter..you can see better

I like them...apart from their annoying habit of showing up disproportionately often.

Except for the part where the reactor is more a trolling device than anything else. The doors can't even stop boss units.

Preatorian, "Oh noo you're trying to cook me alive! Whoops, I just float right back out!" :P

At least you got more grenades on some maps.

Hazard Giant is just a night version of the original with occasional flashes from the giant AA gun firing. Hazard Reactor turns the reactor close to the deployment point into an actual reactor that can cook whatever's inside when charged up.

They're a mixed bag. I don't like Firebase Giant in any form, I'm not especially fond of Firebase Ghost, and I'm beyond tired of getting Firebase White every three games.

Hazard Reactor is fun for trolling and Thunderdome makes the whole set of additions worth it.

Depends.

Dagger hazard and white hazard are just stupid in their design. The loss in visibility only affects the player and not the enemies. I don't enjoy such things where the enemies have a clear advantage - just artificial difficulty.

Reactor hazard is a stupid design too. Just modifying a tiny detail that has virtually no impact on the gameplay whatsoever (well, unless you decided to troll) is dull. Giant is another map where the impact of hazard is basically non-existent. I just increase the brightness of my monitor and giant hazard becomes giant (well, almost).

Glacier and ghost hazard are pretty cool designs. They are hazardous both to the player and the enemy. The only minute detail I dislike about ghost hazard is its screenshake while in the rain (but it's no big deal though). Well, there's another annoying thing abt Ghost hazard - turrets don't explode automatically in the rain, once the timers run out. But I am not going to blame it on the map because cerberus make everything sh*t.

Glacier hazard is one of my favorite maps in the game - just below white and vancouver.

One of my favorite games ever was the one on Hazard Giant, when I was playing a sniper along with a shockwave based adept, a krolord, and a flamer vorcha. Truly a memorable experience.

I'm almost sure that normal reactor can cook stuff too. I never press the button so I can't be sure.

Nope there's no button in the normal version.

The Hazard on Glacier is despicable, on a good day it simply turns a map where you have almost nowhere to go into a map where you have absolutely nowhere to go, and on a bad day it trolls the players constantly with invisibility and parking itself over objectives.

The Hazard on Reactor is awesome.

The rest can sometimes be annoying depending on the kit I'm using, but that's true of most of the maps, so really they're fine.

I still want a Hazard London where a reaper is shooting its beam down the street like in SP.

Giant Hazard has much more screen shake so it's an addtional annoyance for snipers

Hazard Glacier and Collectors, so hateful it's funny.

Mostly the hazard maps would fine if there was a larger pool of maps so they didn't pop up so often.

I wish there were a few much larger maps so you really had to roam to find enemies.

Sounds like what Bioware is attempting to do for the next Mass Effect. Sqaure miles of open terrain for free roaming.

I like them  :) I do wish they would play more with visibility on Dagger and White, especially while using Hunter Mode, Krogan Rage, Stim pack/Adrenaline Rush and such. You seriously get to the point you don´t see anything.

Hazard Dagger feels quite atmospheric to me, so I won´t complain. Not really fond of Ghost acid rain, but I like the new colors layout, so there is that. Same for Giant, really nice new colors there.

Hazard Glacier though.....I consider one big trolling attempt from BW.

That giant electrical ball of hazard was meant to be able to hurt your team as well as the enemies. But since the gold/plat enemy units are so tanky the ball ends up harming and hindering your team a lot more.
