Mimic tentatively awaiting in a shape of a tent - could we have that?

Continuing assorted projects at present, approximately none of which have anything to do with tents.

Given that by the time I've cut everything into Tile-sized pieces, there's really not a colossal amount of point to most of KotOR's exterior geometry and what interesting buildings there are I'll likely just turn into Placeables, I've packed in the idea of converting the exteriors excepting the Onderon City (see page 1) which I'm progressing with quite nicely as a mixture of KotOR II meshes and completely new PHoD geometry stapled to them.

So I'm concentrating on getting the Interiors done. Currently examining all the amassed masses of stuff I've already converted with an eye to amalgamating as far as possible and getting as much geometry into as few Tilesets as possible... Just discovered, for instance, that the swoop racing tracks can be hit with bricks, retextured and turned into quite useful tunnels - see below.

Tunnel.jpg

However, frustration abounds in the fact that apparently not one single piece of KotOR geometry has the same base ground height as any other piece of KotOR geometry.

Frustration abounds further, bounding fashion, in a sort of marsupially grotesque way like some blighted wallaby that's gone abnormal and should be in a special prison for evil marsupials, due to the fact that, since all the small bits of corridors and rooms and things are not used in KotoR for versatile Area building but simply for combining together into a single set groundplan of immense size. Thus they are all static in relative position to each other.

Which means that they can often be several kilometeres off centrepoint, which means you open an interesting looking model in gmax only to discover that there's nothing in sight 'cause the dirty Spleen's gone walkabout. Hunting around in the vast, arid, empty expanse of desolate greyness, you eventually locate an infinitesimally tiny dot which, upon zooming in to eight billion times magnification, proves to be the elusive piece of laboratory sitting thousands of light years away in a remote corner. Then you have to drag it - all three-hundred of its inefficiently unlinked meshes - all the way back to the middle in order to realign it, hit it with bricks and tape all its bits together - that's before you can even start making a Tile out of it - or in most cases, several Tiles.

Not to mention that the necessary walkmeshes are mostly the exact shapes of particularly, offensively ugly diseased pigs.

I occasionally question vehemently whether it's worth the hassle...

Y4Room.jpg

And there are so many other projects, so many other things to be hit with bricks...

I need approximately an extra 24 hours every day. Then I could make some progress.

Further to the recent sequence of posts on my ALIEN thread regarding the huge, dark, sprawling industrial complex of Facility 13, where Alien vs Demoness 2 takes place, here's a look at the first of the two "subsets" of the Facility 13 Placeables, minus all that tangled industrial stuff and blob-shaped reactors, etc.

Because tangled industrial blobs are well known to look a bit silly in gleaming, shiny silver.

Colony1a.jpg

A Toolset image of a small colony constructed in precisely two minutes by the simple miracle of "PHoD Handy Colony Building Set Mk1". Obviously this is just the basic colony layout without assorted Placeable crates, vehicles, dirt, etc and without any inhabitants. Naturally you'll need to install some colonists so that the huge, rubbery Spleen Monsters have something to eat when they inevitably attack.

This colony layout just happens to be what I threw together on a whim, for demonstration purposes. The point of these Placeables is to be able to make any layout you want, from a couple of labs up to a whole township, very quickly and easily.

Yes, I know, the silver isn't VERY shiny and gleaming, but by comparison to Facility 13, these buildings are pristine...

Colony1b.jpg

These are a few shots of that same basic compound from the above post, this time in-game; still just the actual Colony Building Set parts without any additional Placeables or Creatures to "bring it to life".

Colony1c.jpg

I nailed this one to a desert, but obviously the whole point of these is to allow you to erect such colonies anywhere you want, jungles, tundra, plains, mountains, even underwater... though what the point of those perimeter walls would be underwater I have no idea...

Colony1d.jpg

Just ignore any and all dents in the buildings. Brick marks. Unavoidable side-effect of manufacture.

And the other subset... Same stuff, just different textures. This one's supposed to look potentially menacing. The sort of colony Obvious Evilists lurk in...

Colony2a.jpg

Toolset image... A rather more symmetrical and disciplined layout than the previous example.

In-game...

See, I told you it was a blatant Evilist Fortress. It's crawling with Daleks.

Colony2b.jpg

Having got all the new Facility 13 stuff done for AvD2 now, plus these subsets, it just remains for me to heave some of the older stuff (already seen on the Doctor Who thread and elsewhere) into the big sack and then it can be thrown heavily at the Vault as a resource for ridiculously whopping futuristic buildings and things. Then I can get back to more eldritch, ancient whassnames...

Um... Not necessarily futuristic, per se, but the textures suggest precision-cast metalwork so maybe...

Anyway, short of starting the CWP - Community Weirdo Project - I might just as well stuff my ludicrous rubbish into any big box with an even halfway related label...

My Placeables 2da calls this the "Lumpotron", but that's just pathological lunacy on my part. It's just your average huge, weird, metal blob with bits on. I don't know; somebody might find a use for it - yes, I am thinking of you, Angel!

Lumpotron1.jpg

Also, the Lumpotron comes complete with a small set of official Lumpotronic Extras - such as this stupidly angular and lumpy Metal Sphinx... or possibly concrete... Whatever, it doesn't look ancient so it's going in the big box of allegedly futuristic stuff.

Lumpotron2.jpg

There are also Lumpotronic Pillary Things and Lumpotronic... er... sort of... um... kind of abstract metal shape things... You know, weird stuff.

Damn. I really need to start writing these posts out three days in advance and making sure I know what the hell I'm talking about.

A hundred? Damn - I only thought of ninety-nine...

I suppose I could also use the main dome as an Unfeasibly Massive Cyborg Cactus...

Anyway - here are just a few of the KotOR spacecraft I converted a while back. As far as I know they've not been available in NWN before 'cause they don't exist as separate models but are fixed parts of the world geometry. But I hit them with bricks and cut them out along the dotted lines and so now they're NWN Placeables and are also going in the big box...

Two questions.

  1. Are you sure you've got a box big enough? :)
  2. Are you going to add those interesting skyboxes as well or have you previously released them?

Tarot:- 1, I've got Ultimate Epic Boxes, have no fear... 2, there will be a PHoD Weirdo Skybox Collection relatively soon in another big box.

But, as with my KotOR craft above, not to mention all the ALIEN stuff, it seems pretty much every spaceship previously available for NWN has been heaved out of some other game by somebody... But now, suddenly, horrifyingly, the Shabby Hyena Loony builds new spaceships unrelated to films and appearing only in NWN! Further to examples seen on the Doctor Who thread, here, for instance, is a nice sensible spaceship...

PHoDfreighter.jpg

This is a deep space freighter I built for my KYRU series. (It's a lot bigger than it looks - Velpa is actually standing on a big, snowy hill in the foreground, which you can't really tell). Note how it looks more or less feasible and not at all silly.

But here, on the other hand, are some not at all sensible spaceships...

PHoDufos.jpg

Yes! Classic Unrealistic 1950s style Flying Saucers are now available for NWN! Note how I have skilfully made these models so rubbish you can almost see the wires holding them up! Almost as Utterly Pants as Plan 9 From Outer Space, these daft UFOs come complete with a guarantee of Ultimate Rubbishism... I mean, I suppose you could try using them sensibly but, somehow I have this eerie suspicion that they'll just remain clinically ridiculous, no matter what... At least, nobody's going to take them seriously after that screenshot anyway.

This might inspire me to whip up one of my many, many side-projects I need to get started on...

I don't know PHoD, can your demoness in the French Maid outfit scream like the women did in scifi up until the 70s?  You know, that piercing, hands on the side of her face, eyes wide, trembling shriek of pure movie terror?

@PHoD I love 'em. A couple (all right 3 then) of little thoughts. The top space ship does indeed look new but the globular part bears an uncanny resemblance to globular part of the discovery from "2001:A Space Odyssey". Love the faux poster but nevermind Plan 9 ( voted worst movie evva), the poster itself reminds me of Ray Harryhausen's "Earth vs. The Flying Saucer's" even though there are marked differences between your and his flying saucers. Oh and I did catch the anachronism in that picture hay, hay (hint, hint).

@CaveGnome I've got a load of spacecraft/sci-fi stuff in 3ds format that I haven't got around to converting. PM me if you want to try and I'll make a big lumpy parcel  (I haven't got the resources that PHoD has) for you.

@3RavensMore They still do that on some tv shows, it's just that now the boys join in as well (GAC anyone?).

I watch no television at all and haven't for twenty years or more, so I wouldn't know... But my girls definitely wouldn't do anything so rubbish as bulge their eyes like plates and scream (presumably to ensure they're noticed by whatever rubbery horror is startling them with its unrealistic appearance). And as KlatchainCoffee noted, many are the men, and indeed huge monsters, that have fled hooting in terror from Lucirath - with good reason.

Anyway, hoped to have this big box on the Vault today, but having dug out all the old stuff and examined it, I find that it's all completely rubbish. Well, maybe not completely, but I had pants all idea what I was doing when I made them for the KYRU series a few years back and there are some dodgy meshes, diseased texturing and the walkmeshes are crappy and so forth. So I'm updating them, polishing them, improving them, augmenting them and generally applying a very large brick to them with psychotic glee. So the old stuff will all be new stuff too. Shouldn't take more than a day's hitting with bricks... I don't want to put a heap of total dribble on the Vault; there's plenty of that in my prehistoric subs dragged over from the Old Vault.

You can amuse yourselves in the meantime with all the images here, on the ALIEN and Doctor Who threads... and there may be images of some of the stuff on the thread I put over in the Knights of the Old Republic section of this site, called "KotOR III Can/Does Exist" or something like that. Can't remember what images I put on that now, might all have been interiors. Not sure.

Anyway - speaking of KotOR, a while back I accidentally converted some of the robots in the KotOR games to NWN Creature Models, so they can go in the big box too.

There's far more work involved than I thought in improving some of the older stuff and testing all the new walkmeshes, etc. But the improvements are very definitely worthwhile, so I'd rather delay putting the Hak on the Vault for two or three days and thus provide a much better (and bigger) resource.

DomeA.jpg

Will only be a few days at most, and it'll be worth it, honestly. Also adding several more new things as ideas have oozed out of dark recesses of my mind and pounced upon me like a big bag of toads.

(Found the Predator ship I converted from AvP2, so that's gone in the big box also.)

Predator.jpg

(Yes, I do also have Predator Creature models, four different ones at the moment, finished except for getting the danglymesh on the dreadlocks right - Vaguely musing over the idea of DEMONESS vs ALIEN vs PREDATOR which might be fun, but probably a bit silly. If anyone wants the Predator(s), I can put them on the Vault some time - when I get round to fixing their dreads).

Might be a bit silly, but I would like to see some of the Predator outfits made into clothing. A necklace of small skulls, wiremesh man-suit, assymetric shoulders.
