Build I use.  DR on 990 shields is plenty enough to make you tanky, you can pull-Reave most mooks and they will die to DoT from the Reave about a second after the BE, and you have the Reave-Bubble-Reave combo for bosses.

What's so special about Venom (I don't have it yet)?

It's a powerful shotgun that can staggerlock enemies like the Scorpion and Falcon, but since it is does more damage than either of those, is one of the best weapons in the entire game.

I don't use it because mine is still very low level (at II, I think?) but when used on kits that have biotic primer powers (Dark Channel, Warp, Reave) it shines with warp ammo.

It's venom. That's its specialty.

It works with every single character and doesn't weight a lot. Great at applying ammo powers, quick reload, charged shots have good AoE and damage, staggers locks enemies, etc.

This shows the greatness of venom:

Just noticed that she burned a thermal clip pack to get that killstreak.

Not that their's anything wrong with that.

It's a killstreak. My point is that the other weapons can't get a killstreak on gold with just the weapon.

I've seen a javelin killstreak but that was with the pyro's tank exploding, not the weapon itself.

My point was purely observational. I've seen that gif dozens of times but never noticed that before. I don't disagree that it's one of the only guns that can do that on it's own.

Having said that, it's a slightly more likely event than playing a game with 1212A102 or whatever his name is.

Actually it's just how the gif loops, the 37/4 is the last frame. You can see after she reloads she is at the bottom of the short stairwell, she starts at the top.

I only point this out because I am bored at work and have been watching that loop for upwards of fifteen minutes.

I haven't played recharge speed build yet, but I have tried offensive Justicar yesterday and tomorrow morning (6 or 7 games total) - all Gold.

The first 3 or 4 games were a disaster, I couldn't get a solid team. We barely extracted once; one game ended as early as wave 3. I was dying all the time.

I was using Cyclonics III, buy the way. Didn't help much at all.

Tomorrow morning, though, was a totally different thing: I've ended up in a lobby with some very decent players. Our main carry was a melee-focused Krogan Shaman. Not only did he kill everything very fast, but he was also spamming Warp - and since I was spamming Reave, there was no shortage of BEs. The other 2 guys also built up decent scores, I just can't remember what they were doing - probably just shooting. We were killing everything so fast, I barely got downed 3 times in 2 games. The final score was 100k for Krogan, 70-something for me, around 60k for the other 2 guys. 75 kills medal, 50 assists medal, 50 biotic kills medal, 25 AR kills medal (although I'm sure at least half my damage came from Lancer). By the way, I was using Shield Power Cells instead of Cyclonic, and still didn't feel squishy - unlike the first try. Simply because incoming damage was much less.

Is there any advice you can give me to die less in a team that's not utterly failing, but isn't powerful enough to steamroll the enemies either?

One impression: I rarely got to use the offensive bubble. I tried my best to stay away from the enemy, let the tougher teammates tank them. Spam Reave on big things, shoot them with warp ammo. However, when things did get hairy in the late waves (like 2 Banshees + 2 Brutes in very close proximity from us), I think the bubble helped a lot - both with damage amplification debuff and with biotic explosions.

Bottom line of my Justicar experience so far: decent damage potential, can pull her own weight and then some, but VERY squishy and VERY team-reliant.

Now I want to try the shield recharge build (almost fully defensive, except I'll still take the offensive bubble evolution 6a) and the melee build.

The ironic thing is you thinking the Krogan is the tank. The Justicar is the toughest biotic in this game. Also I would run Geth Scanner to help you utilize the bubble more effectively. You can get it set up sooner, etc  with incoming enemies, probably will help a lot with the survivability also, the debuff it creates and the priming effect will probably be far more effective than that AR amp.

I have 40% damage reduction from Reave (that I have almost always), and 20% from bubble (that I almost never have). And I think on Gold you need much more (at least twice more) than 990 shield to feel any effect of DR.

Also, Geth and Cerberus have lots of shielded enemies, and Reave doesn't work on shields, so fighting Geth was especially tough.

My Geth Scanner is only lvl 1, that's 10 m radius. That doesn't seem as useful as 20 m on lvl 5.

Set the bubble down in a choke point as you move around the map and reave whatever walks into it. There's some extra debuff and boom boom for you which will both increase damage output and survivability (they can't kill you if you're they're dead). She does take some time to get used to playing but she really is quite good.

Also 10m on Geth Scanner is plenty to see around corners, which is where it helps when you need to lay a bubble down. It really boosts your ability to stay alive. Try it, it really does help.

While your statement is correct, I'm pretty sure you meant "they can't kill me if they are dead". Or did you? :)

Thanks for the advice. Setting the bubble in a chokepoint ahead of me, rather than waiting for things to go wrong and the enemies to get close to me, is something very simple and yet it didn't cross my mind yet.

Yup, you're right. Words are hard for me.  :D  Also don't forget you can detonate with the bubble as well. So just as an example you see an enemy coming towards you. You can reave it, back around a corner, use geth scanner so you can drop the bubble as they come around the corner and you get a biotic explosion. Also any other enemy that comes around that corner gets primed so all you have to do is reave and shoot. Then back up to another corner and repeat. Very safe and very deadly.  Also lifting an unprotected enemy in the middle of a group and reaving it is really good CC.

Bubble has one of the highest forces upon deployment in the game. It can stagger an Atlas even so generally upon deployment it will stagger anything close. It's a nice "Oh ****" button.

I have yet to master Pull (which seems a very weak ability and waste of cooldown because of how limited it is), and I'm not a fan of non 5/5 specialization/fitness builds either...

The bubble cast animation is so long, though.

You would find it and an acolyte very useful versus phantom and geth. Problem is your weapons are low level so your CDs are going to suffer if you carry the acolyte and lancer.

If I'm messing around with a new kit and the team is not strong enough or they pull together soon, I go down with the ship.

Been doing this recently just trying kits I don't play enough and just trying to get a feel for them and how to push them best. Ie. Fury. Been playing this a bit yesterday. But if I get something like Geth London or Condor. And team isn't strong enough, I'd run out of consumables zip fast then have to rely on playing more carefully/cowardly and hoping the team pulls it together in time. So in essence me being handicapped and the team being handicapped = teamwork. lol. It's really fun trying different things & making magic with the Gold pugs. So don't give up. It's what keeps us playing a lot, versus ... er, not playing?

He should also be aware of enemy agro. Say if you are out of sight of all enemies and all you teammates are still alive and not tac-cloak spamming winfiltrator. Just come around a corner and dive right into any mess, but open with a reave toward one of them, then run up and bubble for a biotic boom stager on that reaved enemy, and finally run behind soft cover (if needed) to take care of the rest with reave detonating anyone left in the bubble.

The thing you need to know about enemy agro is that once an enemy has a lock on you, it will take like 3 second until he starts firing. Once that happens, nothing but cover will save you until you get out of firing range. So especially keep this in mind while playing her.

What?! That's my ME3mp lifeline, lol. Don't worry, once you get more good, you'll see it this way for Gold or only stick to playing Platinum.

If you on X-Box or PS3 (underscore instead of space), add me and I'll show you that pugging with these pugs works & is a lot of fun.
